  1. Not gonna comment on the repairs aspect. Chain spam is easier to do, but that only applies a generic speed reduction to the target. Dismasting tends to seriously unbalance a ship's rig, significantly limiting the ship's maneuverability via manual sail control. This was true in real life too, for example the five-masted clipper Preussen lost its foremast in a collision, and became unmanageable and sank as a result.
  2. If I had characters on both PVP and PVE servers prior to the wipe and I use some of the redeemables on the PVE server, will they still be available on the PVP server if I later start playing on that server again?
  3. Hi folks, Currently in instanced battles, when you zoom in close enough to your ship, your sails become mostly transparent, allowing you to maintain visibility while getting an almost deck-level view of the action. I find this view quite immersive and enjoyable, and would like to use in in OW as well. Unfortunately the sails do NOT turn transparent when I zoom in in OW. Please allow sails to turn transparent in OW, just like they do in instances.
  4. Excellent read, loved it! I'll have to come visit Mortimer Town again. Wouldn't want the Pirates getting bored up there
  5. Victor - I like your analysis. We British are well aware of how annoying the Spanish can be when you are at war with us. I sincerely hope that a lasting peace can be achieved. That said... try a Realpolitik evaluation of the situation from the British perspective. We also have a lot to gain from peace with the Spanish. We need all our ships to the East and the South, not up north fighting you. BUT - at this time, if Spain continues to fight us you have very limited targets to attack, making defense easy. Once we start returning ports to you, that strong defensive position is gone, and any betrayal becomes far more harmful to the British. We remember previous betrayals by the Spanish: unreasonable demands, impossible timetables, and attempts to take by force what would have been freely given with a little more patience. Were I a British diplomat attempting a fresh round of negotiations, I would want some demonstration that Spain can be trusted prior to returning ports. And if I were a Spanish diplomat, I would expect the same from Britain. For example, let us say that Spain and Britain agree to the return of all ports on Southern Cuba - AFTER a cease-fire period of 2 days. British proof of good intent would be changing the defense timer on one port to a window that the Spanish can attack, while Spanish proof of good intent would be waiting to take that port until the agreed-upon cease fire is complete. BOTH sides must demonstrate good will and true faith in small ways prior to any large sweeping agreements can be honored.
  6. I personally view the nation of Spain as a rabid chihuahua. Utterly insane, lots of yapping, but still has a bit of a bite. I would much rather fight the Pirates, or the Danes, or the Americans. Heck, just about any other nation would be preferable. But the Spanish nation has proven to be completely untrustworthy with even the most basic diplomatic agreements. If the only way to secure our rear areas is by wiping out the Spanish presence in the Gulf of Mexico, then so be it. If they still cannot act sensibly, then we'll drive them all the way back to Havana.
  7. First of all it's not *paying* customers, it's *paid* customers. This isn't a subscription service, so the Devs aren't losing any money by banning a blatant exploiter. Second, this isn't about capping that one port, or getting even. It's about whether such inappropriate behavior will be tolerated in the future. Because if something severe isn't done to the culprits this time, I can guarantee you that other people will be encouraged to find another exploit like this and abuse the crap out of it instead of reporting it. As far as I'm concerned this is no different than the damage farming exploit. It's an exploit, the user/users knew it was wrong, and they did it anyway.
  8. Hold your horses on throwing accusations around. While it is clear that the offender was using an alt (midshipman, 1 day old, highly improbable gold supply), we cannot tell for certain which nation this player is from. His actions certainly benefited Spain, but it could just as easily be a Pirate, Dane, US, or other nation player. Every nation has spies in other nations' teamspeaks, so it wouldn't be hard for ANYONE to find out about the attack and buy a troll/blocking flag.
  9. When dealing with potentially unknown crafters, it is common sense to expect some sort of collateral in trade for your materials. A fat pile of money, a similar ship, etc. Something to ensure that the guy doesn't run off with your goods. When trading you can always see what the other guy offers, and can either accept or decline. If the other guy insists on not giving you collateral, then go find someone else, because it's not worth the risk. What do you think will happen when these scammers reach an even higher level? They'll try to run off with all the mats (and payment) for a Santi. I would not risk it. No collateral, no trade. BTW, all the high-level crafters I know are prolific builders who are more limited by their crafting hours than by their supply of materials. I can reasonably expect them to have enough materials BEFORE my trade to make the ship I want, so all I am doing is refilling their stockpile, while funding their acquisition of more resources, and paying them to get more crafting exp.
  10. Constitutions fill an important niche. I wouldn't sail alone in a 3rd rate. It would get eaten alive by a small group of enemy players. A Connie, OTOH, is better able to give an accounting of itself. As a Flag Captain, I sail a Connie when I sail alone, a 3rd rate when I sail in a fleet. It's perfect where it is.
  11. I've seen several mentions of having surrender preserve the durability of your ship. The concern with this is, as you explained, duplicate ships. What if surrendering allowed you to preserve your ship's durability by ransoming it? for example, you get in a fight with an opponent and find yourself in a hopeless situation. To preserve your ship, you surrender. You lose the battle, along with any cargo onboard, and must pay the victor a prize of gold equal to the value of that dura. The victor gets the cargo and the prize money plus whatever gold/exp from the battle, but not the ship itself. If he wants to capture the ship so he can use it, he should have the option to reject the surrender and then disable and board it like now. No ships are duplicated, and surrendering gains immediate and meaningful value.
