  1. The early American West is one of my favorite themes. I will definitely buy the game. Continued stellar graphics from Game Labs.
  2. Totally agree. Mods that mimic history, such as: copper plating; lightweight ropes and blocks; optimized rudder (and others similar to these) are the only type of speed mods that should be available for ships. Combine these with the different wood types that are already in the game, and that is all that should be necessary for speed builds. Magic mods that enable ships to be grossly overpowered in any category hurt the game in my opinion. They can artificially create too large a gap between two identical ships or artificially create too narrow a gap between two completely different ships.
  3. A great idea that has been suggested before. Let's hope the dev's are compiling folders of the most asked for additions to the game so that they can revisit them and reconsider them. Thanks for reminding them!
  4. I had a feeling someone would catch that. Good one!
  5. I agree with, and have suggested, having duel officer's; or better yet, having the ability to reset officer perks at will. No player should be but at a disadvantage in subsequent battles for x amount of days simply because (for one day) he had to reset officer perks in order to move multiple ships to a new outpost. Have also agreed to the ability to see the wind gauge when in port - your suggestion for seeing it in end of battle screen is also a good idea. Ability to take noon time position, ala TDA map, would be a logical inclusion for this game.
  6. Although we never meet each other face to face, we do get to know each other through Naval Action; each in our own unique way. To all of his clan mates and those that got to know him, I offer my sincere condolences. o7 Captiva
  7. To be able to recreate battles that we have read about all our lives - not just one, but all of the major battles of the U.S Civil War - and to see the terrain, the troops, and experience the logistical and tactical challenges of these battlefields, is truly an amazing accomplishment. Thank you, indeed.
  8. This is the safest way to navigate at the moment without using a third party map. I would like to see the devs implement the ability to take a noon position; similar to that in the TDA map. For those unfamiliar with the TDA map, taking a noon position lets you know approximately where your location is on the map, not a pinpoint, gps location.
  9. I'm still wishing the developers would include the Battle of Franklin, Tn. as part of the battle of Nashville, The two are extremely dependent on each other. The Battle of Franklin had a huge bearing on the final result at Nashville. It cannot be understated. Besides, six Confederate Generals that are involved in various battles throughout the Campaign lost their lives at Franklin. Still hoping to see it's inclusion.
  10. Nashville has a multi Grammy Award winning Symphony Orchestra, a pro Hockey team that was in the Stanley Cup final this year, a pro Football team that has been to the Super Bowl, it's the triple A home of baseball's Oakland A's; has a great art scene, museum and performing arts center. Nashville also has a diverse music scene that rivals that of any other city. Country music simply put it on the map decades ago. Your describing 1970's Nashville and even earlier. It's nowhere near that anymore. But if you only experience 2nd Avenue when visiting, then you might think it is still stuck in the 70's. Music Row is an area near downtown that is the heart of music related businesses; publishing houses, recording studios, radio stations, video production houses. It's far from being New York, L.A. or London, but it's no longer the city of Hank Williams' era either.
  11. I wanted to add one more request. Lower the amount of points needed to reset officer perks by at least half: 50 to 25. Maybe even eliminate having to grind up again once you reach 50 or 100 for the first time. This hurts all players, but mostly the new player. Example: Player has to help move ships to a new outpost, so he needs 2 fleet slots. He has to reset officer perks to gain the added slots. Once that single move is made, the player is locked out of his previous officer perk selections for too long of a time, putting him at a needless disadvantage until he once again reaches the current reset requirements. With ships now being 1 dura, a player should not be forced into this dilemma. To me, this falls into the repetitive needless grind category.
  12. 1. Add availability to see the Wind Indicator while in port (myself and others have requested this feature many times before). 2. Ease up a little on the grind in the areas where it is the harshest - you've had plenty of player feedback regarding which areas to consider. 3. Revenge ganking - lots of great ideas have been submitted from long time players. But please, no teleport to Free Town.
  13. I always thought the Weather Deck as being the exposed portion between the Quarter Deck and the Forecastle in order to avoid confusion when ordering crew members about the ship.
  14. I'm all for the 32 point compass. I'd also like to have the ability to take a noon position; similar to that in the excellent TDA map....ok, back to the compass.
  15. We should actually have the option to take any single item from a shipwreck while in any ship that has the cargo space for that item. It's our shipwreck; we found the bottle; we should be able to do as we please; no rules. If we want to send the remainder of the loot to the bottom of the sea, that's our prerogative.
