  1. Try a bottle of Night Train and see what ideas you come up with. : )
  2. Hand to hand fighting during the brief Confederate breakthrough of the Union line at the Carter farm - Battle of Franklin, TN. 1864. The Carter house in the background and the small brick office in the foreground are still standing. The wood portion of the house still has the bullet holes showing, while the back side of the brick office still shows the damage from Confederate cannon fire. The Carter Cotton Gin is due to be reconstructed this or early next year. The Carter House and Carter Cotton Gin were locations for the most fierce fighting. At the time of the battle the Carter farm was about 3/4 of a mile from downtown Franklin. The town has since grown up around the Carter house location, but the Civil War Trust has been reclaiming as much land around the house as possible. For instance, the reconstruction of the Cotton Gin at it's original site, was recently the location of a Domino's Pizza. And the location across the street from the Cotton Gin (where General Cleburne was killed and now has a memorial), was the location of a Pizza Hut. The Carnton Plantation - which was used as a hospital during and after the battle is still standing, and the Carnton grounds is the location of the Confederate cemetery for those killed at the battle. Many of the Union soldiers who died at Franklin are buried at the Union cemetery 28 miles east at Stone's River Battlefield.
  3. I was hoping there could be a solution so that the ship rates wouldn't be separated; back to a single circle maybe?. I thought of a battle you witnessed, Duke, where the smaller ships were acting as protectors of a larger ship. So, at least in the early stages of the battle, there would be 5 battle groups; each group initially protecting it's 1st rate. As the battle progressed the individual groups would probably slowly disperse due to mayhem and loses. Just thought a system such as this would add deeper layers for strategic and tactical options.
  4. Now that we're on the verge of going hardcore in NA, I believe it's time to have a serious discussion regarding fleet composition in port battles. The attached photo is included just as a visual (substitute a 1st rate for the carrier, and two 2nd rates and two 3rd rates for the remaining ships). We've argued to strive for as much reality in all other aspects of the game. I believe it's time to tackle this one. To use a deep water port battle as an example, I suggest having 5 separate battle groups that make up the fleet; each of the five battle groups within the fleet would be made up of: One 1st rate, Two 2nd rates and Two 3rd rates. Fleet total: Five 1st rates, Ten 2nd rates and Ten 3rd rates per side. Fellow Forum member z4ys has been supportive of the idea and encouraged me to think it through and submit an idea. He thought that the biggest flaw would be that the majority of players would always want to be in the 1st rates, and therefore there would be a constant conflict for who gets in the biggest ship. I say, the game should simply make it mandatory to have a composition similar to this, and the players will just have to adapt. After all, we're just used to 25 L'Oceans vs 25 L'Oceans port battles out of habit. If diverse fleet composition had been mandatory for port battles since their inception, we would have been none the wiser, and would have always played by those rules. We all will adapt to this change just as we will adapt to no teleports, single dura ships and all of the other upcoming changes to the game. I encourage everyone to submit any other suggestions that may further improve on this idea. My thought was that it would add a touch more authenticity to port battles. Thanks for your time.
  5. Way before coordinates were in game; finding Kidd's Island for the first time. Sunsets and sunrises when approaching land. My heart racing the first time I experienced PVP. Receiving my first Exceptional 3/5 Constitution. Logging in to NA shortly after implementation of OW and finding 1 million in gold in my account from the devs. I bought a Victory a Santissima and Bellona and had a ball. Exploring the entire map.
  6. Could we have two separate character perks? One for battle ships and one for trader ships? We would still have to pay a cost to reset perks but only for the class of ship we want to reset. In other words, re-setting the perks on a battle ship would not affect the perks you chose on your trader ship and vice versa. I also agree with others who believe that the cost to reset character perks could be lowered to 25 PVE Marks.
  7. Yes! You fund it and I'll find the director!
  8. This story has all the makings for a great movie.
  9. I missed that one. Apologies for the misinformation.
  10. Also, on the testbed server, there is no cost for hiring crew when in port. Rum is used for replacing crew while at sea.
  11. Thanks, Nick. I do hope that they include Franklin at some point. Hood's army was severely damaged during this 'Pickett's Charge of the West' assault on the breastworks and gin house around Carter farm. This battle was a pivotal lead up to the battle of Nashville a few days later.
  12. Nick. Will the Nashville battle incorporate the Battle of Franklin, TN?
  13. UnicornBuster. Tried it on my main computer - the one I play NA on - and it works like a dream. Thanks again for a great map!
  14. Zoom in and out works fine with mouse wheel (PC computer using Google Chrome). But panning left/right or up/down while pressing mouse wheel and holding down does not work.
  15. Great job! I'm having trouble being able to pan left and right. I'm using the middle mouse button as illustrated on your map, but have no luck in panning. Am I missing something? I'm using Chrome.
  16. They became actors in Pirate movies. : ) Seriously, I hope for nothing but positive changes to Pirates. If they can make the changes while striking a good balance between enjoyable gameplay and historical pirates, all the better. We must have pirates.
  17. As a sanctuary island and because of the name, I understand the vote. But Tortuga is more centrally located in the Caribbean for fast access to shipping lanes. It also lays claim historically as a prominent pirate haven.
  18. I would vote for Tortuga as the Pirate capital over any other.
  19. There's one bit of information that I just read about. The surgeon who tended to Jackson had to amputate Jackson's arm. The arm was buried at Chancellorsville seperately from the body. There is a gravestone that reads; 'Arm of Stonewall Jackson May 3, 1863'. Jackson's body is buried at Lexington, Va.
  20. Jackson was shot by members of the 18th North Carolina Infantry; which was providing the Confederate picket. As most already know, they mistook Jackson and some of his men for Union cavalry.
  21. Ok, no teasing, just where is this snipers nest? I'm guessing Devil's Den from the picture you posted?
  22. I prefer spawning to a circle that is just beyond the visibility of the nearest enemy ship in battle instance. As a reward for successfully escaping from battle, the escaping player has the chance to continue his escape, while at the same time the enemy player still has a chance to locate the target again; due to both of them being within the general area of the original battle.
  23. I have also noticed some latency when firing cannon on the testbed server. Is this intentional?
