  1. I think they found in testing that players are simply risk averse. The less amount of dura, the less amount of time players will actually risk their ships. This is partly due to the grind, players don't want to risk the hours it took to procure their ships. Crafters will have less people buying their ships, not more, with less dura, unless the grind is significantly reduced in how long it takes for players to accumulate the wealth to get said ship. At first glance, one would think ships would turn over more rapidly with less dura, but I think there is some serious underestimation of how risk averse players can be.
  2. We did 25v25, that's the thread I was talking about. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8249-problem-with-25v25-port-battles/ It's not fun. People either run away if they don't have large BR and win by running. Or if the opposing side has super high BR, then they simply run over the other ships and win by ignoring them to destroy the towers. Unless something has seriously changed since we did that right before wipe, I doubt port battles have suddenly become much more fun. That's not to say they can't be, but we found after repeat battles, that mechanics can be abused really badly.
  3. I posted a lot about this in... http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/8249-problem-with-25v25-port-battles/
  4. I think my Voltaire quoting friend here has it right. Maybe she'll end up serving as a good escort ship for small port battles, able to keep speed with the shallow ships then intercept port defenders.
  5. Any in game screenshots of this ship? I heard its in game now, but haven't made it in queue's yet.
  6. I can't wait for a formal diplomacy system. Will make things like this so much less confusing.
  7. I'm in a guild that's pooling resources to build ships, so I'm less concerned for myself. However, I'd hate for small groups and solo players to struggle if crafters aren't selling ships larger than Brigs at reasonable prices. It's possible that people will only be in captured ships if they don't know a dedicated crafter to help them.
  8. Would be nice for a formal rule of engagement to be against this sort of thing. Otherwise, notifying the large clans through diplomatic means is likely the best course of action. They can alert their members to be wary of that individual. It'll minimize their impact on the community and sort itself out in the long run.
  9. No, thank you! And don't forget what I posted in the suggestions thread. I think the overwhelming positive reaction to this Steam release shows there are a lot of people who appreciate the hard work you developers are putting into this game.
  10. Mandatory subscriptions have not been added to the poll. Sorry for any confusion. It was never suggested by anyone here.
  11. I agree, I think... in principal, they are a neat idea. However, I also think that they aren't being used the way the devs intended.
  12. I like the -idea- of neutrals. However, I don't think they are being used the way they may have been intended. I agree that it might be best to simply remove them. The PvE crowd has their own server with its unique no friendly fire rules now anyway.
  13. Yes, yes we would. When I joined a few weeks ago, the US player base on Britain side was quite small. However, there are now some experienced folks in the Blue Squadron that would be happy to show you the ropes.
  14. Yes, but in real life, spies can be caught and hanged. You can't even fire on a spy in this game without green on green resulting in you being banned. Bad analogy is bad. Unless there are mechanics in game that allow you to deal in game with spies, wouldn't want features actively making their job easier.
  15. Indeed, thanks for those who RP and keep it good natured. :3
  16. Missions with AI would be a lot easier for Brits to overcome then organizing the man hours that it takes to collect all resources needed for first rates. I don't think you realize what an effort they are at the moment, if you think it's easy. However, I do like the idea of pirates being able to base out of free towns that are uncapturable. Sure, there would be the complaint that it's harder to contain pirates... but so what? Blockade and actively patrol those waters if you want to slow down pirates, the ability to squash them to the middle of the map where there capital is seems a bit silly. It'll ensure pirates are only a factor for a limited number of nationals.
  17. The idea I pitched with raiding is they'd get extra gold/ loot and raid flags could be bought from free towns, making them a menace all over the map and compensating for lack of keeping port. Raid would last until server reset at end of night, then flip back to owner with less resources. They'd be worth less to raid too, with less resources and incentivize pirates terrorizing different ports. But that's cool, if the pirate faction thinks they'd do fine without crafting SOL's. I've definitely seen pirates with the resourcefulness to capture and ambush nation's SOL's. Look forward to more good fights.
  18. I like the poll, voted for raiding only. I will only vote on restricting ships of the line for pirates if there is another mechanic that "buffs" them or somehow compensates for that limitation. As a Britain player, I've found pirates to be some of the most organized and would hate to hurt their ability to give us good fights.
  19. The SLRN has a French division, I think that's what he's going for.
  20. Only one constructed by the USA, right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pennsylvania_(1837) It was ordered in the time frame of the game, but not put to sea until after time frame of the game IIRC.
  21. Only war I could see as relevant to this time frame would be the War of 1812. However, wasn't this ship put to sea lake after the fact?
