Battle Ending

Recommended Posts

Hello

Okai, today during one battle there was small discussion about battle endings in the last 20 minutes, when there are mostly few ships alive, game gets boring, some people tend to run around from enemies, and some tend to sail to kill that last one dc player who is on the other side of map.
So how it will look in OW?

There were many great propositions, rubber ducks with moustache etc. But my proposition is different:

When the counter hits 20 minutes till end of a battle, the ship can try to run away, if he gets enough distance (i don't know how far) then the battle ends, the ship survive, there is no need for 20 minutes chasing around etc. There are ofcourse some problems:

- ring kills in 5 minutes, if we disable it at the 20 minute left of battle, the people will use it to make game painfull, keepin in distance but not running away, taking Your 20 minutes of precious life.

- surrender button. Save Your ship, lose cargo? lose ship and cargo but be alive? dunno.

- ring could shrink even more and more and mooore.

- maybe when the ships wont fire and hit on themselvz in 5 minutes the battle will end?

- rubber ducks?

Okai, whats Your propositions?

Ahoy.

When OW comes there will hopefully not be any ring at all. when people realize they will loose a battle they'll try to escape, and you can either chase them down or stay and collect the spoils of whats remaining.
a solution for the arena battles could be some kind of objective or something.

I think after 30 minutes ships should be allowed to retire, if there are opposing ships of a higher class around (unrated ships vs frigates vs ship of the lines).  But victory itself should be finer graded, comparative damage, losses, captured ships should be taken into account and weighed. There could be decisive victories if one side preserved all its ships while obliterating the enemy team. All in all matches shouldn't end in a draw just because one side has a single ship somewhere at the end of the circle alive.
