  1. Sorry for the late response! You simply have to contact me on the forum, I'll give you all the information you need. Anyone is welcome to join, it just make make some things more difficult, but there are certainly ways around it. Ideally we'd have groups in every nation.
  2. I want to agree, because for a game it's awesome. Although, it is a very good point it's not very historical... I'm really torn. The sad reality is you have to choose between being true to the simulation, or making it a more enjoyable and healthy game. I give it a solid I'm not sure. Vote pending further thought.
  3. You sir, do you like to trade? Tired of getting burned on deals? Boy do I have a pitch for you to hear. I myself was once a trader of such stature, and quite honestly it sucked. So with the help of my clanmates I did something about it. I've compiled a list of trade information, as well as work with crafters to form what I believe is a unique group. However, due to reasons, I don't wishthis information to be public per say. Would you like to join? It's easy! We just have some simple requirements. You must either contribute information regularly or pay dues You must practice sustainable trading, and be willing to be held accountable to such. Interested? Questions? Please message me personally for a quick response. Think its a good idea but don't want to join? Please leave a like or some input. Think its a horrible idea, please do likewise.
  4. As you can see, it has it's legacy. Mostly known for durability, but in my opinion it's one of the better TB headsets. I have some expensive wireless pair, used them a week before I switched back to the X12s. The sound was just sad. The X12s are plenty loud, and have nice bass response. The microphone is of good quality too. I'd say hands down it's well worth the $60.
  5. Easily the best headset I've ever used was a TurtleBeach X12 Something like that. Was $60 when I got it, lately I've moved to a set of studio headphones and a separate mic, but that's a bit pricey. http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/xbox-360-headsets/ear-force-x12/56- Still for $60
  6. Fortunately, we are of different nations. Otherwise that could get a bit confusing...
  7. Aye! We are the Lords of the "Sea"... but not of the actual sea. We are a small group of friends looking to expand and gather more friends. We're not PvP or economy centered, we just sail along, doing whatever strikes the group of the day. We're exclusively US, and we have our own TeamSpeak, hosted by myself. We have a simple rank structure, more to show veteran status (as well as founders) rather than any actual chain of command. We're focused on helping and teaching new players, as well as general community.
  8. You Sir, are exactly who I mean! I deeply fear with EA coming you will be far from alone on that front. Surely if there is nothing done about it, the responsibility falls unto the players at least. I try and send all the new players I meet to the forums to look at the rules (not one of them knew they were there, I might add).
  9. I'm not sure on the demotion idea... It seems a bit wrong, but I can't quite put a finger to how exactly. As far as picking things out for context and what not, that's not terribly hard with chat logs. Yes, ideally everyone would self moderate, but that will never happen. People have different thoughts, and until our hive mind kicks in we won't ever really be on the same page as everyone. Thusly, we have moderators. Their sole purpose is to uphold the ideal of what the rules want. If someone is off a bit, nudge them back, if they ignore that, nudge them a bit harder.
  10. Alright, I have the poll up, I'd apreciate it if any further comments would be related to the poll exclusively.
  11. I would agree, I'm just saying more so if I wanted to buy a ship, I'd like to pick a builder I know will be on around when I am, and in the same location, as well as I'm getting the best price I can. Much like anyone would realistically buy a ship. I definately see a place for the inverse, you know "I want this, who can give it to me", that's just not what I personally would choose.
  12. Or perhaps just a location for shipbuilders to advertise/give quotes on projects. Like a place someone can have direct contact with builders and pick the one offering the best price/location/time.
  13. 1- I'm not saying they remove themselves from chat, just simply block the offender. 2- That sounds reasonably, if not chaotic. I was thinking on a chat division myself for a while, but not sure. Another option would be an optional filter. I definately like the idea of allowing people their choice, I just can't think of a good way, unfortunately. What with Global, Nation, Crew, etc chat all open at the same time PLUS a division of at Nation and Global chats (because some may want to use both, so they don't miss out on anything)... It sounds messy.
  14. It's not solely about my instance. I doubt I will be the last to experience this. As far as my rights, well, that's something else. Why should global or nation chat be any different than any in game communication? It's just as easy to avoid being insulted. Remove yourself from the situation. Now that I've said every bit of this in every way I can think, I guess that's that. You'll either see it as a problem or not. Only reason I've been responding is some people seem closed off to the idea (not counting you among them, Recluse, you're different (not sure in a good or bad way, honestly, but at least you aren't closed off.) My goal here wasn't an argument or an appeal to my own problem, just trying to see if people saw the problems I did. I guess mostly not. In summary of what I've read; most everyone can agree the rues definately need to be more prominant, and likely in game. EDIT- I'd love to see a pole on this, honestly, I think we've had enough discussion.
