Naval action needs new game modes, it's necessary player base is dwindeling.

Recommended Posts

Hello sailors,

I'm here to discuss a serious matter. A month ago when i logged on at around 18pm gmt +1 there would be a player base of around 160 people on. Now there's only 50-70 player one,we can conclude that the player base is dwindeling. Naval action needs a new game mode or some new features even though its in beta.

Here are some of my suggestion (I'm not very creative when it comes to these kind of stuff but i'll give it a try). The names are by no means serious.

Random Ship:

  • You get placed in to a lobby with a random ship (very straight foward)
  • Add some more stuff in the comment section ? rules etc...
  • Just a normal pvp game where everyone gets a random vessel.

Capture the ship/Escort:

  •  A ship spawns with a treasure, the oppiste team has to capture that ship (can be an type of ship)
  •  the treasure will be captured as soon as the treasure carrying ship is destroyed by the axis.
  •  There are a limited amount amounts of every type of ship.
  •  The treasure ship will be heavily armored but will be not very mobile but will have a good amount of firepower.
  •  The allies must escort the treasure ship to a certain waypoint to win.

I realise that Game-labs doesn't have a huge amount of human resource.

I'm by no mean a game dev or someone who capable of it, i'm just making a suggestion. Don't take it seriously

These game modes are obviously place holders for when the whole open world comes out.

If you have any other ideas please mention them in a comment.

Sincerely,

Benjamin

I'm tempted to close this topic here and now. But let's see what comes from it.

To be clear, the game is in developement; it is not a finished product and has not been advertised as such. All effort is now on getting the Open World ready for early access testing. The purpose of the Sea Trials (Battle Arena) is to provide testing data that enables the combat mechanics to be worked out and improved. The Sea Trials are not a design goal: they are not build to provide a long lasting intersting gameplay. Any effort put in keeping the Sea Trials interesting for the current group of early access players testers will delay the development of the Open World for the sake of short term entertainment.

Edit: reading back my own post I realize it is not very friendly. Sorry for that, I could have worded my comment more carefull.

I get what you are saying Fig and understand your concern with the numbers of people online but at the end of the day this is an alpha and the only reason why any of us are playing is to test the game as it is and as devs add new features. I think it would be a waste of time for devs to spend time creating features in an alpha which would not be used in the release version.

If Sea Trials TDM was staying around, I would fully agree with you and you are right. However, I'm pretty sure the devs have stated the TDM feature is going away.

Although, I could see that this might be useful for once they add in merchant ships and ports, to also add it to the Sea Trial testing to test out until the game is fully released. I think they said Sea Trials is staying around during Early Access but will be taken away on full release, so as long as it has an open world equivalent that needs to be tested, it might be useful to add in if there isn't much to port it from open world to sea trials and the devs want to do it.

The Admin even stated that we as testers shouldn't expect a large active playerbase and that we should expect the playerbase to drop to a very very small amount of players after a couple of weeks without patches. They are aware but have no intentions of making Sea Trials anything more than it is at the moment. Have patience instead and look forward to open world!

- Hahah fair enough Leviathan, sorry for duping your post :3

This is alpha and everyone knew that when they signed up for it. The game shall develop and people will return. Prior to open testing before steam being available there were some occasions when 1 or 2 of us were online. We were there for testing and we knew that. New features shall be included, when the new ships are introduced then the players shall spike again. Open world is currently being worked on and that is a feature that shall change the death match engagement.

I would say that the population is levelling out. When something is new then everyone is on and so you get high numbers. Given some time that number always levels out but nevertheless there will be members still testing the areas that the developers want testing.

It's early Alpha, don't expect much and just wait. There is tons of great stuff coming. Devs produce nice quality game and they take their time. No rush, there is plenty of cash in the world and it's not going anywhere  :D

At the same time, might I just say I love the fact the community that stays is so level-headed and actually prefers to back the developer rather than "omg new modez!"?

I love you, guys. These of you who happen to be female redheads, to be precise. Rest of you I really, really like, though! :3

Hail,

I am very impressed by what has been released to date for testing, looking forward to many additional items being tossed at us for feedback. Honestly, at this point the Alpha release has been running very well on my system.

And to add, "I Love the ships".....

S!

Galileus and Arvenski: Please try and have a bit of decency and reply in a decent manner like 5knuckle, Prater, and Wind.

There is absolutely no need to be condescending to a community member trying to share his $0.02 on a game he likes. Treat him the way you'd like to be treated.

About the OP, it's Sea Trials still :/ I hope there is going to be some more content soon, but what we have now is what we have.

I do appreciate the wink towards rules being stated (not sure if intended), but that is of a different matter :P.

Did anyone relize, that open world, when it will be open to large segment of testers, will have same destiny as sea trials have now after couple weeks?)

Make adequate ship constructor at least after OW. It will help a lot, i think, and it doesn't sound like "useless in future".

Expresses a concern.

No. Just no.

You, on the other hand, need to read what Sea Trials is and what is it's purpose.

To soften a bit for Fig, I've noticed the same.  I think it will be a cycle of ups and downs as new content becomes "old", and then as new ships & etc comes in we see a spike player pop.  It will be the nature of the beast until we do hit a Beta status with open world in place and functioning (I do believe this is the game release status...but I'm not a dev, so don't quote me).

Your recommendation is appreciated and it is possible that the dev's could decide, based on feedback, to mix it up in the Alpha state so-as to get continued support through Alpha.

I just enjoy what access to the game I have now for what it is. I consider any part of the game i'm allowed to experience until beta as me giving back to the developers and hopefully providing useful data and feed back. Alphas purpose isn't necessarily for our enjoyment so much as it is to help assure at full release we have a product to fully enjoy. Also consider playing some other games as well during this time, perhaps pursue learning more about the history and technology of the time so to better understand the game. Read or watch some great literary works about the period both fiction and non fiction. Get involved in a good fleet of like minded sailors and experience the community aspect of a soon to be awesome game. Im thinking of going sailing for real hopefully this year for the first time hopefully. sorry not the answer or support on your OP you were looking for but perhaps your not looking at the problem from other angles.

Happy sailing and fair winds to you and all your days

It probably was not intended by the originator, but I think that such procedure would have quite a positive impact on testing. Such random configurations, would provide data on the strange scenarios that do not appear in normal matches.

All in all, making new game modes would be spending time and resources on something that is going to be deleted in a moment anyway AND at the same time completely crippling the testing engine.

I would prefer to pay devs to take two weeks off and party, honestly. At least the testing engine wouldn't break. Well, depending on the party location...

I have spent enough time testing to have the Santi, but can't say I am yet a master of sailing mechanics (even though I have spent many years sailing yachts). I still find myself making mistakes in the heat of battle. My point is that I am content to devlelop my skills while awaiting the timely introduction of open world.
