Little things you'd like to see

WHERE ARE ALL THE NICE SHIPS ?

Did anyone notice, that we see some ships all the time (SURPRISE, ENDYMION, RENOMMÉE) - and others hardly ever
on the OPEN WORLD (BELLE POULE, TRINCOMALEE, CHERUBIM) ?

Should there not be the whole variety of ships - each with it's own strengths? Can this be achieved?

Not sure. But instead of such UPGRADES like the "Book of Five Rings", we could have BOOKS for each ship, perhaps?
The BOOKS would do no absurd SPEED-Upgrading for ANY ship - they just upgrade the strengths, that the ship already has.

Example: the BELLE POULE is not a hunter (not enough SPEED, no FRONT CHASERS).
Her strength is a rounded hull, from which cannon balls often just bounce off .

Now, this effect could be even upgraded with the right BELLE POULE-UPGRADES, or even a complete "Book of BELLE POULE" -
without any downgrading of other points like SPEED !

The SURPRISE on the other hand is fast, agile, and it can sail harder on the wind.
Now improve that even with a "Book of SURPRISE" - but not her HEALTH or SIDE ARMOR points, or mast thickness.
Upgrade her strengths, but keep her weaknesses. That way, she would remain very vulnerable compared to the BELLE POULE
or the CHERUBIM, for example, while those two would have a much better defending quality.

Why not try it out - a "Book of CERBERUS", a "Book of TRINCOMALEE", a "Book of WAPPEN VON HAMBURG" etc. etc.

Wouldn't we get quite individual ships, all with their "personal strengths" - and hopefully see them all more on the OPEN WORLD?

The chipping away of planks and holes in the side of the hull instead of just round indentations would be fantastic.

On a more morbid note, when your ship receives a broadside a few crew members getting blown back (nothing unrealistically huge) would make the experience much more immersive.

Finally, a captain!

I would like to put a lasso around ships in the OW, and have all of their ship info come up (next to each ship) if they are inside the lasso.  Not just one at a time with an exact mouse click.  Tired of clicking on every ship in sight individually, so a lasso would be real handy.  Your OW at a glance.

For immersion purpose, it would great to change the word ''clan'' to ''squadron'' or ''fleet'', especialy with the incoming clan PB's.

Also, please allow the apostroph in the character's name! :)

Our clan can bring 2 fleets comprising of multiple squadrons. ;)

Would like to be able to jump to another ship in your fleet and take control if your original ship is sunk or captured, rather than have to sit and watch the battle on the map while your NPC fleet blunders through the rest of the battle.

Also a bit more control of said NPC fleet, being able to tell your ships to de-crew, board, stand off or close action.

Would like to see special skins (we already had ship paint, hadn't we?) so players can give ships individual touch ... maybe make them availiable through market (sell them) like it is in CS GO. Don't get this wrong: I do not mean mods, only slight variations in colour, maybe slight variation of sails colour too. It would be nice -- when you pull another ship in battle -- to recognize that this might be the ship you lost yesterday to another player by boarding ... :)

Inside a battle group, could players have a capability to change the red flag in blue,  red, yellow, etc.

So that there could be several squadrons, easily identified, for the leader. Battle instruction could be: "Red squadron, heading 315. Blue squadron focus BobTurner."

Battle group leader and squadron leaders to be easily identified by a mark (like admirals).

Also advisable the possibility to replace or change the battle group leader.

It would be nice to see a bit of customization for your ships so you can really personalize it. I understand that the devs have already declined the ability to rename ships but something like customization sails or clan emblems that we can paint on allowing us to easily locate allies or enemies at great distances.

Second is the ability to customize the flags on the topgallants allowing for clans to develop their own flag code; Red field flag indicates a fireship, blue dots indicate a group leader, small things like this that make it easier to identify friendly ships across the battle. I also think it would be nice to allow captains to change their national indicator before a battle only to have their true jack appear in the battle. This would allow for captains to either literally smuggle goods into a ports or allow them to spring traps, forcing players to really learn their enemies and who is a member of (x) country.

Just a customization tab with emblems and shapes provided by the devs would be really cool and allow people to put some real passion into their favorite ship, even going so far as to require certain actions ((x) amount of kilometers traveled for traders, (x) players sunk, (x) towers or forts destroyed) that would unlock further options so that if you see a Frenchman with a certain Jack on his bowsprit than you know he is an experienced privateer or even allowing pirate clans to have their own ensign, all on a black field so they are still identifiable as pirates, but that way clans and players can really develop their own identity and give them that much more reason to join clans, represent both their nations and themselves, and actually invest time and care into what their ships look like. Of course these are just ideas and you can decide what they can or can't edit about a ship so that they are still withing historical boundaries but I would really enjoy investing more time into my ship to make it, well, mine.

Also, a longer night sequence would be appreciated. This game is beautiful all the time but it kinda sucks that the sun goes down and then instantly rises again. Adding lighthouses so you can see land at far distances and a simulated moon and stars that cycle and determine how bright the night sky is. Also just by making the 24 hour day tick by slower would really even out this out. Not to mention the ability to douse lights so you are nearly invisible at night allowing traders to slip away or warships to sneak up on unsuspecting prey.

