  1. You spend money to attack someone in the open world or to join a PB? Weird.
  2. @Intrepido Why do PvP and PBs matter to successfully managing the Economics as a solo?

    "REAL" TRADE BETWEEN PLAYERS

You are missing that once communications with people who have access to resources you do not (other nations) we will not be able to do this.

    One Server for PVP

According to the devs' statement of the original concept, this was supposed to be a ship to ship combat game. The whole conquest thing was an "also added" that made less and less real pvp ship combat happen. It also (but this i my opinion) drove the game to the point where folks using only really big boats with tactics that were stagnant before 1850. As one of the pirates said: SoL will get shredded by faster, lighter ships fighting a melee style of combat. I've listened, read and watched the YouTubes... none of what I see is very impressive from a tactical standpoint. It's the same battle over and over and over and over and over... There was a reason there weren't massive changes of ownership in the Caribbean during the age of sail. A few were taken and fewer held -- it was just too expensive an undertaking. Port battles and "conquest" will eventually -- and fairly quickly is the game's life, I believe -- end up with one side owning everything or so near to it it won't matter. And that really will kill the game.

They'd get the "we're better" feeling from the arena with leader boards and "team" standings, as well.

    "REAL" TRADE BETWEEN PLAYERS

That would be a good compromise between nothing and omniscient, victor. There are a few things that would make trading easier: a list like you suggested, or at least list of who is in port (irl I could scan the harbor and read ship names).

    "REAL" TRADE BETWEEN PLAYERS

But there isn't any way to know when someone from another nation is in port, nor to arrange a meeting. Makes the trade channel a bit worthless unless you sit in the harbor, select on the way in and send a PM. "Hey sailor, what some ore?" I was going to say wood, but....

Silly. Now I can't even fish at my favorite dock. These government regs are just getting rediculous.

    "REAL" TRADE BETWEEN PLAYERS

I suppose that depends on how badly you want pudding. His point was we could call the medium of exchange whatever you want. @Macjimm The point of using money is so that we don't have to pull wagons full of stuff around to go shopping -- it's a question of convenience. Since we are traveling around with a hold full of stuff anyway, what reason is there not to do goods/goods trading? Putting up buy/sell offers on the shop should always be for cash, but if we meet somewhere we should be able to direct trade for goods. There is a lot more of that happening irl today than you may think. @victor If they go ahead and remove global chat we would not be able to direct trade with someone from another nation whether we are in a Free Port or not.

Testbed - Demasting & Accuracy cap

Said this in another thread: Stepping a new mast is an all day affair having a lot of risk is you are not in dry dock. It would not, should not, and could not be done on open water, in battle, at all. It is beyond stupid to think thi should be a thing. It's like pulling and replacing an aircraft engine while you're falling out of the sky.

Hotfix 7 for testbed patch 9.99

Probly right, but this seem to have turned into the basic almost everything test bed thread.
  12. In particular: Why does the US not have any ports in the region? Turtle Cay was, but for some reason when I looked at the map to estimate my sailing course is was Pirate. WTF. I was under the impression this area was going to be a zone for Newbs not to get overwhelmed by gank squads. I didn't read where this was going to change and every nation should have a port in the region. Everything North and west of Nassau i pirate ports. If this is from pirates flipping ports than your basic system is pure BS.

Hotfix 7 for testbed patch 9.99

I'd say it's more tedious than hard. A single barrel used to make provisions, for example takes .6 oak log (for the plank), 1 Iron ore + .25 coal (for the ingot), 1 fir log (for the tar). My production cost is 128.8 Gold for each barrel -- but I bought the ingots from another player so I don't know what the resources for that would cost if I make them myself. To turn that into provisions takes .5 barrel and 1 food supply per unit (which the fish and salt cost 40/unit in the shop, but can be had for free fishing.). So production cost for one provision is 65 rounded up to the nearest whole gp. As I said, tedious if you're doing that for everything you craft.

without rvr/pbs you have a game of smaller battles and trading/sailing in the Caribbean. OW is what makes this different than an arena game, not rvr/pb.

Hotfix 7 for testbed patch 9.99

I'm selling at about 20% profi margin to keep everything available for people ready to craft. I'm working on crafting mats such as provisions and producing some basics like hemp and oak. I want to see some crafted ships coming out so... But yeah, I see your point about the silver prices.

    Bahama Ports

Removing TP to capital would fix the first one. They were still limited to 1v1. Mass consumption has less effect if you just reduce the artificial demand. Bahamas was a central area that would allow newbs to expand outward in all directions a they gained confidence. Your last line supports my earlier statement the development is focused on PB and not much else.

Hotfix 7 for testbed patch 9.99

People are already setting prices at inflationary levels. 400 for a unit of silver, 200 for one of hemp. And they're offering to buy at prices below the cost of production. So even now the economy is unable to be tested due to lack of people and understanding of cost/gain.

    Bahama Ports

It is, or was a starting port for the US. And a newb area is needed. I guess the devs really don't care about anything but PB and letting people get sunk before they learn how to sail.

Hotfix 7 for testbed patch 9.99

Building and tearing down doesn't really help you test whether your econ model is viable, however. I realize the devs gave us a huge chunk of cash to start with, but (using the fourth Outpost as an example) 70,000 goes into putting up one production building for farming. 120,000 for the fifth outpost and building you need. Unless I start pen and paper records of the capital expenditures there is no way to keep track of the profit/loss info. With so few people on the test bed for any individual country testing the trading market at this time isn't practical.
  21. Your right on the speed for according to the chart -- I was thinking of the regular Snow. The build I made using the old crafting system made it much faster. Still adjusting.
  22. Trader Snow is better all round ship: better armed; seems to sail faster and is more maneuverable. If I'm going to be chased I want something quick. The Brig is a tank by comparison and sails like one imo.
  23. I prefer the T Snow, myself.
  24. @Ghroznak this isn't the final release so you're likely to face another wipe or two before it's done. Just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
  25. I think the "give me what I want or you will lose all your players" approach isn't a good way to convince the devs to rush it for you. It's been tried to death and hasn't worked yet.
