  1. The only way I know to fight people who only want to run is to bait them into a battle with something tempting like a trader or a lone lineship. It requires a lot of coordination though to get the support units in before the 2.5 minute lock-out. I do feel that with the invisibility and speed boost, stern and bow chasers should be restored to the original accuracy settings. No need to give someone THAT much opportunity to escape anymore.
  2. Ah-Ha! I knew France was stronger than the USA. You guys was only playin' dead.
  3. I was under the impression pirates were already a long-term enemy. Anyway, as I said it is a moot point. The new conquest mechanics have pretty much neutered the US from ever becoming an offensive force, and there's no need or practical benefit for us to work with Swedes or any other nation to try to flip ports anymore. We'll be lucky to craft enough first rates to hold the few regions we have before someone takes them. I certainly don't blame pirates for behaving like pirates, hell, the USA might be forced into a bit of pirate-like tactics ourselves if port battles are no longer feasible. Still, I've seen no effort from the USA to do any hostility raising in the Bahamas for nearly a month now. You speak as if we were screening for the Swedish and so that's why you lost the ports--which is nonsense. It's more likely when you left Ays and took the fleet out to sea to hit Little River, you left the back-door wide open. Nothing is more true in this game regarding the risk of spreading your forces too thinly. Even the most populated factions will take a beating when they are stretched to the limit. I'm certain the Swedes have more than enough players to do it all themselves without the help of a dozen US players. Or, at least until war broke out with the Dane. It has certainly made the situation more interesting, and now it is perhaps the Swedish who have spread themselves too thin. Time will tell.
  4. As has been stated in other threads, the only purpose of the Swedish-America coordination efforts was to get conquest marks flowing for the USA again by flipping Wilmington. However the Swedes and the Americans had no idea the developers would completely change the system the very next day or we would never have bothered to work together on that. When a pirate fleet showed up outside Little River to interfere with the hostility-raising, it only made sense that USA and the Swedish clan members who offered to help with the effort should work together to sink your fleet so the plan could be completed. We have ships and buildings to liberate at Ays, nothing more. Once that is over you have your war with Sweden, the USA has no alliance with them and will not interfere. However this latest development between Sweden and Denmark might make it very interesting and I would say that pirates have a better chance than ever to reclaim some of those lost regions.. Over-expansion will ruin any nation regardless of how large they are. Perhaps if pirates had been in the Bahamas instead of poking their noses into business far north at Little River, the Swedes would have had a much harder time even raising hostility around Morgan's Bluff and Nassau to begin with, but it is hard to defend something when you are on the other side of the map..
  5. Oh come now, if anyone got screwed with the new system, it's the USA, lol. France is getting more control points per day and they don't even have any players.
  6. As the other US player on PVP EU I can confirm that no alliance exists. I only joke, there's actually 4 of us.. We took a vote as a nation, 2 in favor of alliance and 2 against. Fortunately the president showed up and broke the tie by voting for no alliance. The debate was tense, and the American Civil War almost started early, and estimates are that at least 50% of our population would have died in a war that would have lasted a grueling 30 minutes. Had the vote gone the other way, the Swedes would be well on their way to adding 0.0000000000000000001% to their current fighting strength with the formation of such an alliance, and I can fully understand why this would alarm the pirates. No one faction on the server should have that much power.
  7. Problem with longer invisibility timers is that people learned to exploit it. Time will tell how people manage to exploit this new mechanic, but for now, let us pray that we get to have nice things. I've long felt that escaping in battle means you . . well, escaped lol. We'll see if it's enough to make both sides happy.
  8. If you pop it right before boarding your crew will fight with a bottle in one hand and a cutlass in the other. Personally I think it should stop because there's a time for fighting and a time for drinking. If anything, being drunk should make your crew less efficient fighters.
  9. Instead it will probably board you and take all the ships, lol.
  10. It's the robots. PVE server guys save yourselves!!!! They've already taken out all the humans on our servers and they'll be coming for you next.
  11. I think a lot of people who wanted to continue to fight the same wars as before the wipe still assume that the dynamics are the same. One thing I'm loving most about the wipe is that it has turned everything around. Swedes, used to be a fairly small and active nation which used it's position as a minor "kingmaker" to try to even up the alliances, now finds that it is a superpower on the server. Pirates have erupted into civil war and with the new mechanics allowing them to attack each other, it's harder than ever to guarantee they can keep everything together and focused. Britain is not the zerg it once was, however I do not think they are as helpless as they pretend to be. Etc. etc. It has really shaken up the former bonds but yet we still people wanting to fight the same fights on the same pretenses. The wipe should have been an opportunity to re-examine the strengths of nations and reform alliances accordingly, but, although many of us have been asking for years of open world, there is still no official display of each nation's numbers so no one ever knows for sure that they are making a balanced choice.
  12. Everyone is wrong. Join PVE and help against the bots who plot to take over the server. We humans should not be fighting amongst ourselves while Skynet becomes self aware.
