cristianus_quintus_1699.jpg

Christianus Quintus
length 146 ft, width of 38 ft, and a depth of 13 feet and 9 inches
armed with 84 guns and a crew of 567 men.

Fredericus Quartus 1699 was one of  the largest ship in the world in her time ,

and  largest in Danish Navy ever.
She was 1695 laests (c.3400 t.) displacement.
Dimensions were : 185 x 50 x 21, draught was 20-2/22-2(22-6) ft.
Guns:28-36, 28-18, 28-12, 20-6, 6-4 = 110 (1992 lb.)
The crew was 950 men.

They where both fought in The battle of Køge bay.
The Christianus Quintus was the SOL of the 2st Squadron ,
and the Fredericus Quartus was in the 1st Sqadron i think, not as SOL thou.

the Fridericus Quintus also fought in that battle.

But i cant find any more build drawing than those you got, i have tried. :/
If i find more i will make sure to  post :)

Yeah, but the British gave their ships inspiring names like Indefatigable, Renown, Victory, etc; the French gave their ships, well, various names that sound very French ( :P); the Spanish used a bunch of religion-based names afaik; and most of what the Danish could come up with for a ship name was one of two names followed by a number? lol

Its really confusing looking into danish ships. Because in denmark there is a long and old tradition of kings being named either Christian or Frederik, so many ships was named Christianus or Fredericus. That tradition still lives today

As fare as I know the larges ship in the navy, the flagship, was named after the current King. And since they are named Frederik and Christian the ships are named that too...

Also the tradition is no longer in use.

The 3 frigates are named:

Iver Huitfeldt, Peter Willemoes og Niels Juel. all of em naval heroes.
And the two (larger) command and support ships are Absalon and Esbern Snare. (both important men from the mid 12th century)

The thread says 1753, but that ship sure doesn't look like a 18th century ship, and late 1600's dates float around for it in posts.  Confused?  So am I...

Lovely ships, but going to say again, IMHO the devs need to concentrate on a tighter era of ship technology.  These ships did not sail with or against Napoleonic era vessels.  If they are included, I would hope that the devs would establish a time-line server where ship style and tech would evolve.  Otherwise, including these lump sum would amount to a WoT world...

I belive Fredericus Quartus would be able to hold its own vs pratically anything you throw at her.

But it is from 1753. The Dano-Norwegian navy, like many other monarchies decorated their ships very ornately.

These ships did not sail with or against Napoleonic era vessels.

I believe the devs have stated the time limit is 1650-1810, give or take a few years. I for one couldn't get behind the devs focusing on a 16 year period of ships as opposed to the entire age of sail.

Otherwise, including these lump sum would amount to a WoT world...

The current line up of ships is already very varied, timeline wise, but I wouldn't say It's a WoT world.

This is the HMS Victory one of the alpha´s best ship, And fougth in the biggest naval battle of the Napolic wars as SOL

Set in the ocean 1765

with 104 cannons

HMS_Victory.png

And this is the Fridericus Quintus, set in the ocean 1753.

d971.jpg

They are incredible similar, and only 14 cannons in difference.

The only think that different is that these ships are made in a very baroque¨ish style, too show of for other kings as a symble of power and wealth.

So im pretty sure they would easy hold up agienst ship form the napolic era

The best information we have on the time frame is:

We definitely stop at 1820 mark yes. +-5 years.

Initial model line up range from 1680 till 1820.

Going earlier than that might make line battles look strange (with old galleons alongside modern 2nd rates)

In the Player selected ship 2015 - Suggestions-thread, @admin mentioned: 1600-1830 hard limit, 1690-1790 preferred. But many feel that 1830 is stretching it.

Ships currently confirmed to be in the game range from 1715 (Ингерманланд/Ingermanland) to 1820 (Меркурий/Mercury).

Hope this helps,

~Brigand

Ups. Sorry about that.

You are correct.

Christian I 1448-1481
Hans 1481-1513
Christian II 1513-1523
Frederik I 1523-1533
Christian III 1534-1559
Frederik II 1559-1588
Christian IV 1588-1648
Frederik III 1648-1670
Christian V 1670-1699
Frederik IV 1699-1730
Christian VI 1730-1746
Frederik V 1746-1766
Christian VII 1766-1808
Frederik VI 1808-1839
Christian VIII 1839-1848
Frederik VII 1848-1863
Christian IX 1863-1906
Frederik VIII 1906-1912
Christian X 1912-1947
Frederik IX 1947-1972
Margrethe II of Denmark 1972-

Current crownprice is named Frederik and his oldest son is named Christian. So the mess with the 6th Frederik being followd by the 8th Christian will be solved.

So we get:

Frederik X

Christian XI

I think they are not all that similar. Sure, they are both three deckers and if you only look at the gun count, the difference isn't all that large.

The hull of the Fridericus Quintus is a bit more bulky, something which would influence her ability to sail close to the wind, but I don't think the difference is pronounced enough to make a huge difference.

The sail plans however are a world apart: the most obvious difference is the lateen on the Fridericus Quintus for which the HMS Victory as a (gaff) spanker. Next come the size of the sail, the victory has smaller sail, which enable easier handling and finer control of the amount of canvas set. The total sail area for the HMS Victory is larger and altogether more modern. It thin that all the differences combined, I would definitely say they are not all that comparable. But then again, I don't see a need for them to be comparable either.

The hulls of many dane-norwegian ships where a bit more "bulky" or wide.

meant to keep it very stable and would not heel over as much as other ships when under full sail,

designed for operating in shallower waters, witch there is a lot of the in Baltic Sea.

And could be fun to have ingame as a variant to the british and frence witch sailed more north atlantic ocean

In this case I was referring to height above the water line. In other words: the Fridericus Quintus has more bulk above the waterline.

Also, I'm not advocating against her, or at least no more than I'm advocating against anything with more than, say, 48 guns. But that is just me, I like the small ships.
