  1. Oh my. That's a show stopper. I hadn't thought of that. F2P is totally out of the question then, even with reduced capacity.
  2. Digital Combat Simulator World provides the world and one free aircraft. Seems to work well. Free package could be the Open World with two outposts, 3 buildings, and 3 dock spaces. Enough to do everything, with patience.
  3. Resetting the map, if it involves wiping out players resources, ships, etc is the worse of all bad ideas.
  4. Well said Koltes. We take lots of risks with player to player trades. When a shipwright crafts a custom build the buyer may change his mind and refuse to pay. A trader takes an order, sources and buys resources, then transports them to a buyer who may refuse to pay the agreed price. A crafter makes labor hours contracts or repairs only to discover that buyer has stopped playing. These risks actually enhance the game by allowing options and creating opportunities. There is room for integrity and sculduggery. The satisfaction from trust fulfilled, outshines the disappointment of victimization. Paying to leave a battle would be a gamble. It's unlikely that a ransom would be offered if fleeing or winning the fight was an option. The choice is loss of everything or payment for the possibility to leave with something. These type of chances and options make the game richer.
  5. Enlightening. Thanks Farrago. It would be difficult to address this lack of risk.
  6. Farrago, my compliments for your explanation. I have never understood the nuances of the game mechanics in NA. Perhaps it is a cultural thing, because I don't see the harm in many of the interactions that excite and incite players. Like Alts. They seem like a good idea to me, they create revenue for Game Labs and provide unlimited options for players to have more outposts, dock space, resources, etc. I only have one account, but I can see the advantage and don't see the harm in having more. I just barely have enough time for one identity. I bought the Forger so that I could conduct monthly business ventures in alternate nations, but the DLC is much too restrictive to ever use it. Suffer my ignorance if you will: Why is it okay to trade with a player but the same trade with an Alt is somehow wrong, or quasi cheating? I still think that Admin wants to discourage international communication and interactions. The foundation of this game seems to be fighting with these beautiful ships. I would love to see more choice to trade and craft but doubt that more effort will be spent to improve either. The focus appears to be getting us to fight as much as possible, without relations with "the enemy". If enemies are not talking and trading with each other they will be fighting more. I'm not sure the Admin care about the trade use/exploits/abuse of Alts in OW or battles.
  7. How does the abuse work? I would love to trade internationally. Is it abuse when a Russian trades Copper Ingots to a Brit at a port? I don't see how that is cheating, so why would it be cheating if the Brit and Russian traded in OW or an instance?
  8. I think Raekur is correct. The culture of Naval Action is to promote and encourage combat with very beautiful ships. I doubt that mechanics will ever be set to encourage trade or ransom. I've paid attackers a few times to allow me to escape, but it is a hassle for them. We must meet at a free/neutral port to trade. If I could trade with enemy in OW I would carry combat marks to buy my freedom. Paying 3 CM marks, and some Reals, to continue sailing might be okay, depending on what is in the hold. But it ain't going to happen. NA is about lots of fights, often ... with minimal waiting .
  9. I have a Lynx that I use for very high speed trips, I don't use it for trading goods or resources. She is fast enough without books. My other ships are Traders Brigs, and I sail them most of the time. Occasionally I use Indiamans when sailing with other players. I use the war server and get attacked. I have some good speed books that would help me to flee. The increased speed would allow me to carry more in the hold and still be reasonably fast. The iincreased speed with Indiamans would help me keep up with other players I sail with. I like sailing and am not trying to reduce the time at sea. Some traders have different goals. They do want to reduce sailing time.
  10. Cause I like trading and fishing. Your sediment likely reflects why the devs have not coded some sort of reward for exclusive trading. Someday I hope to get some help and farm a lot of XP to open up the slots on my trade ships. Till then my books will remain mostly unused. Fighting is promoted. Trading, not so much.
  11. The suggestion is XP for trading. Not AFK sailing. Perhaps 1 trade XP for every 1,000 tons 5,000 tons we haul 200km. But the trade XP can only be used for speed and survival books.
  12. Great idea. It would help me. Perhaps we could gain trade-XP from the amount of stuff we transport, and the XP increases with distance traveled. Trade XP could be used for appropriate improvements; - survival, speed. Using fighting books could be limited to slots opened with combat XP. Always thought that I have no knowledge slots open in my trade ships cause they improve my crew's ability to fight. Opening slots is an incentive to fight.
