  1. But you're arguing that you want more historical accuracy, when in fact most captians of the era WERE what you would call a ganker! :D

They patroled up and down areas given to them by the Admiralty and sought to raid traders who couldnt shoot back and try to capture enemy warships they thought they could take on. If they saw something bigger than what they thought they could handle, they turned tail and got out of there.

Yes but at the end of a day it's a game which is meant to be fun, the goal should be pvp where the player has to gain the advantage not have it handed to you. Port defense battles = smart strategy run from attackers until time limit is over, at 5 minutes you can run outside circle because it still counts your BR and it wont sink you before end of round. At least make it stop counting BR when outside the circle. Certainly the shoot sails and run strategy is valid but it's terribly boring and not fun for anyone involved.

As i said before - missions only enemies can enter which makes it easier for enemies such as trincos that like to attack midshipmen in PR jump into and gank and then run and get into another one evading any security fleet.

2 minute timers well I've covered that enough. Ganking is certainly a viable strat, but the ganking needs to come from being smarter/better not because the game hands you every opportunity while punishing you for going for equal pvp. Believe me I firmly believe if you're fighting fair you're fighting wrong in the real world but when it comes to a game and no lives are on the line I want good solid pvp that is fun. Not for it to be a chore.

  2. Have you tried attacking and boarding a player and capturing it in under 5 minutes? Its exceptionally hard, they dont make the same stupid mistakes AI do.

Capping a player in under 5 minutes would require an exceptionally stupid opponent.

You want more historical accuracy, yet you propose that someone under attack should be able to recieve backup from ports, which in real life, would be days away.

The timer is a stand in for the fact that the map isnt realistically large, it only takes real life hours to sail from one side to the other, when in reality it would take days.

of which there are plenty. means one should chose better engagements and go for better tags instead of oh look i have a fast reno/trinco and will just run almost anyone down. At this point the game is designed purely around ganking and not actual pvp. Case in point Missions: only enemies can enter. Shortened timers - takes over 2 minutes to sail any fucking where so again, advantage to gankers. Well intentioned poorly thought through and terribly implemented mechanics that do nothing for individuals who want to pvp but do plenty for the troll who wants to gank noobs, be able to run from equal fights.

  3. Long timer was discouraging small scalle PvP and commerce raiding, as the guy you attacked could just call in reinforcements from quite a distance away and still have them able to get to the fight.

The oceans are supposed to be big.

Yes, of course, because its far easier to put down 5 production buildings in the same port and only have to come to them to collect once every couple of days, as opposed to the endless running about and contract management you need to do as a crafter.

I maintain my stance. It doesnt fit into the game.  guy looking for small engagements has time to finish the small pvp/commerce raiding before help arrives, if he doesnt then he faces the punishment for getting outplayed/a bad tag/whatever. It's a terrible idea that's almost but not quite as bad as allowing a trincomalee to jump into a midshipman mission letting the trinco escape his level pvp to gank a noob. Does. not. belong. in. game. You think pirates looked to fight a british line fleet? no they did line commerce raiding and if they had a patrol stumble upon them they ran or got hung. I thought the game strived for some resemblance of realism and good gameplay, the timer and mission system both are unrealistic and terrible game play.

Short timer just enourages ganking, not good pvp, not good gameplay, it encourages all the little scrublords in trincos who go around ganking low levels all day and run when they face an equal fight. Just like PB's used to and possibly still do encourage the defender to run with his tail tucked until the battle is over.

  4. I hate to be that guy...but:

    • Battle entry timers reduced to 2 minutes. This is a very important change - you will be able to pick the place of attack better and if you don't see enemy sails on the horizon you will be safer

For the love of god why, people already borderline exploit the timer. I dont particularly care about PVE although its going to suck if your group is split up but the timer needs to be removed completely in pvp battles it has no place in the game. Imagine sailing across the open sea hearing cannons and right when you arrive to assist your fleet some invisible walls stops nelson in his tracks saying battle closed. -.-

    Other then that looks brilliant.

