  1. I may be recalling incorrectly, but doesn't the major fighting north of the railroad tracks occur during the final phase of Stones River?
  2. Thank you, Admin. Merry Christmas to all and a prayer for peace on earth.
  3. Take Command, Scourge of War and the Command Ops series (always wished for a 3D map for Command Ops, similar to that in the new Armored Brigade game) have given me hours and hours of first rate game-play! Ultimate General: Civil War has provided the same for me.
  4. Great ideas, Koltes. I just posted a suggestion earlier today that I thought would be a compromise for the Protractor/Sextant. The idea was to implement a floating movable compass on the map, similar to that on some 3rd party maps. You would not be able to draw a line from point A to point B. You would have to take a visual note of your destination heading. There would be no red arrow indicating your heading on the OW compass. The sextant would then be used to check your position from time to time and then you would use the movable map compass to again check your heading and make adjustments as needed. My idea is certainly not as interesting as yours, but I believe it would be an improvement. Thanks
  5. Hey there, Macjimm. What is your view on the Protractor? Because to my way of thinking, using the protractor to draw a line from point A to point B and then displaying the direction marker on the compass - so that you do not stray from that heading - is way more helpful than the Sextant. The Sextant simply shows your location along the way. I like having them both. However, I think a lot of players might be more receptive of them if the compass were a small, free moving icon (similar to those on some 3rd party maps) that you moved around the map in order to estimate your general heading; without having the ability to draw a straight line from point A to point B, and without displaying the red direction marker on the compass. This, I believe, would add just a wee bit of uncertainty to your voyage. I support your idea of having the ability to turn off the Sextant if a player wishes, but then you should have the option of turning off the protractor as well. Thanks
  6. We've been asking for the wind direction while in port for some time now. I was hoping it would have be included with the new port UI. I still believe the Sextant should be available to all, not a perk, just as the Protractor is available to all. They are both navigation tools.
  7. I've just started 'Nelson's Trafalgar: The Battle That Changed The World' by Roy Adkins after it was recommended here by Norfolk nChance. A great read.
  8. I would prefer that they create a faction called 'Privateer' to appeal to the player who prefers the non-conformist/non nation-allegiance lifestyle but without the hardcore mechanics, and leave the Pirate nation as the only hardcore choice in the game - without splitting them into regular pirate and outlaw pirate.
  9. I would love to help you test 'Dreadnoughts'. If there's an extra bunk, I'm aboard!
  10. Yes, I re-rolled as U.S. player on test server under a new character name. I understood that the rewards would be based on your account, not your War Server character name or Nation. I did not delete my War server name (Captiva).
  11. Same here. Didn't get Christian
  12. To follow up on your suggestion, I would add a dedicated fire button that becomes active if Marines are crewed onboard a players ship. If an enemy ship gets within a predetermined proximity to a ship equipped with Marines the musket fire becomes effective against the enemies crew.
  13. Just tried the calculator on Google Chrome. Works like a charm with no issues.
  14. Used Microsoft Edge. Will try Google Chrome. I will try Firefox as well. I started on the L'Ocean, switched to the Victory and then went back to the L'Ocean. The numbers were different on the L'Ocean from what was shown the first time, as indicated in the screenshots.
  15. Bumsebiene. I hope you can shed some light on what I may be doing wrong. I'm including two screenshots with same build and no upgrades on L'Ocean. When I switched to another ship and then back to L'Ocean I'm getting two repair results. As I noted to you in an email, it has happened with other ships as well. Thanks!
  16. There should be absolutely no reason whatsoever for being conflicted when your very own words state, "thinking logically". Come on, this is an age of sail game that should include a static Captain's Map similar to Shrouded Recluse's gorgeous map with cords, and a historically based method to, as you again say, "realistically identify his location with good enough precision". You've answered your own question.
  17. Thanks for the clarification, z4ys. Because of this, I will withdraw my Alt DLC suggestion and return to my original position of lobbying to ban alts.
  18. Ok, then Game Labs should fix the mechanics, and then offer the Multi Character/Nation DLC on one account, and let the games begin. Let's do away with having to purchase multiple full price or sale price downloads of Naval Action in order to be competitive. Let's make it easier and more affordable for all players to play Multi-Characters and Nations, not harder. Game Labs needs to simply sign off on and officially give their blessing to the Alt DLC, and potentially making more money to boot. A win-win for everyone. I'm personally in favor of banning alts from the game, but it apparently will not or cannot be done. So, as Slim said above, "If you can't beat, join em".
  19. Quote from Ink this past Wednesday under 'Suggestions - Alt Tracking': "Captain, economic warfare and spying by alts is allowed" So who are we kidding here? Let's stop this charade and go full nuclear. Game Labs should provide a DLC that allows a player to have multiple character/nation alts without having to purchase two or more separate Naval Action accounts. I would suggest allowing three, as was once allowed for a very brief period of time if my memory serves me well. $19.99 sounds about right for the purchase of the DLC. That's about half the price of having to purchase another copy of Naval Action. I'm pretty positive that Game Labs would stand to make a considerable amount of money by offering an officially sanctioned DLC like this. As it is now, we have this semi-veiled acceptance of alts - as long as you play by accepted, but non-specific alt rules - whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. It also seems to be accepted dogma that having multiple accounts does not diminish the integrity of the game or is unfair to those who do not choose to or cannot afford multiple accounts, so let's make it officially legal and affordable for all. Multiple nation alts and prolific forger, what could go wrong? Hell yeah! C'mon Game Labs, let's do this!
  20. On paper, you are correct. But if alts still exist in any number at all (as they do now, and always will, if not banned) they will continue to disrupt fair and equal gameplay for all of those who don't choose to or can't afford multiple accounts. Crusty makes a great point: "If alts had no impact on the game then we would all be allowed multiple characters without having to buy a second game". So I say, let's do it! If we're not going to ban alts, then let everyone have 3 separate characters at one time on the server. IN FACT, make it an affordable DLC! Let us all have the opportunity to get in on the action! Three separate in game nation/characters with Prolific Forger? Hell yeah!! The Dev's would probably make more money if they did this than they would off of alt accounts; and it would help level the playing field for those who don't have alt accounts. Come on Game Labs, let's do this!
  21. The game has the DLC, 'Prolific Forger' available for all who wish to purchase it. If the game wanted to support true spying, then Alts should be banned. If banned, a player who wanted to play the role of a spy would have to change Nation and Character name by using 'Prolific Forger'. He would then relay information to his clan members and nation of true allegiance through various means of communication; thus playing the role of a true spy, and not playing one character against the other. We're diminishing the integrity of this great game by the acceptance of Alts. The combination of "Prolific Forger' and multiple Alts is a cancer to this game. It disrupts almost every aspect of fair and equal gameplay.
  22. I would like to recommend a fairly new age of sail book series. There is one book currently available with another due this November. The author is William Westbrook. His first book its titled 'The Bermuda Privateer'. The second book, due to be released in November 2018, is titled 'The Black Ring'. The first book was very fast paced with lots of action. Overall, I wouldn't put it in the Patrick O'Brian category, but if you want a very fun and relatively quick read, then I would suggest the author. Think Patrick O'Brian without all of the character backstory. Although I love the Patrick O'Brian style, this series is refreshing for it's brevity. A good end of summer read. o7 Captiva
