  1. Islamorada - 4800 BR Pirates Successfully Defend vs French The Battle in Brief - Pirates defended the port via circle control, with limited but fierce fighting by the light squadrons on both sides. One mortar brig was sunk on the French side. Good evening all, It was my honor to command the the port battle for Islamorada on December 6th at 05:08 server time. Pirates deployed their main squadron as westward as possible, in order to take their best wind position. The French main squadron deployed southwest of the Pirates and circle C (west), taking the wind advantag

  3. This forum is really boring lately. Let's talk about ships. See post from @Malachi below, concerning the Constitution as a step forward in evolution. So the only critical thing I've read concerning the sailing characteristics of the live oak super frigates was in Gardiner, but he didn't bother explaining himself. Seems like enormous frigates need to be balanced just right in order to shine, and the Americans had the skill and good fortune to be successful their first time around, albeit after years of tinkering. And a lot of cheap repeat Ledas notwithstanding, the rest of the world

USS North Carolina, American 94 Gun Ship of the Line, 1820 Launch, 1824 Commission The USS North Carolina was an American, 94 Gun, Ship of the Line which was launched on September 17, 1820, and officially deployed on June 24, 1824. The North Carolina would serve as one of the toughest ships in the American Navy. It would fit the position of one of the first American Ship of the Line, and would categorize it between the Victory and Santisima, and with only a slight advantage over the L'Ocean. Barring occasional experiments, such as L'Indien, which as an American privateer was armed with 36-pdrs. In that context, the Bellonas have the distinction of consistent success under sail, while most operators of oversized frigates struggled to get things right (the Americans included, given Constitution's various alterations and several decades of poor performance by United States). On the other hand, the Bellonas are also something of a middl

Considering that: This reconstruction can start now. To be more accurate and go to the facts, it is necessary that the organization of the French faction IG rises again, or can be born again after the end of the CNSF that only our most ancient players have known. 14. So, as much as I enjoy sailing my 14.6kn Victory (thats loaded with tons of repairs, if I lighten it up some, I can easily go over 15kn), something needs to be done about the silly speed-cap we have. Easy fix: Remove speed cap completely. It is silly and as long as it is in place, people will be gunning for that cap. Pre-wipe, I had a Renomme doing over 17 knots, but I rarely sailed it because my 13.8 knot Live Oak Constitution or 14.2 knot Cedar Bellona was more than adequate for me to catch or out-run the average ship I'd find. Now if my ship doesn't do 15+ knots or have a super-a

  16. Something really weird happened during the PB of Las Sabinas. Our mortar was trying to destroy the enemy fort, which was next to the port, and his shots "collided with" the air. I don´t know if this has already been reported but I think it´s important enough to be posted here. I didn´t manage to send a F11 report because I had to pay attention to the battle. 17. /rolleyes The US proved itself a threat to "lone frigates of the largest naval power of the time." You think no one had ever taken a British frigate before? And did the British also "mutilate" a 64 when Indefatigable became one of the most decorated frigates in the navy, and the only frigate to destroy a ship of the line? British naval power receded? You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? The British didn't refrain from going to war with the United States because they were scared of our navy... And the USN was downright anemic for much of the 19th Centu

  20. Uninspiring? This ship is gorgeous compared to the santisma and l'ocean which looks like an emaciated shoe and an ugly bathtub respectively. We can put any armament we want on it in game to balance it. I would rather sail something sleek like this than ships that look like the Santi and ocean. The only nice looking 1st rate we have is the victory.

I wasn't aware of the Swedes or Russians having 24lb frigates either from your earlier post so thank you for letting me know about those too. Then again its not so surprising the Ruskis had massive cannons, they seem to have a thing for large calibres, maybe it was something to do with their rivalry with the Ottomans. Once the timer expire and the second mission goal open up, move at least 3 bde's of infantry supported by artillery to the bridge on the right and ambush the Union forces. 26. Technically, the first purpose-built french 24-pounder frigates were La Pourvoyeuse and La Consolante (both launched 1772) by Jacques Boux, who also designed the huge L' Indien. Just as her 'spiritual' successors 20 years later, they were designed for commerce raiding in the Indian Ocean. Boux made them larger than any frigate in the french or british navy - the first proper 18-pounder frigate was launched eight years later - to ensure that they can overpower any british frigate escort or even engage smaller 50 or 64 gun ships of the line under favourable circumstances. But as Boux fell out o

  27. You´re a mean, mean man, monsieur maturin Don´t get me wrong, I have nothing against the Connie per se. She was a very well designed piece of naval architecture, perfectly suited for the needs of the US Navy at the time. Additionally, her commanders always had the good sense to stick to her job description - rofl-stomp smaller vessels and run from the bigger ones. So her near-mythical status is understandable - from an US point of view. But if you look at her class in the context of frigate development, she´s just one of the many steps in the 'escalation of calibres' (Boudriot) that took

So we could get the same ability to sometimes avoid some friendly fire or get a better angle ourselves. Maybe J or Y key could be assigned for it. Also a 5(?) second cooldown could be added to avoid spamming it for sniping maybe.

  31. I know what you were trying to say, but experienced players will have everything they like within a short time after a wipe. That was the point I was making. You might get a couple days of un optimized ships before the good players get set up again. Imho wipes just make it harder on newer folks because they have to compete with experienced folks for upgrades and books. I got most of what I wanted right after the wipe because I ripped off people who had no idea the value of what they had. Wipes don't level the playing field at all, they merely accentuate the differences between rookies and expe

  33. I just tested this myself last week, with 2 units of 24 6pdr fields. They were placed next to each other and both had a colonel as boss. One had the Logistics trait and one did not. But... they both ran out of supply at the same time. And yes, it means all the ammo-traits are useless. So I re-traited all my artillery and gave them a better trait, using the use-up-all-men-by-creating-cheap-units-and-then-disband-all-two-star-units-and-remake-them technique. (I did not tested the ammo trait for corps commanders, that's a lot harder to set up).

Frankly the meta is broken. I'm not exactly sure what was wrong with the previous speeds we had before the wipe. The only 2 mods you had were copper plating and speed trim......somehow PVP felt more balanced. You didn't have speed built lineships (that can repair every 10mins) outpacing surprises or light frigates. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm hello kittying tired of PVP constantly revolving a

I’d recommend one closest to where you will call home in the new nation. 2. You can close all your outposts in your present nation’s ports. You can keep those in Freeports. 3. Go to one of your Freeports. 4. Redeem a forged paper. It will now be in your warehouse. Right click on it to use it. Choose your new nation. You WILL NOT be able to change your character’s name.