  13. It humbles me to say it but if Spain hadn't looked the other way while we 'took' some of florida on PVP EU, we'd be getting no conquest marks at all, lol. We've almost got a full PB fleet. I'm loving the challenge though. Judging by the map above, I think I'd probably choose Spain if I were on PVP Global. Viva el underdogs.
  14. Given the 34 knot open-world speed of the Endymion and the series of armor nerfs the connie has been suffering over the past week, I'd go with the endymion. Many here in the US joke that if they keep nerfing the constitution then they might as well make it a 5th rate. It really doesn't stand up to anything in its own class, and would be over-powered in a lower class. But then again the 5th rates could probably be split between heavy and lighter frigates.
  15. There's a difference between long-and-drawn-out fights and indestructible. We already brought back multiple repairs. ok, fine, it's a money sink I suppose. But multiple repairs + masts that take no damage due to their thickness out-matching all but the heaviest of cannons seems to be pointing us back to the pre-wipe ironclads that so many people got disgusted with.
  16. It's now easier to dismast a ship with raking ball than it is to actually shoot the mast. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with the developers. Either you buff things to the point of being downright silly, or pour on the weak-sauce. Cannons are already starting to feel like pop-guns and paint-scratchers again, and I'm concerned what will happen when people start putting mast-boosting refits on their ships. One of the reasons I came back is due to the new damage model making cannons feel powerful again. Sad to see we're back-tracking already.
  17. I wonder if cannon accuracy is more of the issue than the strength of the masts. I think the strength of the mast is about right as it is in the game, especially with multiple repairs available. I also agree that there should be some strategic benefit to using battle sails.
  18. Conquest has slowed down tremendously with a new patch, compared to what it was. I don't think it's a bad thing. Granted those first few days moved quickly but fronts were still being established. Pushing those fronts should be much slower.
  19. Gonna try it. If that's how it works, then 'I regret that I have but one like to give for your post.' Thank you. [And sorry to the OP for running off on this topic but its pretty bad when veterans to the game are having a hard time understanding the process for a rather critical game mechanic now, I've got a ton of rumors to put to rest now in the US nation, lol]
  20. Sink through the boarding interface? Because once a ship raises the white flag it no longer takes damage unless that was changed in the wipe patch.
  21. Then clarify this then, please: Do you have to actually sink the ship? There's just too much confusion and rumor in the US nation about certain ships not giving marks, because sometimes we get them and some times we don't. Is it necessary to deal damage first to the enemy ship? Meaning if you are using chain and get no hull hits does it count if you board? I understand you can't both get marks and capture the ship, but if you capture the ship and don't keep it, sometimes it doesn't give marks and it's possible it's my imagination but it seems to depend on the ship. Is this a bug? Can a developer verify the information from Remus above?
  22. On the point of PVP marks, I'm having some confusion over what ships grant marks and which ones don't. Is there a thread for that info, because putting 'pvp marks' in search gives me about 10,000 irrelevant hits on that subject. I'm getting concerned because as a PVP EU, USA player on the second smallest and farthest faction away from the action, don't get me wrong, I DO appreciate a challenge. But the odds of us ever getting PVP marks are getting pretty slim to none. We've been shot in the knee caps with the restrictions and now supposedly they are taking about expanding the list of ships that don't grant PVP marks. Devs, please, you're killing us. I've spent the last 3 days making the daily sail down to . . . where the action is, and on the off chance that I actually DO manage to find another player, they might be in a ship too small to earn a mark if it is sunk, or too big to risk having to sail home in a basic cutter for nothing. I understand the theory behind not granting marks for the 7th rates, to prevent 'baby seal clubbing' and there are valid arguments to be made there. But PVP is PVP. When you are looking to go south fast, you want to take something fast, and your most viable targets are going to be small, fast ships. But apparently you get NOTHING for that if you get into a scrap. Then you either survive and return home empty-handed or you sink and you sail back to wherever you came from in a basic cutter because TP to capital is gone, and that's it for the day. As far as I'm concerned the only ship that shouldn't grant marks for sinking others or being sunk is the basic cutter. It's a starter ship whose only purpose should be to transport defeated captains to their burial sites and help new players into something better. In less than 24 hours, we're about to be in the same situation as some of the British players, getting more conquest marks than PVP marks. The only difference between us and the Brits in that case is that they will have actually built ships requiring PVP marks. God willing, we'll be rolling out our first connie by the end of the week, a ship most nations don't even craft anymore because they're up to something better. You're killing us. The yanks don't mind fighting for these marks, but it'd be nice to get marks for whatever we fight. I will say I'm very proud thus far of the US faction's willingness to pitch in, because the USS Constitution will have been a national effort, no doubt, but we're starting to feel like a family of beggars who hit the street corners in the morning, meet up home at end of the day, and dump their pennies on a table to see if they can come up with a dollar.
  23. Pirates acting like pirates? Finally? After two years of us begging the developers to make pirates something a bit more challenging? On a serious note, if you see someone being verbally abusive in game, then they should be reported. But enforcing one's will through force is entirely barbaric and uncivilized. Therefore, appropriate for pirates. France is recruiting.
