'Wapen von Hamburg' (III) German 3rd Rate Konvoiship

Also, where is your signature from, Malachi? It looks awesome.

The name of the painting is 'The Flåden forlader havnen for sidste gang' (The fleet leaves the harbour for the last time) by Christian Mølsted :)

No german sailing shiff has ever sailed in ANY computer age of sail game as far as i know. NA will be first.

PotBS had the Alexander/Macedon (based on the Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde), Locust (Berlin) and the Wapen von Hamburg I (not sure about the last one, though)

And while, as a german, I certainly appreciate the gesture, I have to agree with Avernski: there are myriads of more interesting ships out there than the WvH III which would deserve a spot in NA :)

We are getting a new ship and people complain because it's "the wrong ship".

Thx, for bringing this beautiful ship to live :-)

Btw. Has a developers choice been announced from last ship vote?

Multiple reasons

Germany is our game second largest buyer. German players purchase more copies than UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Holland combined.

Hamburg is our gift to the German players.

If i buy more copies than them will you make me a Greek ship? :P Joking of course.

But really can we ( or rather I ) have a Greek ship? :P

Thats surprising. I think its a good choice anyway the ship is very pretty.

If you say German build that should be right, but in Potbs there was a prussian frigate "Berlin" or "Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde" if i remember right.

But we are thankful for this ship :)

There aren't any better German ships out there?

Not really. We´ve been a no-show in the Age of Sail :P

If I had to pick a 'german' ship for NA, my choice would be the frigate Gefion. Launched in Denmark in 1844, captured 1848 by Prussia and then one of the few ships that sailed under black-red-gold banner of the Bundesflotte until it was incorporated into the prussian navy in 1852.

About the same size as the Conny and carrying a battery of 28 24-pounders, no major modifications would be required to make her fit for NA aesthetically.

And before someone complains that she wouldn´t be a 'true' german ship, the others aren´t either as most of the ships of the 1650-1720 period like the Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde were built by dutch, british or swedish shipwrights.

I'll post a couple of drawings of the Gefion the danish frigate thread in the evening :)

For a start, here´s the stern and the head:

Reminder there is still not a single Dutch ship in game while there are 3-4 Russian/Danish ones; a historically totally insignificant seafaring nation, like Germany.

Come at me.

Come at me.

Dutch warships were mostly obsolete in the period of the game due to conservatism and draft restrictions.

Oh, the 3D model is great, don´t get me wrong. But to quote Sella from page 1:

From the article i've posted earlier it seems that the model is not depicting the actual Wapen von Hamburg. But still she is lovely!

Generic british 50-gun ship with the coats of arms of Hamburg tacked on.

a historically totally insignificant seafaring nation, like Germany.

300 years history of the Hanseatic League, with traders and warships. After that time the germans had no time to build a navy (except Brandenburg-Prussia (a small one), because at one hand they didn't have one nation on the other they were too busy to fight on land among themselves. But still they build thousands traders that crossed all over the oceans and some convoy ships like Wappen von Hamburg. The germans build one of the biggest whalingfleet in europe. Tenthousends sailors did their service in the dutch indiacompanies and many many sailors fought for danish and british navy. Therefore Germany is a siginficant seafaring nation, although not in navy history. ;)

Thank you for that ship.

Looks very interesting! Just wondering how she will perform if she is implemented as a 3rd rate with historical armament.
I find it hard to see how useful those "big" 18 pounders will be after the recent patches.

Considering she was a escort ship, i imagine she wont be used as a ship of the line but well... an escort ship for indiamans and other tradeships
