[WIP] La Proserpine 3D model of a french 18pdr frigate

hello everyone,

 

Thought I'd drop my progress of this french frigate here, there is still a lot to be done but here's where I'm at so far.

Atm the hull + rigging and masts is 90k triangles.

Here are some screenshots from the ship in marmoset toolbag, it's a program showing how a 3d model would look in a game engine so no fancy vray renders hehe.

 

 

I also made some cannons and swivels which are on the ship, here are some renders of them.

I still need to add some rigging and one more mast piece and dont mind the stern either I'm gonna make it less boring and add some sculpts to it, also gonna try making a figurehead.

I hope you guys like it, could use some feedback on the textures too btw.

I think it looks fantastic, like one of the models in the game. This may be my semi-colorblindness talking here, but the stripe along the gun port and the other accents of the same color look almost pink, and it's really off putting. I can't tell if it's supposed to be unpainted wood, but it kind of looks like the Breast Cancer Awareness Frigate.

 

All in all, beautiful ship.

For my eyes it's a lot less pink than the ingermanland in game.

yep no coincidence I wasnt playing naval action full time anymore well the san fernando had a wrong blueprint and would need a big rework, who knows someday ill finish that ship. I actually really would have loved to do a good model of the panteleymon victoria too, it's such an amazing looking vessel.

It's the one from the picture indeed, she later got captured by the brits and renamed amelia.

Beautiful frigate, but I don't think she would have the cabin on the quarterdeck in wartime.  You can see that 4 guns on the quarterdeck would be unusable.  It was not uncommon for warships to have additional structures for crew comfort on weather decks in peacetime.  Also ruins her beauty!

ooh that is an excellent figurehead i might just model that one thnx! gonna be hard to get it to look right low poly though.

As for the cabin, actually there are carronades where the cabin is which take up way less space. But I haven't modeled one yet.

She does have 4 stern chasers I forgot to put cannons in the lower gun ports

I believe your drawings are from the 1809 proserpine from a different class, there are massive differences both at the bow and stern shape. But I might spice up my stern a bit with these kind of decorations though. But then again it must be historically accurate.

Pretty sure those are not gunports. (This is an error made on several ships in game already: Surprise, Renommee, Brig). Should probably be closed, also.

Yeah that makes sense, although 4 cannons in the stern would be awesome it unfortunately isn't accurate. I'll put a lid on them. thnx for pointing that out

Cause the picture Malachi posted is from la prosperine, is a british design.

 

Comparing her to the Trinco. I like La Prosperine so much more. Without those over prominent bulwarks she looks much sleeker..

(Since Trinco(Leda class) is basically a copy from the french Hebe class)

she's hebe class indeed with the 18 pdrs, I prefer this one over the trinc too.

When all the carvings are gonna be in place this is gonna be a beauty hehe