  15. Like I've said, I'm not asking for much here, and I'm not the only one. No one should have to deal with insults beyond reason, but there are limits. We all are here to have fun, and we all (for the most part) adults. No one wants to come on and be insulted, and no one wants to come on and have to be censored. In an ideal world, everyone would be on the same page, and there would be no one meaning harm, and everyone would get along swimmingly, but that's not the world we live in, and you can not expect that out of anything involving the human race. However, I'm not trying to suggest a reform of the rules themselves, simply how they are presented and upheld. If you want a well regulated system, that's awesome and I'm all for it; but you need people willing to take time to fully evaluate the situation. In an ideal situation, I can easily see a designated moderator even trying to talk to all parties at hand without any need for anyone to come away feeling wronged (for first time offenses, that is, after that, well, they're sort of being troublesome). It's not about needing admin resources elsewhere. If this is important to the game community, it should be given it's due amount of effort. The way I see the communities opinion on the "personality" of the game is that it's more for the sophisticated adult who doesn't want to deal with the usual MMO crap, and just wants to relax and play this advanced, historical simulator. Which is just a delightful idea. Wouldn't have it any other way. Except that constantly having to make sure no one is offended is taking me out of it a bit, as I would imagine being offended by something would. People need to learn to shut up, and yes, I'm aware I have a problem with this. However, shutting up isn't just about not offending, but sometimes keeping your offenses to yourself. If you just can't deal with that, take the next step. I feel as if a number of blocks should rightfully show if someone needs to do some more shutting up. You know, such as x number of blocks equals a warning/evaluation. Anyways, before I go off onto that tangent further, my point is this: if you are extremely tight with the rules, without being thorough and justly fair, you're going to lose people. Particularly the people you're going to get with early access and beyond. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks so, and maybe I'll be proven wrong come EA, and I'll gladly step aside then, but until then I believe very strongly in this, partly because I just love this game so much. This is a wonderful game and a fantastic community (which is a big plus for me, at least), and I'd just hate to see either one not fully develop, or worse, die of all together.
  16. I'm not at all saying it is a place for such. More so just that a warning would have been equally as effective, without any negative reprecussions such as losing players. No one should feel alienated for a small mistake they may not have know in the moment. A pubically listed 7-day ban from every social aspect of the game is a bit alienating, in my opinion. Saying the warning system is the terms of use is not in the least bit right. The rules are not in the least bit prominately displayed, and even less so for the early access player (unless there is change). Not to mention there is a grey area on what is considered ok to say. I'm not trying to push any boundaries, I'm just being myself. There has to be a balance between where people are protected from abuse, and people are protected from the weaker-skinned here. I haven't learned what not to say, more so just not to say. All chat should be a healthy community, rather than a mindless place to get information and invites, but if that's the role of Nation and Global chat, I suppose I'm mistaken. There are things we all know we absolutely can not do, and things most people acknowledge we shouldn't do. It's the grey areas that lead to problems and miscommunications. My point is that with the rule system in place, it's harming the community more than necesary. There are many less warnings than a total chat ban. A verbal warning, or channel ban (still don't know about 7 days though) would have been equally as effective.
  17. I'm not saying they should be less strict per say, more of a simple warning system. Strictness is all fine, but not everyone has the same idea of what's ok to say and not, particularly in the moment. All I'll say in regard to my situation is that I've never said anything I wouldn't say in real life. Nothing was said in anger, or spite, or any sort of malice. I made a joke in nation chat that someone took wrong. I'm not sorry for saying it, only sorry he took offense. Therefore I'm not going to give him an insincere apology, I'd rather take the punishment the admin thought best. All I'm trying to say though, is not everyone is smart, or overtly careful about peoples thoughts. That doesn't make them some horrible malicious person though. I'm sure a warning would cut down a lot of second offenses. EDIT- I suppose if you very much want to know the particulars of the story, PM me. No reason to put it out publically.
  18. This is a very decent idea. I'm not entirely sure of the "accidental piracy" idea though. Perhaps a demotion. And as well, it may be interesting to establish a pirate bounty system. If they are boarded, and lose, they have to be transferred to a national port, and then they can either be held for x number of hours/days or pay a fine. Of course, they can always call their pirate friends to attack the escort or prison.
  19. I'm getting tired of this excuse. It's like saying cutting off someone's hand for stealing is fine, because they can still use the other hand. Yes, the hand doesn't grow back and it's only a 7 day ban, but basically I've lost a large portion of the functionality of the game. Of which I paid for. I'd consider that a tangible loss and much as you can consider anything in game. Is it a awfully harsh punishment? Not exactly, just an awfully harsh warning.
  20. Johnny, I would very much agree, to a point at least. You've proposed what I see as a very effective system, however rules that have long been inplace should give less leniency. No one needs more than one warning on any offense, if they ignore the warning they are clearly in knowing violation of the rule, and an appeal system should take care of any possible slip-throughs. The only instance I can see an instant ban without warning is in the case of destructive gameplay, such as hacking. Even exploits should not be as harshly punished, as it is a bit subjective. Part of establishing a healthy community in this game is not only strict (in follow through, not punishment), but in a fair and well moderated system. And anyone who models an infrastructure after the current US legal system is an idiot. It's good in theory, but horribly played out in reality. I feel the current tribunal system is reasonably effective, when not too quick to jump the gun. If this is a problem on not being properly staffed, I'm sure there is a list of well-established members who would be willing to step up.
  21. They certainly did. I'll like the post if I can find it real quick. But in short, well, litterally. Carronades are to short and thin walled to stand the pressure of a charge capable of propelling double shot.
  22. Very decent point? I guess. It did give me a bit of a giggle after a quick read. But it does not address the problem I see. This is not an appeal. This is a simply a grave request for a reform, for the future.
  23. All of these rules are reasonably objective, and people will see them differently. I mean, there are some obvious lines, but there is a considerably amount of grey area, that I suppose I reside in. All I'm saying is a warning of some type, be it a shorter ban or a verbal warning, would be seemingly much more effective. I've held interest in this game a lot more than others, but that is mostly based on group battles and game discussions. Cutting every single thing has effectively cut off the game for some one like me. It genuinely not make a difference if the game was locked rather than just chat. Basically there are two levels, near as I can tell, a 7-day ban as a warning and a permanent ban afterwards. I have never seen a game so harsh in their penalties. Aside from offense that deeply alter many peoples gameplay (I know, another objective term) I see no reason for such severity.
