Don't let the title fool you, this canvas shows much more than a close-up of a mortally wounded Nelson. Instead, the length of Victory's deck is shown from the end of her quarterdeck. The bowsprit, for and main masts are shown, and give the viewer a great idea of the scale of the ship. Both the port and starboard sides of the ship are engaged, the Redoubtable on one side, and the Bucentaure on the other. On the port side, three lieutenants can be identified by their bicorne hats. One is in the forecastle, another is amidships directing the marines, as the marine lieutenant has been shot, and can be seen being carried below. The last is on the quarterdeck near the farthest 12 pounder. Three midshipmen are also visible. One is among the guns on the port-side quarterdeck, another is aiming a musket in the foreground, and the last is wounded or dead, and is being carried below directly behind the mainmast. Nelson is near the starboard-side of the quarterdeck, and is being assisted by two sailors, a marine, and the marine captain. The ship's captain, Thomas Masterman Hardy, can be seen on the quarterdeck moving towards Nelson. Personally my favorite depiction of Nelson's shooting, and there are a lot out there.