  12. I've been using Voice Attack since shortly after the OW was released. I love it! I still need to update my commands to match the most recent UI, and I'd love to compare and see what commands you are using. One of my biggest issues is forgetting the specific phrase used for a command, ie "port guns load single" vs "port guns load single shot" vs "port side load single". For the commands I screw up most often, I actually put several different ways to issue the same command. Very helpful. I actually wish the devs would add a feature to "neutral" the yards on a mast, so they turn parallel to the wind and continue to track as the ship turns (like auto-sails). This would make it much easier to set up combined commands for tacking, wearing, and other maneuvers.
  13. I rather doubt the Santi player's claims of crash and bug because he was issuing various commands throughout the boarding action, including counterattack, defend, and fire deck guns. His fight was very different from both Raatha's and from every AI boarding action I've fought. Again, neither player started at 0 morale, they started with nearly full morale and were reduced to 0 over several rounds of boarding. I don't know why Raatha's screenshot shows the results of several rounds combined into one but it probably is related to the crash to desktop and subsequent re-entry into the match. Yes, there are bugs here. But not the one Raatha is claiming. The crew repair bug and the weird way Raatha was shown the results are clearly wrong. I initiated the boarding action, so he should have re-entered the game already in the boarding screen. It also should have shown all of the rounds.
  14. Raatha, I initiated a boarding action against you and fought several rounds, inflicting severe casualties. Notice your crew in that screenshot. Your morale did *not* start at zero, it was reduced to zero during the action due to heavy casualties. Your ship attempted to disengage from the action after the 1st round, so I reasonably assumed that a human was still in control on the other end. You are also correct to notice that my crew appears unusually high. I used my surgeon shortly after taking command of the Santi, and it apparently restored the maximum crew it could restore, rather than the 700 crew I started with on my Pavel. That is definitely a bug.
  15. I am using Voice Attack to verbally command my ship. I have commands for "hard a starboard/port", "trim starboard/port", and "touch starboard/port". I regularly use the first one for full rudder deflection during battle instances, but the latter two commands only are useful in the OW. They are basically momentary deflections of rudder for minor course changes, with different durations of turn. If there were keys for half rudder deflection, I would assign verbal commands to them, but would rarely (if ever) actually use those commands. If I want a slow turn, I use full rudder deflection. If I want a fast turn, I trim my sails to add additional force to the turn.
  16. What would it take to volunteer for a cruise on one of these replicas? esp. to actually operate, not just be a passenger for a day cruise?
  17. I'll bet at least part of it is because they have only released a small portion of the full ship lists, ie only American carriers so far, Japanese battleships, etc. So they kinda have to mix things up in order to get balanced matches.
  18. Did anybody play the old NavyField, or the more recent NavyField 2? I recently tried World of Warships, and found that it felt somewhat like those games, with a better camera angle and fancier graphics...
  19. 28 going on 8. It's all about how old you act
  20. very beautiful models, gentlemen. But tell me, can your ships do this? HMS Victory 1:100 scale "conversion" maiden voyage <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TgHGXCpgjEk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> mock battle HMS Victory vs USS Constitution 1:96 scale <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j8ZcxjiH8ys" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> entangled <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-wxbU0j-czg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Constitution and Victory were quick and dirty RC conversions of plastic kits from my local model store to test the feasibility of RC warship combat under pure sail power. The regular sport uses WWI and WWII era warships, armed with ball bearing cannons and balsa wood armor, designed to fight, damage, and sink each other repeatedly. It looks sorta like this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wvugEmj3pO0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The sailing models were wildly successful. Constitution ran in the 2011 SFMYC warship regatta's maneuvering contest, and was both the only sail-powered entry and the only ship to complete the entire obstacle course without striking a single obstacle. She tacked, she wore, she reversed, and she crabbed sideways in her quest for the prize, and she outmaneuvered every electric boat on the pond. I have several 1:48 scale frigates in the early stages of construction for armed combat, rather than just proofs of concept. The larger models will be much easier to build and detail than the smaller ones.
  21. I am also having this problem. Mostly just a nuisance until you get to close combat, I have missed numerous broadsides (and taken quite a few in return) because it didn't return to auto when I wanted. Even got me sunk a couple times. I am not sure if it's registering multiple keystrokes, lagging inputs, or what. When I press the F key, I sometimes see it switch from Manual to Auto, then immediately switch back to Manual. Other times it doesn't even switch in the first place. Without more info about how the game processes control input, it's hard for me to figure out what exactly is going on. I haven't noticed if pressing other buttons contributes. I certainly am not pressing the manual sail controls, but I'm usually also straightening my rudder, changing sails, etc. I will pay closer attention next time I play.
  22. I am a big fan of the "I" boats. When the Royal Navy was naming their first battlecruisers prior to WWI, they came up with quite a long list. It started with impressive-sounding names like "Invincible" and "Indefatigable", but further down the list I found such comic entries as "Inconceivable", "Invisible", "Inflatable", "Inconsiderable", Inflammable, and Incircumcisable". I once named a tramp steamer the SS Silverfish. An even smaller smuggler was called Willie Maykett. For those of you who know the song, there's always the Good Ship Venus. My German destroyer Z-25 was "Der Zee-monster".
