  1. Very good! Then we're expecting two new captains to arrive at our station by tonight - or the weekend at latest. Fair winds!
  2. I don't think I've ever seen that second picture, do you know who painted it?
  4. The PotC Build Mod has a mode where you can sail in "real time" between the islands, that is, in 3D sailing mode; all the islands and distances are rescaled to make the sailing time realistic: you literally have to sail for hours (in-game days) between some islands - and plot your course carefully unless you have a chronometer and sextant - though it does have time-compression available as a toggle (possible as it's singleplayer only). I wonder if it would be possible to have something like this, though of course compressed sensibly, in Naval Action. There's nothing better in a sailing game when you see a sail on the horizon, wondering whether it's friend or foe, whether you should investigate or make a run for it, fly a neutral nation's flag just in case or go straight at it - or when you sight land after a long journey of tacking against averse winds. I think Naval Action could attract another kind of audience if "realtime" sailing was possible, perhaps on a separate server with ultra-realistic rules and settings?
  5. I think many people can't see the reason to play when they can't get better ships - especially people who, for various reasons, are not participating in the crafting (lack of resources, incentive, interest, etc.). A lot of us, including myself, really enjoy the line fighting, but this is not possible until people can get into ships of the line. I think more of the veterans would play if you could at least capture some of the bigger ships (all ships, I'd say), even if these were then lower quality. It would also make the PvE grind more interesting, with more variation. In terms of the arranged trafalgars, I follow what Booyaah's saying: the events can't entirely replace the old system right now. Perhaps they could be combined? All those that are interested and have time sail to a neutral port (Plymouth or, in my opinion even better, Island Harbour), but the event system is used for the first battle if possible - and people who are unable to get to the designated port can at least participate in that one. If it fails to initiate or more battles are wished for, it can be done in the old fashioned way.
  6. I do hope this gets redone soon. I can understand the reasoning behind some of the current anti-ganking features etc., but then again, I don't think the developers can keep people from doing what they want (and force them to test whatever feature is new at the moment - crafting in this case) - and for most people, I believe that is to shoot cannonballs into enemy ships without too much limitation and fuss... Personally I'd love to see most of these artificial balancing disappear: okay, if you get attacked within close range of your capital or very near to one of your nations port, there should be a possibility for support - then again, there should quite naturally be a few AI ships of your nation sailing around such waters, and the best option, I think, would be if any such ships/fleets that are within range would jump into the battle to support - instead of some magically appearing clones or whatever we have now (I also liked the capital fleets better before, when they were actually sailing on the map instead of magically appearing). Somewhat in connection with this, I hope the weird battle rating limitations gets removed, mostly because they're severely hampering the dynamics of group play - but also, partly as in the case above, for the sake of realism and logic.
  7. Added some external links (English articles from the Danish Royal Archive), mostly to compensate for the lack of material concerning St. Jan/John. All of the other material above is gathered from the archive of the Danish Maritime Museum of Elsinore.
  8. I don't like it. That is, I prefer the old one.

  10. Yes, come in and have a chat with us on TS or add one of the contacts on Steam. (Added the TeamSpeak to our contact details)
  11. At the least the English-speaking part of the Danish-Norwegian nation - or more specifically the group that goes under the name Vest-Indiske Escadre.
  12. He must consider himself "an overly politically correct historian" since he's using the term Danmark-Norge himself in other parts of the article.
  13. Kongeriget Danmark or simply Danmark would probably be the most most correct name, but since the Danish state consisted of two, at least formally, separate kingdoms, I think use of the term Danmark-Norge is acceptable (the king styled himself "King of Denmark and Norway, the Wends and the Goths, Duke of Slesvig, etc..."). Another acceptable name would be Kongeriget Danmark-Norge - of course the name has to fit a general standard, and unless the other states use similar forms (Konungariket Sverige, Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden, The United Kingdom, etc.), we should stick to the less formal Danmark-Norge.
  14. The Danish version(s) of the song ("When I was a Lad") from HMS Pinafore: With that in mind, perhaps we should go to sea soon. More activity is to be expected after the wipe!
  15. Yes, because Denmark and the Netherlands are such mountainous regions. This is the Danish "Sky Mountain":
  16. It's funny that you came up with this now. It so happens that there's been talk about something very much like this within the Dutch and Danish fleets. I wonder if making it entirely public is wise, but then again I wonder who'd be able to (and get enjoyment from) ruin(ing) an event with so many "big" players...
  17. These reflect the current state of my Naval Action playlist.
  18. Certainly. Membership is, in its current state, rather casual; this may change when the game is further in development and we have built a solid base for the squadron. I will send you the TeamSpeak details so you can come in and have a chat with us.
