  1. I have http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-965-vs-Intel-Core-i5-3230M/606vs2772 (+10% more power) and it runs at 40%-60%. I think I am bottlenecked by AMD 7850 http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GeForce-GT-740M-vs-AMD-HD-7850/m7671vs2182which is 300% more powerful then yours. I will tweak the settings for a battle to minimum and will tell you the fps. Low Open world - 45 Battle 2 ships - 45 Ultra Open world - 25 Battle 2 ships - 40 Resolution 1680x1080 full screen. CPU 40-60% both scenarios. So in the end it might be that the CPU is my problem and the game is not very optimized to use it properly. It uses all cores.
  2. If you added it to your steam account it will be with it forever.
  3. Yeah, i agree on emphasizing the English on teamspeak. And i like the name, didn't even notice we have this now and i am in clan for 3 days lol. It is on so few places ...
  4. @Landsmen: You can only turn into pirate now. No changing of nations. But I guess it would change. Only one account now. That might change too. !End of serious info! So i suggest to go with Denmark, we are better ;-)
  5. Maybe you could adjust the name of the thread so it is obvious what it is about. "Fix this little problem." is too general. I like the idea.
  6. I created guide on how to navigate http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8678-how-to-navigate-the-open-seas/
  7. I created guide on how to navigate http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8678-how-to-navigate-the-open-seas/
  8. I created guide so that you can learn how to navigate open world faster http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8678-how-to-navigate-the-open-seas/
  9. Navigation in open world seems to be a challenge for new players and few of them are complaining about it. For me it is a part of game play that i enjoy and find very unique. So i decided to compose this guide for everybody so that they can enjoy the navigation as i do (hopefully). The situation is clear. There is no pointer in the game that would tell you your position and it can be hard for somebody to navigate. 1) Attitude I think most important is how do you approach the fact there is no pointer in map and travel is not super easy. a) It is a challenge, it is not so hard and you will learn how to do it. Difficult things make games fun and learning new things is fun. And this is not so difficult, there are no currents, the wind has constant speed etc. Getting from point A to point B it is an achievement. Be proud of yourself. You are sailor now. Not some kid playing MMO with **** arrow on ground navigating to another quest. You are better. c) Navigation for historical sailors was important and it wasn't without problems. It is immersive. You can feel like real sailor. d) Enjoy that you get lost. It is an adventure. You will get into unpredictable situations. It is fun. It is experience. It is unique. You will have stories to tell. Once i wanted to travel to Philipsburg but I ended in from of Gustavia, the capital of Swedes, our enemies. They attacked me before i could even approach the port to see its name. I was faster and i managed to escape. Then they attacked me when i wanted to get away. Four ships against my noob cutter. I realized i am not in the trading whip i wanted anyway and i wasted 10 minutes of sailing (lol moment) so i gave them their battle. I damaged two of them very hard and scored 2x my hp of damage before they sunk me. Got very nice xp afterwards. I would never experience it with GPS navigation. 2) How to do it a) Keep attention to your surroundings. Always compare what you see with the map and always try to determine your current position. Try to guess the isle you can see by the looks of the shoreline. The map is accurate and represents it correctly. Also you will look at Caribbean. It is beautiful. There are navigation points on map everywhere - ports on every mile of the coast. When you see a city name, you know exactly where on map you are. c) When leaving port, look at map and decide where you want to go. Look at the direction (north, west etc.) and plan your path. You should always see navigation points, shore and ports on your way. d) There is a compass and it is your best friend. Use it. e) Before entering battle, remember your position and also how the shores around you look etc. It will come handy when you go out of battle and feel disoriented. f) Don't go to open see unless you feel really comfortable with navigation. g) When you need to go west for example and the wind blows in opposite direction, go NW and then switch to SW for the same time period. This way you don't deviate from general west direction. h) Print a map of Caribbean or the are you sail in and put it on your desk. You can make notes on it etc. Maybe I will put the map here in future or some helpful developer share it with us... I am a bit tired after week of work, also English is not my mother language so pleas feel free to point out any misspelling, factual error or bring your ideas, you are welcomed. Also if you make/made guide for new players and find information in this one helpful, please link it in your guide or feel free to copy the text. The downside of copying text is that you wont have updates if i make them. Edit: Changed "sees" to "seas" in topic :-D
  10. Just an idea (without any puns :- D ). I am considering printing the map and adding notes to it etc. And sailing with it with see on my screen. Immersion +100% :-)
  11. @Valgard: I know i can have ships in other outposts. The problem for me is that I will have weeks when I cannot play (not even log in) because of my job. If ownership of the normal port changes, I will lose access to them. I play for small nation so in case GB decides to completely decimate us, they will probably do so by their numbers. Any non capital port is unsafe for me. @AKD: economy will flourish more if I can buy more ship then I manage to lose in pvp, so it is pointless argument. @maturin: I think there is no need to punish players who like to collect ships. Only result would be that fewer people will play NA. For example I would like to keep the cutter I won my first pvp with. It is a small thing but it can keep people attached to the game. Maybe some mechanism like stasis with cooldown and very small fee would work. I can imagine that it could be potentially exploited. That's why I suggest removing the limit for capital only or limiting only SOLs.