  13. Entirely inappropriate and disrespectful to compare suffering or sacrifice to a game. My apologies in advance if I misunderstood your intent.
  14. That would be overkill. Most players destroy Salt often enough that typing in "destroy" would be too time consuming. Sometimes we need to destroy stuff fast (when throwing stuff overboard because we are being chased). Simple enough to just move the button away from "Split".
  15. I'm not a new player. But it seems that a couple times a year I screw up and delete something, instead of splitting it. I do lots of splitting to balance out the loads when trading and/or fishing. I destroyed a half a million reals worth of Hull repairs in an instant. Argggg. Once I accidentally destroyed 600 tons of Dorado. Another time I destroyed more than 2,000 Doubloons. Also 2,800 tons of Logwood. I sympathize with your pain. I trade a lot, and I'm clicking on the UI almost constantly. Every now and again a mistake happens and suddenly the wrong buttons have been selected. When we are clicking lots it's easy to just keep the flow going and click on "Confim". Then it is too late. I agree with the OP. It's my own fault. I seriously doubt that they are trolling us. I'm sure they have other priorities. I should be more careful, but it would be very kind if the @Dev would move the "Destroy" button down to the end of the list. I could live with accidentally clicking on the "Send to clan warehouse".
  16. Bummer. My condolences. I'm still liking the game. Although I'm more casual than ever. Don't have much time to game these days.
  17. I have fished alot . Mainly to create Provisions for our shipwrights. The Sealed Bottles were a pleasant surprise that raised a smile. Often there is not much reward in the shipwreck, but getting a bottle can be like sunshine. The prize in the Kinder-egg. It's sad to think some players hate this action if it's near a port. Perhaps an enemy AFK fishing could be viewed as an opportunity. It's not too hard to rush in and rage board when a player is AFK. I once lost a ship at the dock in Pedro Cay, in the time it took to make a hot drink. The raider explained that had been easy to capture and sink me. Check out this protected bay and its four forts. I've heard players planning group raids to harvest AFK fishermen deep inside enemy territory. That could be a risky and fun adventure on the WAR server. I don't think ruining AFK fishing for bottles will improve the game.
  18. Right on Macolm! It's almost impossible to figure out where you are, and communicate it, after you are being tagged. You need to know where you are at all times. If you can navigate without the GPS sextant perk, tracking your location is a process that you do continuously and it keeps you very busy. It's a lot easier when you can sight a landmark. But, because you keep track of where you are, you can Alt Tab to the grid map and note the co-ordinates even from inside the batttle. If you are using the GPS sextant perk, you can screen shot the ingame map quickly just before you are tagged, but even with the GPS sextant perk it is wise to always keep track of where you are.
  19. I think the intent of removing the F-11 coordinates was to make it harder for players to communicate their location. It is actually fairly easy if; you keep track of your position, AND your mates are able to do the same. But removing the F-11 made it difficult to communicate your location because most players cannot use a map with a grid: they need a simplified system - (Like the GPS Sextant perk). If you and your mates have a grid map and use the GPS Sextant perk it is very simple. Compare the ingame map to the grid map. You can also use NA-map but it takes a few seconds longer. Also, anyone with just a little skill at navigating can use the maps quickly without the GPS Sextant perk. I agree, there is no way to determine your position from inside a battle instance, unless you can see a landmark. Jamaica - Old Landmarks I
  20. Farrago, The NA rules are made for wolves NOT for sheep. They promote fighting. I'm guessing that a defensive tag -without cannon, is only okay if you allow yourself to be sunk or captured. It seems that you can defensively tag, with cannon, only if you fight and do not flee. I suppose you can defensively tag anytime ... if you fight. You may defensively tag ONLY once if you flee, but only if you exit the battle as soon as you are able. I think that staying in battle after you are able to leave is considered griefing if your opponent stays in the battle with you, but you are allowed to stay if your opponent decides to leave. It's very complex...if you try to flee. Keep it simple - Attack Always, with or without cannon.
  21. I'm not the best to give advise about XP. I got all mine from sailing. I have more than I need now. There has been lots of research into different types of gamers. Goes without saying that people are motivated differently, but you are wise to focus on enjoying the game. After all, what's the point in putting in hours, advancing towards a goal, if the gameplay is no fun. If the game seemed like a grind, I would log off...immediately.
  22. Do you have proof of why the servers were merged? Lots of people complained about the low population after server2 was removed.