  5. Uh... based on what?

Leave your slanderous bullshit out of the thread, unless you have something to back it up.

Maybe I'm 'convinced' that it was a British player trolling his own faction because he was snubbed by the PB organizers. That's 100% as valid as your baseless accusation.

uhm a) midshipman wouldnt be able to come into the pb, and B) we always let anyone who wants help in screening fleets

Common sense seems challenging for some people though.

  6. Because, honestly, what is the point of the circle if you just time yourself to run through it and continue avoiding an engagement? Once back in the circle your br should can count again and if you dont make it back in your ship sinks. IF a port battle ends any ship outside of the circle should be automatically captured and given to the victor.

  7. Remember people.  this is not the gospel!  it looks like their goal is Thursday or Friday.  doesn't mean it WILL be here then.  i'm sure if things don't work out it could get delayed till the next week.  but lets hope this all goes well.

This, if the current build has bugs on the internal test then they'll have to address those which could push it back.

  8. Are you starting to feel the heat Charles?

Today we proved that not even ports next to the British Capitol is safe! It was a close call in Port Morant, and as usual the British fled enough for our ships being forced to return by our creators.

But as we speak, more recruits are getting graduated from the naval acadamy in Norway! So be prepaired, this was only the first attack, and not the last!

    Norwegian Naval graduates.

Rus's response learning they would have to fight their way out of morant after failing to capture it:

  9. Russia had a bigger fleet than Spain during the age. If that is not a reason for them to represented i don't know what is? :)

In the Caribbean? Pretty sure they were all in the baltic.

Why not the ottomans then? -.- TBH I have no idea why the Swedes - who had one island and no major presence in the carribean or any action in the carribean, are a faction. But then again Bensalem is a fictitious town so the whole historical argument is out the window. The game has to many factions as in, imo.

  10. How can you surrender after a fight is over? -.- Seems like an exploit to me and definitely not in the spirit of the game. I bring it up because we had a screen force fight danes after a port battle then we retreated for the heavier fleet outside to get into position to capture their pavels, however they apparently surrendered two third rates after we all escaped for their pavels to capture and return home.

  11. At 5am in the morning?

I don't blame for not bringing up yesterday's massacre at Sigunea...

Same defense at la bermeja, arenas, baxo nuevo, triangles, arcas, alacranes pre negations? How about Chiriqui, Almirante, Talamanca, Mantina, San Juan del Norte, Sanot Tomas, Omoa Truinfa de la Cruz, Morro Chico, Truxillo, Black River, Placentia, Belize, How about the defense (or lack there of of Cuba?) No it might be easier to tell me what Spain led by REA has actually defended?

And is it our fault those two had no timers on them? Or is it that the Spanish just have no defense other then the timer argument?

Congrats on defending a shallow water port, once.

  12. Myself, Papa Bear, are your two fluent English speakers in the Spanish faction that represent the clans of RACC, RAE and EI for the moment, our three clans are the largest body of clans in the entire faction.  You can confirm this by simply coming into our Teamspeak and asking the leaders of each of these clans, or you can make the same mistake twice and take one person on their word that they are the sole voice of the faction.

I doubt at this point anyone is dumb enough to try diplomacy with RAE, even the pirates have more integrity. Not to mention RAE has consistently worked to undermine the Spanish nation to have the dev's step in.

  13. May I ask you a question ? Right now what will prevent British Navy from capturing all ports, last time i checked the world map, british still have the largest number of port from all nations.

Sorry my bad i forgot i already know the answer, the pirate did that, and you want to change the game mechanics to prevent pirate from fighting british in the world map conquest.

Uhm I could care less about the pirates fighting the british, or the british fight the french, what I'm pointing out is a serious flaw in the game. If it will get your pantaloons unbunched and help get the sand out of your whiny parts replace Pirate with british, or french, or whatever faction you so choose. Quite simply however pirates are just another faction and shouldn't be.

  14. I have a 30 ping on the US servers. My ping on Europe is 100. I choose to play on the Europe server. I'd love to see a single server however there is a threshold where ping does start to matter. While I support it in theory I am not sure its practical.

