Suggestions for Dev. how to better and easyer test new dmg model

Recommended Posts

Dear sir*s

I realy enyoy playing and testing your game and i have a couple of suggestions,

From my playing perspective i noticed that from my 100% time spend in game 80% and more are very close range combat pure clean Double shot broadsides from all the boats big and small ones. Damage grinding way of progress also does not help that couse to test better all mechanics of the game so what that meens if that we use all available recourses in game and give them a proper test time to say like that.

My suggestion is that you put some kind of reward for the side wining the battle, for example everything stays the same you just add some kind of reward (+3k dmg for all ships in wining side* ) in that way people will behave drasticly different on the seas and surely they will spend much more time giving the other things in game a proper evaluation and give the proper feedback to the developer"s not just 2x Double shoot 80% of time feedback.

We had a win battle requirement during the first week of sea trials in November. We took it out for 2 reasons

1) stat padding - people were having arranged matches

2) age of sail motivation - we have found a lot of references from the Age of Sail where admiralties of countries rewarded captains for bravery and conduct - not for winning. There were many cases when british of french captains were losing battles and still received promotions, recognition and new ships because they fought as lions.

That is why we introduced pure damage as the only reward..

But of course in the future winning could be more important on the meta level (you will sink enemy fleet that the opponent will have to rebuild).

Captains would still be brought to a military court on account of losing their ships, despite the outcome of the battles. This is the absolute opposite of the rewarding winning side even if you lose your ship. Obviously this cannot be modeled correctly for simple sea trial but could be included in the OW mode. Could be interesting to have such mechanics work along with "naval record" Reputation of sorts.

Regarding shot and damage a "distance traveled" entry on the log would benefit the testing for sure. Obviously it can open a couple threads of historical representation discussions but overall would help more than not.

I believe that the sea trial are just that, and as admin said, the OW meta is the aim, not the arena death matches ( at least for myself ).

Let's not get carried away...

What will constitute this board?  Will it be made up of players or will it be an automated mechanic?  The former will lead to politicking and acrimony, the latter will seldom hit the mark.

It may serve the RP players, to an extent, but the vast majority of people would find going to a "military court" thanks to actions in game a bit tedious to say the least.

Some things really don't add to the enjoyment of the game, this would be a waste of resources for little gain, in my humble opinion.

Just another random idea for testing Damage Model 4.0.

Give us a testing room where we can go 1 v 1 with a stationary AI vessel that doesn't shoot back. No credit in damage to be earned, of course.

In ArmA I helped de-bug tank damage models all the time, and would just place friendly tanks down on a runway to hit them in different places with rockets and auto-cannons.

Sorry if it was misunderstood Balck. I was referring to the case where the sinking of a ship in game should be just that, nothing more nor less. And it is a event equal to both winning side and losing side, as in - you lost your ship. Talking about Sea trials here. OW is a subject down the line and treated in due time.

Not suggesting a Court mechanics :)

I don t know if this is on or of topic. The military court/player run court actually excist in the corean MMO Archage. If you kill a player of your own faction you can be brought to court. Players can do court time and vote the player guilty. If so he will have to spend active game time in jail, and can even break out.

I dont know if it helps in improving player behaviour, but well it excists and when players complain about Archage that is not one of the points they are frustrated with ( however the lack of rewarding endgame is)

Really like your Post axralis. Winning for a Team should mean more. But lots of people will keep on doing the Damagegrind its to be feared. :(

The problem is that if people would play the game as it should this goes for smaller vessels not for SoL s they would do so much less dmg maybe not even half on their full dmg output. So if the smaller ships do they job as they should witch is protecting SoL s and allways be near her listen to orders that the captains in SoL are giving.  What we see at the moment is that for the couse of dmg they brake off early go who knows where and engage who knows where to deal some dmg while in that time the SoL that for example that frig was to protect was getting raked all the time and he realy cant do anything about it becouse his escort is on the other part of the map doing dmg and thinking hes doing great for the team.
