  1. Army Intelligence information consists of Army size, Training, and Armory. What does the Army Size mean? The reason I ask is I am about to fight the Battle of Chickamauga and the intelligence information shows an army strength of 208-213k troops. Up to this point I have outnumbered the Union forces and have not faced an army any where near this size as the game has progressed. Does this number also reflect the number of recruits that are not yet in their field army? Just curious.
  2. Must've missed this thread. Thanks for posting the link.
  3. Are smaller (less than 24 guns) artillery brigades/batteries more effective than larger ones? Is the rate of fire for smaller artillery units, i.e. 6, 10, or 12 guns for faster than those of larger formations?
  4. I'm curious as to how many people move units around within a corps or army? I'm finding this comes in handy for preserving 2-3 star units that I cannot build up enough for a coming battle and do not wish to see them further depleted. The important thing here is to make sure there is an open spot in the corps /division you want to transfer the unit into.
  5. This is something I thought of as well. Regardless of what changes if any are made this game is already a classic in my book.
  6. I think one of the other victory conditions is also inflicting a higher % of kills on the enemy then they on you. The same thing happened to me when I played. I figured just taking the one objective would save taking additional casualties.
  7. I was able to win Gettysburg on Day 1 as the Confederates myself. While I had a number of 2 and 3 star brigades lose close to half their numbers, it was a relief not to have to fight Day 2 and 3. I'm looking forward to replacing the casualties and beefing up my corps for the next patch.
  8. Some may find this paper of interest. It was written by Gettysburg National Military Park ranger Troy Harman https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Did+Meade+Begin+a+Counteroffensive+after+Pickett's+Charge%3F&btnG=&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C39
  9. I don't think what few comments have been made are asking for UBER accuracy.
  10. Thanks. I pretty much got the impression from the scenario that the Union player could go on the offensive of let the clock run out. I'll give it a try and see what happens.
  11. Has anyone chosen to go on the offensive as the Union player on July 4? Though I won the battle, the risk (more casualties) verses reward was not worth it. Besides capturing additional weapons and or prisoners what else can be gained?
  12. This is a portion of the G.K. Warren map showing Gettysburg and Rock Creek to the east. As you can see there are no streams or creeks of any significance around the town.
  13. This YouTube channel has a number of short videos showing various aspects of the game. https://www.youtube.com/user/ultimategeneraltv/videos
  14. It might seem nit-picky but these structures and features are what make Gettysburg the Gettysburg we know.
  15. Why is the Ultimate General Civil War map of Gettysburg less accurate than that of Ultimate General Gettysburg version? The first two shots are of UG Gettysburg's McPherson barn and Lutheran Seminary. The next two are of the same locations in UG Civil war. What's with the moat and all the bridges crossing into the town of Gettysburg? The lay of the terrain itself is quite different. Hopefully the map is still being developed and will evolve over time. 1. McPherson barn Ultimate General Gettysburg 2. Lutheran Seminary Ultimate General Gettysburg 3. Bridges crossing over the "Gettysburg moat" Ultimate General Civil War 4. McPherson barn Ultimate General Civil War 5. Lutheran Seminary Ultimate General Civil War
  16. I'm finding the same to be true of 2nd Winchester. What you stand to gain from winning (as the Union player anyways) is not worth the losses you'll take to get them. I chose to retreat my units off the map to fight another day. Just be sure your reputation can take the hit.
  17. I'd like to see attrition of the AI "player" somehow built into the game. I think it's a bit inaccurate for the AI "player" to come back healthy and well armed after suffering defeat after defeat. You (the human player) can only rebuild depleted units so much. Why not make this the case for the AI?
  18. I try to give as many of my units equal gameplay where possible. They can't gain experience NOT seeing combat.
  19. Though I agree, not ALL battles throughout history saw evenly matched forces. There were times when troops were put in the most difficult of situations. At the least it would be nice to see reinforcements arrive a bit sooner. They also seem to move slower. Maybe it's just the expanse of ground they have to cover to get into action.

    Map Scrolling

For the second time I'm having problems scrolling the map. It started when I was playing the Rio Hill scenario and continued onto other scenario maps today. I can use the keyboard to scroll by clicking on the mini map or the keys on the keyboard for scrolling. Any thoughts?
  21. Does any have a great tactic for attacking units behind fortified positions, walls, and fences? I'm mainly talking about those identified with a shield symbol/icon above them. It appears the defenders benefit from the same cover bonuses regardless of where the attacker is positioned. It does not make sense to me that units seem to enjoy this bonus even when units get in and fire at them from behind. IMO the maximum benefit should only apply to frontal attacks, while it should be less if the defender is attacked on the flank or from behind.
  22. My guess would be the Union side would have fewer units if they were lumped together, thus making it a bit easier for the Confederates to defeat them.
  23. What do you do with prisoners? There does not appear to be a way to send them off map. I would not like to have a situation where they reactivate (armed no less) while in captivity, thus posing a huge problem for me.
