  1. But drama is good for the newspaper, you have to hand the press something otherwise the papers will just be filled with notices about slave trade, dinner parties, and missing donkeys.
  2. Well, damned. It seems I was wrong, I can't seem to find a reliable source for when February 15th was a Monday, but it appears it might actually be in 1796. If anyone can confirm that, perhaps that's the year to go for. EDIT: That would put us in the turmoil of the French Revolutionary Wars... Are the French royalists? Are the Dutch actually fighting as the Batavian Republic? Well, it's hard to make sense of however we imagine it.
  3. So you reckon it should be 1792? I chose 1786 only because it had a 6 in the end and was between 1785 and 1795, the timespan that I think most appropriate for the game's setting (as we discussed earlier).
  4. Your reactions tell me that it may have hit a nerve. Now, it may all have been a misunderstanding, and personally I think it highly unlikely that SLRN would stage such a scenario; but this is how it was perceived in the Danish nation, and it was made quite clear to us that this was initiated by a British proposition, nothing has been heard about PFK at all in this case, and perhaps that is where the confusion comes from. Good day.
  5. It is interesting how your representatives didn't seem to grasp the implications of said "cease fire", and the impact it would have had on your relations with the Swedes and the French. I guess you stepped in just in time - but the point still stands.
  6. Past Issues Sunday, September 25, 1796. Friday, September 23, 1796. Thursday, March 3, 1796. Tuesday, March 1, 1796. Monday, February 15, 1796. Inspired by the historical newspaper of the same name.
  7. The flags are unreliable anyway, the current Danish and Swedish ones were never used for the navy for example. I think it's more important to look at the nations that are present, and conclude based on that. We have the US, obviously, and we also have the Dutch "United Provinces" (Verenigde Provinciën). We currently only have "France", so we can't say anything based on the French Revolution - as I said, I personally think France should still be a kingdom.
  8. I believe you mean 1785 to 1795 in that case?
  9. I have wanted to discuss this as well, Swieb. I agree entirely, the game must necessarily be set between 1776 (US independence) and 1795 (end of the Dutch Republic). I'm working on the first issue of a Danish newspaper, and I have opted for the year 1786 as the most fitting one.
  10. I agree that this discussion should take place elsewhere. Check here for other suggested solutions.
  11. Welcome to Naval Action! Another experienced bunch to cope with - hrm hrm...
  12. Am I to understand that you are now only active on PvP 2? If so, I'm sad to hear it; but I wish you good luck and fair winds!
  13. I like how you paint the Danes and the Dutch as war-criminals before Early Access; that's quite a distorted view if you ask me. I don't think an ally of Sweden should talk about past crimes, and why should we talk about them? It's irrelevant for the current situation.
  14. There's been made a new film about the Dano-Norwegian naval hero, Tordenskjold, but apparently it's a comedy more than anything else; I'd rather find a version of this :
  15. @OP: From what I understand, the enemies surrounding Denmark-Norway did a damned good job coordinating to attack us on both fronts (thank the gods the pirates didn't join in), it isn't easy to have multiple fronts in great wars, as has been proven again and again by history. Hopefully we will have many more glorious engagements in the future; may the best captains win! Hear, hear! Well said, our most loyal Scanian countryman!
  16. Oh, but the Russian attack on Rincón wasn't the same evening, was it? I have no knowledge of any friendship between Danes and Pirates; my notion is that the Pirates simply seized the opportunity.
  17. Oh, there was another assault on Marigot? I'm unable to catch up with all these events, I must say things are going way too fast for my taste.
  18. As far as I'm aware (I was unable to participate), Denmark-Norway was attacked by the Spanish (Samana), the Brits (Higuey), the French, and the Swedes (Spanish Town and The Settlement) on the same evening. We only lost our western-most port (Samana), which was left undefended, to the Spanish. Then the Dano-Norwegian and Russian fleets counter-attacked at about ten/half past ten CET (which is hardly a night-attack), splitting up and assaulting Marigot and Fort Baai at the same time. We managed to capture Fort Baai, but were driven back from Marigot. It is true though, from what I've heard, that we were driven back with some loss, but considering the amount of battles fought on that evening, one loss and one gain can hardly be considered a bad effort.
  19. (1) King Christian (IV) stood by the tall mast, in smoke and fume! His sword struck so firmly, that the Goth's helm and brain did burst! Then sank every enemy stern and mast in smoke and fume! Flee, they yelled, flee who can! Who stands against Denmark's Christian, who stands against Denmark's Christian, in combat? (2) Niels Juel heeded the crash of the storm: Now it is time! He hoisted then the red flag, and struck the enemy again and again. Then they screamed amidst the crash of the storm: Now it is time! Flee, they yelled, all who hiding knows! Who can stand against Denmark's Juel, Who can stand against Denmark's Juel, in battle? (3) Oh, North Sea! Glimpse of Wessel broke your darkened sky! Then warriors flocked to your bosom, for with him thundered fear and death! From the battlefield clamour broke the heavy sky: From Denmark thunders Tordenskjold. All submit to the power of the sky, All submit to the power of the sky, and flee! (4) You Dane's path to praise and power, blackened sea! Receive your friend, who undaunted dares meet danger with disdain, as proud as you against the storm's power, blackened sea! And brisk through noise and play and fight and triumph lead me to, and fight and triumph lead me to, my grave! - Johannes Ewald (1778) (Unfortunately the second verse is seldom sung for some reason, not in this version either)
  20. I think it would be nice if you wrote the when the relations were updated last. Here are the current relations of Denmark-Norway: Political Situation: - Spain: War - Great Britain: War (in the Greater Antilles) - Netherlands: Allied (DAS) - USA: Friendly - France: War (helping the Swedes) - Pirates: N/A - Sweden: War
  21. Glorious bump is glorious, I was just about to give you a friendly one to have you back on the first page, but you managed on your own. Cheers!
