  1. Captains. We plan to deploy the gun rework soon. Here is the short description for the review and discussion Goals for the rework Gun roles Gun roles will remain but they will be slightly improved in their roles Long guns/Navy Guns - Strong Penetration Effective range for 42lb - 1km Medium guns/Blomfields - Balanced penetration and DPS Effective range for 42lb - 700m Congrieve/Edinorogs - Strong DPS Effective range for 42lb - 500m Carronades/Obusiers - Effective range for 42lb - 250m Effective range meaning Gun will penetrate non-upgraded ship at this distance at 90 degrees hit angle. Penetration drops will be improved based on historical penetration drops but with effective ranges defined. Range control. Every gun will have a role (even 4lb). All guns should be able to penetrate a fully upgraded ship hull and masts at 100m as they could historically. Including smallest calibers. Heaviest guns penetration ranges will strongly improve. Every gun will have defined effective range both for masts and for hull Thickness - Masts vs Hull Thickness difference for masts and hulls will be reduced for ships, with effective distance of operation in mind. Thickness difference between some classes will be reduced or removed Thickness for masts will be rebalanced for range - but ALL upgraded masts will be somewhat vulnerable at close range Upgrades for hull and masts will not give invulnerability but instead will reduce or increase effective safe range. Accuracy Accuracy will be finally rebalanced (including for tracking shot) Accuracy will grow with caliber as defined by the Treatise on Gunnery and other historical sources on Ordnance. Overall the changes will do the following Bring range back into play Define effective ranges better Reduce thickness inflation and make it work gameplay wise Make more guns usable (including small calibers) Provide clarity on masts and thickness penetration in terms of range. The list is not final and will be updated based on questions and comments. ETA - 1-3 more days. update. Taking longer than expected. Some data for review.. 24LB Old curves 24LB New curves Curve is not final and might get flattened a bit to give more control over distances for various guns. On average 15cm thickness should reduce effective range of you being penetrated by 200m Base un-upgraded thickness for oak 95-100 - lineships/3rd rates 85-90 - 4th rates/frigates 70-75 - 6th rates and unrated Masts will probably start at 105 for unrated and 150 for a first rate (gap might become lower - but need more internal testing)

  4. resistance, hardness.. They resist cannonballs, harder to break. But when they break they splinter easier. While soft wood is easier to penetrate, but it does not break as energy just passes through.
  5. I think you are mistaken in how you are approaching the calculations and thus you think its 16%. Its not 16%. You are just approaching it literally - thinking that muskets have 10% accuracy Basic muskets accuracy (determining the damage) is 1x. So base musket damage is multiplied by 1x. If you use a better musket with better accuracy - lets say 60% your base damage will be modified by 1+0.6 = 1.6x. So if the base number is 10 then without upgrades it will be multiplied by 1x or 1.6 depending on you upgrades. If base number is 20 then it is still multiplied by the accuracy bonus modifier. Base number depends on the amount of crew with muskets and the amount of marines (who generally shoot slightly better). We can argue about the general musket damage if it is high or low historically, but the bonuses are working properly. Increasing the base hit rate thus increasing damage.

  9. Баланса нет. Орды всегда больше, или альянса - как не старайся Вот если бы океан был только у французов а сантисима только у испанцев вот тогда надо было думать а балансе. А тут в бою все равно будет только 25 игроков. И если у какой то нации больше игроков то это заслуга нации и ее лидеров, так же как факт того что в еве пол нулей контролировал один альянс много лет была заслуга руководителей того альянса. На вопрос "давайте подрежем многочисленной нации ноги" мы всегда будем говорить нет, колхоз не хотим. Текущий шторм мы пересидим. В отличие от прошлого раза. Рейты дорожают и это правильно

  11. как раз этого не видят игроки повышение цен отличное изменение и экспоненциальную прогрессию цены дпс и живучести надо было вводить два года назад Шоковая терапия конечно плохо но лучше по частям хвосты не отрубать команда будет сделана в таком же стиле как и пушки мы писали как то - что динарк и реверс будет и на оаке всех топить а знатоки баланса как тонули так и будут тонуть с калькуляторами в руках

  15. 3% thickness on frame difference 6% total between teak vs white oak will think about it.
  16. we tried multiple options back and forth (my hand hurts) but this one works best as it does not give unbalanced options. For example if some strong wood has a speed penalty - if a speed penalty on planking is smaller than on frame people will pick planking for the strong bonus and will choose another frame. We will see if this is a good way over time by buffing underused woods. There might be some changes in the future in stats BUT the relative balance from now on will remain the same. for example riga fir will always be faster than fir(s) (the difference maybe bigger or smaller) but relative balance will always remain. We will try hard to keep it the same no matter what.