  16. Please give us the option to loot individual items from found shipwrecks (if there is a way, I haven't found it yet). We have the option take what we choose when we board a sinking ship, so we should have the same option when looting a shipwreck. Sometimes the total loot from a shipwreck will not fit in a traders lynx or traders cutter. When sailing either of these two ships the player should have the option to loot whichever items he chooses - up to the max of what will fill into the cargo hold - and the option to choose which items to leave behind on the shipwreck. I believe we used to have this option when shipwrecks were first introduced into game. Please bring it back.
  17. Either of these two suggestions would be more clear - less chance for confusion - than the wording we are currently given in ports
  18. I like the bottom part of the overlay. It feels like it's a part of your ship. For my tastes the top portion of overlay could be omitted. Having both gives too much of a boxed in feeling while at sea (closing out the skyline). Good job!
  19. Yes you can. You can play the Campaign mode where the battle timeline is linear, or you can play the Historic battles in which you can choose to play most of the battles that are in the Campaign but you are choosing them individually and in any order i.e. "I feel like playing Gettysburg today", "that was fun, now I think I'll play Shiloh". Awesome.
  20. Gael. I too, grew up in the midwest farm country (Illinois). My great, great Grandfather joined an Illinois Volunteer regiment toward the end of the war and was stationed at a ammo depot in Alton, Illinois. I now live in Franklin and am a member of the Franklin Civil War Roundtable. I had little knowledge of the Battle of Franklin, and it's importance, till I moved here 20 years ago. Many of the Union soldiers at Franklin were from the mid-western states of Ohio, Illiinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. How cool that you lived down the road from Opdycke's grandson! Opdycke helped save the day at Franklin by charging forth from behind the battle lines to repulse the Confederates from their breakthrough of the Union line just south of the Carter house. Most of that fighting took place in the Carter yard, pictured in the painting. Franklin is such a tragic story for the Army of Tennessee. I continue to hope that the battle is included in the game. It could be a stand alone historical battle or included as a part of the Battle of Nashville in the campaign. Some Battle of Franklin Facts: World War 2 General Douglas MacArthur's father was a part of Opdycke's brigade and was in the middle of the fight at the Carter house. More Confederate generals were killed at Franklin than in any other battle of the war: Cleburne, Carter, Adams, Granbury, Gist and Strahl. At Gettysburg, 12,000 Confederates marched over a mile of open ground during Pickett's Charge. At Franklin, 20,000 Confederates marched over two miles of open ground to attack the breastworks at Franklin. The Confederate casualties from the assault at Franklin, were greater than those from Pickett's Charge. Franklin resident Todd Carter was a Captain in the Army of Tennessee. His childhood home was the Carter house. As he rode his horse toward the Union breastworks in front of his family home, he was struck by a Union bullet. Before the battle commenced, Todd's father and family retired to the cellar of their home for safety. After the battle ended and the Union Army retreated toward Nashville, the Carter family was informed of their son's being wounded. They searched and found Todd's body about 500 feet from the house he grew up in. He was carried back to the house where he died the following day. Captiva
  21. This. Before coordinates were introduced, I made a hand drawn compass; drawn with a black magic marker on a clear sheet protector. I would simply lay the sheet protector flat against the computer screen with the center of the compass placed over the port I was in. I would then look at the direction to my destination and mirror that heading to the heading on the in game compass. I found every single shipwreck from sealed bottles across the map using this method. So I am greatly in favor of having a movable compass on the in-game map.
  22. We have different visions for port battles. Personally, if I was asked to help defend a national port and it required me to captain one of the smaller rated ships, I would have no problem doing so. However, I respect and understand your view, which is also the majority view. Cheers
  23. Grundgemunkey. I have to correct something. I never once gave "aesthetecally pleasing" as an argument for this idea. I did say (in my first response) that it would add more strategic and tactical depth to port battles. I also believe that having mixed rate ship composition would reflect port battles in an historically more authentic way; this is important for some of us. Remember also, that the majority of ships would be 2nd rates and 3rd rates (twenty per side), while there would be only five 1st rates per side. In the early stages of the battle the 2nd and 3rd rates would initially be providing protection for the 1st rates within each of the five battle groups. I would personally have no problem being in one of the 2nd or 3rd rates, but I agree with you that this would be an issue with many - probably most - players. I do not have a solution for this dilemma which is why I asked for ideas. After thinking on this a little longer, this type of idea would probably never be implemented simply due to players accepting the current norm of 25 vs 25 L'Ocean slug-fests; old habits are hard to break. But I and others can dream. : ) Thanks