Mines 180, it's higher for the aussies playing on it, so unless you're in a 3rd world nation playing off a potato it doesn't.

  15. If you look closely, the article is of a non clan British Cpt.

The Slightly negative feel to the document is probably due to the fact, SPAIN is breaking it peace pacts with Britain.

That is why its not listed. Because they are at war with themselves. Half of EL against RAE and RACC.

Also, many people are talking about Server PvP EU 1.

The focus is not the development but lets play the game like EVE and wipe the map.

So lets look at the Russians.....

The Russian factions of the Pirates/Danes and little Ally Dutch.

Look how their do diplomacy/treaties with the French and Swedish; how did that go?

    The US

Wiped out a small french group in the Gulf, the pushed Spain from their Capital and Cuba.

    The Britts,

Holding the center of map and creating narrow fronts for opportunity for new players to grind and old Trafalgar  to PvP and PB.

The SUMMARY is that while the game has no in game Alliance system, or a safety for Nations still having a Safety Area Number of Ports eg 5 around the Capital.

The Big thing we can do out side of the game DEVELOPERS is have the community remember it is an EARLY ACCESS GAME.

Help the game develop, not get your EGO fluffed by having the whole map conquered.

To expand on this one step further, it highlights a reason there needs to be a change to pirate mechanics (and I don't mean keeping them out of 1st rate ships, I don't care about that) as of right now there is nothing preventing the entire player base from going pirate and capturing all ports and fighting each other for fun outside of whatever national allegiance a player itself has.

Also I guess if someone violates a treaty, multiple times in one day, you should just let it slide. (I think someone has spent to much time studying the Obama style of foreign policy)

  16. Sounds like having dual servers was a bad idea, seeing how ping isnt that big of of a deal, there should be little debate here. When has having too many people been a bad idea?

Well like most games these days that get covered by "big" name twitch streamers and youtubers at release it will see a massive explosion in population, then as soon as they move on a lot of their followers move on as well. It would be nice for an increase in server pop limit and a merger now though. Even at this point I feel there's a lot of british population that doesn't realize you can do anything besides missions right outside port royal.

  17. Lol, written as only a Brit could write. In other words any of you rapscallions that try to change the current order of things, Brits 100 + Ports, everyone else way less than that, will not be allowed and all nations will hit those rapscallions that dare to try. Seriously if you cannot see what is wrong with this entire "treaty" then you need some help.

What you really wanted to say was "We the Brits don't want any other nation to challenge our dominant position in the Caribbean, so please sign this treaty and get back to killing just each other, leave us alone as we are busy with knitting, basket weaving and reading the King James Bible"

BTW that one nation being far too dominant already occurs, but I guess other nations now will try to change that, good luck holding onto your ports,

Why oh why do you attack the Spanish again, talk about beating up on the small chap. (Tampico)

Spain violated its treaty. It lost ports. We even gave them a freeby earlier when they "mistakenly"  attacked Corrientes and said ok mistakes happen no big deal. Then it was violated again not long after. The only reason spain is in the situation it is in, is because of REA and the Spanish players, not because of timers or other mechanics. Spain has constantly chosen to dig itself into a hole and then cry broken mechanics in the hopes the devs will alter the game to suit the vocal minority and cover their poor decision making and playing ability.

  18. Decisively beaten? You captured unopposed ports, pass the hemp you're smoking saying you've decisively beaten anything. As for the treaty you can take it and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Thanks for sending out a wake up call to the 90% of britain who sits in port royal playing the market perhaps now that they see some risk to their investments they'll set foot on ship and sail.

  19. Who said anything about port defense?

And yet u're wrong. It's very messy with this instance system when 1 player can get 10+ ships BEFORE PB into battle just to distract them from PB - it's not realistic. Was it so in reality that 1 fregate could make 10 line ships being out of PB?

One frigate can't attack 10 line ships, the BR is to high...and I guess it's absolutely impossible to plan for a screening force and how to break through...lol.