I love that you brought back teleports. And they are unrestricted! Great step forward and so much fun to organize my own little privateer enterprise across the Caribbean now.

Don't let it get bad mouthed, it's a great introduction for everybody and I am sure it will facilitate movement across the map.

BUT. Just for formality's sake, why not re-name it to TRAVEL.    Please.

It would just look so much more nicer, it's not Star Trek we're playing after all. Just imagine a captain getting on the boat and let another one do the 'driving'. ;)

Add a Bulletin board at each port so people could list material, ships or goods they want to exchange; player missions (example: I want to hire an escort, or cargo hauler for a run).

Any reason for why we still don't have a bulletin board ingame? Put up an order for a ship with a specific build, at a certain price - If a ship builder feels like taking the job, they got a deal --- MUCH better than crafters having to craft out-of-the-blue and guess what people might like...

We should be able to change the price of a ship put up for sale, at any time during its sale.  If you see it isn't selling, right now the only way to change it is to take it off sale and re-introduce it to the market.  The slide for change in sale price should be in 5% increments (exact percentage a preliminary proposal, perhaps tuned), in order to prevent meaningless sale wars that keep going on through small increments.

Can we have the crew and fleet ship allocation bigger? (or get rid of the fleet perk) Just reached Rear Admiral and it's 1100 and 3 ships, doesn't allow for a very big sized fleet, especially when you have NPC fleets sailing round with 12 ship of the line that you have no hope of being able to challenge.

We need commas in the figures for gold just as in any regular business document.  So instead of 25000000 or 250000000 we would see 2,500,000 or 25,000,000.  It's way to easy to mistake one for the other.  I'm just lucky I didn't have 25M in gold to buy warlordsquid's santi.

First of all, sorry for my english.

I would like to see that this this game is more realistic because war was something that you won if you made small victories each day. Captains should earn prestige doing things useful for their nation. Now, you can be doing missions against the AI, earning money, xp an combat marks and becoming a "Jefe de Escuadra" without being useful for your nation. Combat orders should be for beginners and after that, the combat orders should affect to campaign map. For example, go to Nassau and attack that fort, or attack their traders so they will not have enough food, money, resources for war. Or "go to Nassau to bring food because someone has been attacking our traders" I mean, missions that were on curriculum vitae of most good sailors as Blas de Lezo or Nelson.

I would give money, prestige (combat marks) and experience if you go to port battles or you do missions useful for your nation as it was in history. For example, players that could get soldiers (there should be small transport ships to conquer ports with a flag and soldiers) that you have to protect them till they reach a beach close to one port which is being attacked during, for example, 48 hours. Now you attack just if you make hostility missions and enemy cannot stop warming. It would be nice that you could warm ports by yourself, as before or you could stop the warming repairing forts transporting there engineers or transporting the things that were stolen by the enemy.  After an attack, clans should repair forts, farms and cities and build trader ships to defend the economy and the port.

History show  us that most of captains had to go with a message to one port, attack one fort, or transport gunpowder, food or troops to a city which was besieged.

There are different kinds of players: traders, corsairs (or pvp players) or war players (port battles...) In my opinión, if you want to be a trader, you will be very important because the nation needs things and you will earn a lot of money. When you want to be corsair you could be any time, you just have to get the permit from the King. With a 5th rate ship you got enough.

But if you are interested on being a "Jefe de Escuadra" you should go to port battles or help cities being attacked, or attack forts, ships of an area. You would earn prestige to have a First Rate ship. Now everyone can be "Jefe de Escuadra" without fighting in port battles. In real life there were only 15 or 20 first rates by the way. Clan could repair cities, build farms, repair and build forts or pay soldiers to maintain ports but they will be expensive if you have to put a lot of soldiers there and you will have to transport. Even a single player could help, creating or maintaining a small village or one fort. Ports should be conquered by cutting their supplies, transporting soldiers, destroying or conquering forts with marines and attacking the fleet that defends that port. But now ports are too expensive, you can be earning money playing against AI. If you want to have a good artillery oficer, or good upgrades, or good sailers, you should help your country in the war. Now just doing missions you get anything so port battles are dead and pvp is not as common as before. Trade should be as before, so indiamans are useful.

The protection area should be just for beginners, which are learning. Not for a "Jefe de Escuadra". I know that is a game and everyone can have the chance of using any ship but it is not realistic any more and it is getting boring. Why should i go to a port battle or sink to another player if i can have the same or more money,  xp or combat marks sinking AI ships in combat orders? My advice, be realistic. By the way, why not a European map, Russia, Poland and Prussia (plus Turkey, algerian pirates, italian states...etc) could be on war without changing history. Thanks anyway. Sorry for my english. I used to love this game but now me and my clan mates, we are all getting bored.

Not a 'little thing I'd like to see' but a 'big one' that might be hard to code and needs a lot of tweaking : being able to put a lighter armament on a given ship than the max one as currently :

  • making the BR vary
  • giving the ability to enter an lower-ranked battle mission
  • adding an armament customization
  • useful when/if you can't or don't want to buy or craft more of a given type of guns to complete a full armament

For example : right now, HMS Cerberus carries 26 x 9-pdr. I'd like to be able to make her carry say 22 x 9-pdr or 26 x 6-pdr (= fewer guns and/or lesser caliber).