  12. No GPS on my sailboat when it is year 1800. With navigation you don't need to pay attention to your surrounding or know the map. You just follow a dot. Watch tennis if you want to do that.
  13. I hope there will never be position on map. It would be as driving with car GPS navigation. Efficient? Yes. Fun? No, you don't look around, you just watch the small display. You don't know the cities you are passing. You never get lost. Boring. Historical.
  14. Not a bad idea but very low priority for me. There are more important things that need development time.
  15. I would like to store more ships in capital. With the introduction of special ships, my dock will be soon full. Or the limit of 5 can be only for SOL if capturing ports is a concern. (I didn't find the real reason for limiting the number to five per city.)
  16. Niels Terkildsen i suggest we advertise we are clan 100% using English for teamspeak and everywhere else. People are afraid they wont understand so they join GB or USA. They are most populated nations. Also advertising other nationalities that we have.
  17. When I bought this game I wanted to play for Denmark even though I didn't have any reason. Today at work i realized... The best rum i had in my life (and rum is my favorite beverage). Two years ago... Danish Navy is the best :-D
  18. Just slap a picture on the background, it should be rather easy.
  19. Did you try reinstalling the game?
  20. One character per server. That option is not available...
  21. Please make it quick, you force me to play WoWs :-) Now seriously... I wish you that everything goes smoothly and people buy this game on steam like mad :-)
  22. I don't like the fact that ships have fixed name after some single historical ship. In the end everybody plays in the same ship with same name etc. I would prefer generic class name and the ability to name my ship. For example instead of HMS Surprise we would get Leda class frigate - Viking When playing for Denmark, i don't want to sail HMS ship. It breaks immersion. Also skins/painting/colors of ships should be available. So for example if i sail in fleet, we can have the same colors all. P.S. If the developers are afraid of profanity, there can exist accepted vocabulary with polite words only. Or even better, only pirates would be allowed to use profanity in ship names :-)
  23. Also in storms some ships would be forced to close their lower deck. Like it was in history.
  24. I suggest using ancient style map. It shouldn't be too difficult to add and it would add tons of immersion. Something like this:
  25. @Puchu: Well this topic is about how to tweak the game, not only how it works now. Also not sure about your ranking, if you have really bad player who is unable to hit anything, it doesn't matter if he has good modules or ship. (I know such a people.) We must not forget that about what people are playing NA now. They are early adopters and simulation fans. It is a very different breed that will eventually play the game after it is released. Now we have only good players and excellent players. The bad players are casuals who will come after the game is released and gains some popularity. So the difference between people skill in pre-alpha is smaller then it will be in released game. Also, bigger ship = more battles and probably better skill. ---------------------- Lets think about the idea of skill: There is some optimal way how to do things and then you can screw it up to a certain degree. Skill is how much can you do it in optimal way. So in order to make bigger differences in outcome. the mechanics must be more difficult or the situation is more complex with more mechanics. So we can increase the difference of outcome by making the game more complex and mechanics harder to execute. As the effects of mechanics multiply, the more mechanics there is the bigger difference. Pre battle -crew skills/experience -commander specialization -superior munition that has to be loaded pre battle and cost currency (we already have) -crew numbers -modules -ship/player number -ship type In general i like sidegrades rather then upgrades. For example two different approaches to this in League of Legends and World of Tanks. 1) WoT - you grind to get the upgrades. Vehicle with upgrades is superior in every aspect to the one without them. More hp, more dps, faster. 2) LoL - you fill mastery tree with sidegrades. You might get survivability but but you cannot get more dps or speed at the same time. BETTER in my opinion. Runes are sidegrades too. Sidegrades allow players to exploit inherent strong characteristics of a ship and build their playstayle around them. They bring fun and variety to the game. So for example maybe we could have rounds that would fly further or rounds that would have less spread, but not both at the same time. 2) in battle macro (we already have:) -orientation in fight, positional awareness -movement (Slower acceleration could punish mistakes more. Proper manual controls for fore-and-afters. Remove zero speed turning.) -ship coordination -destinguish between friend and foe. (Remove names above ships. Or at least remove colors from minimap.) Ships could be distinguished only by flags, not name or colors. Flags signals and their usage. We can elaborate more on how to do this. (Extreme example is when player would use the flag of enemy. His friends of coordinated group would know that his ship is with them by the signals he would use, but it would confuse disorganized enemy. Not sure if this is a good idea :-) ) - Make ramming less rewarding (requires little skill.) 3) in battle micro -micromanagement of repairs -more precise crew assignment (we already have:) -shooting (timing, gun elevation, waves, distances+elevation, ammo types) Maybe we could aim from the view of one cannon (gun port). -be able to destroy the masts -bigger effect of low crew Edit 11:23 + Proper manual controls for fore-and-afters. Remove zero speed turning. Make ramming less rewarding. Edit 11:29 + be able to destroy the masts, bigger effect of low crew.
