Cannons

I was at Fort Anne, in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. and i`ve found a french canon. I included picture of it, i assume it was maybe a 9 lbs, I found it hard to guess the caliber.

I also assume that cannon to either be a replica or something imported for the reconstruction of the site. Fort Anne was french until 1710 when Port Royal, and the rest Acadia was given to the English who renamed it Annapolis Royal. The canon as the date 1756 engraved, I know it`s french because the words `la Rugissante` (the roaring one) are inscribed and the phrase `Utlima Ratio Regum` (the final royal argument) which is a phrase  Louis XIV had engraved on his canons and i noticed also on canons at Les Invalides in Paris.

Any idea what caliber they are.

It is difficult to gauge with these photos. He would have had to take some measures. Since the diameter of the mouth, or barrel length, etc.

But at first seen, it is indeed a French bronze cannon, used in the seventeenth century.

Here are the French seventeenth calibres:

4-pdr, 6-pdr, 8-pdr, 12-pdr, 18-pdr, 24-and 36-pdr pdr.
