Pirate Patch and Content

Time for Rocko's yearly Pirate thread, this time a little different.

 First off, the usual suggested changes to Pirate nation: 

  • No RvR
  • Limited to free ports, maybe kidd's island as a home base (or another secret island)
  • No Safe zones 
  • Outlaw battles (yes I said it)
  • Rank 2 shipyard max
  • Some sort of a bonus (ex: 2% extra speed or boarding buff) 

Why do this?

  • Currently, there is nothing that separates pirates from the the other nations
  • It is a change people have been suggesting for years now 
  • Not everyone wants to focus on RvR
  • Give the role players and OW hunters a faction to be proud of
  • If the pirates are banished from Mortimer Town, this could open up an unique opportunity for the developers to introduce some new content. Example below:

An Idea i think that would be cool:

Turn the island of Mortimer Town into ai-controlled ports (similar to free towns) that produce the most lucrative trade goods (NOT crafting resources) in the game that only sell for good profit at nation capitals. These ports would only allow trade ships inside and could not be controlled by any clan or nation. This would let the entire player population bid against each other for the best trade goods. On top of this, these ports could be subject to clan-based raids (either pve or pvp) where the clan with the most hostility points at the end of the day receives a reward chest (or something similar) in their warehouse during maintenance.

What would this accomplish? It would focus trading and PvP to the center of the map. It would give economy-based players (and their escorts) incentive to sail out of their safe zone and into a highly populated area. This also would give solo hunters and group PvPers a central destination that is far away from safe zones. I think it has been suggested before to focus content in the center of the map, and with everyone wanting 100% safe zones, I think this is a way to make everyone happy (including the Pirates!).

Im sure someone will find a way to tear this post apart (I don't claim for it to be a perfect suggestion), so I encourage them to make a better suggestion :)

No more pirate nation.

Raiding ports,

No more 3rd - 1st rates.

No more port ownership.

No more screening.

No more port battles.

No more..

What's that? What's that?

Ah my alarm clock......still dreaming of real piracy and the hard-core game so long promised....Well maybe next year.😊

Suggested so often by so many, it hurts.

With this in place no more silly plastic 1st rate sailing, disney pirate, multi alt, "nation.'

Sympathize with most things said here.

What would you Pirates say to a 'contract system' which would enable other nations to hire you for short term missions, like privateering for a certain nation for 'letters of marque' aimed at ships of another nation exclusively (for a reward of course)? Like escorting traders and keeping them safe from other pirates/nations? Or adding your ships to someone who wants to attack another nation and wants to use mercenaries for his port battle fleet?

I am no Pirate but I guess those are tasty bits for your sort. :)

and secret hideout also...

you must sail close to coast to spot an hideout , random on the map, that can be conquered/owned by a pirates or smuggler clan, can be defended only by owners and can be raided and destroyed looting all the stuff and gold inside...so the rats or smugglers (can be a national clan also) have to sail away to find another spot

Naval Action is the game where players can play as he wish.

If you do not want to participate in the RVR, then do not participate.

About shipyards, I like it in theory, but your suggestion is stupid. People will use alts to make SOLs, buy SOLs etc. If you want to implement that idea, you need to ban possibility to sail SOLs for pirates. Is it going to be better for the game? Well, I see no grest benefits by doing this, but pirate "nation" might be more immersive and realistic.

Potential issues: late state game where everyone sails SOLs like Bellonas or bigger ships. You often see these Swedish fleets of 5-6 Bellonas or more. Unless @admin implements high maintenance/cost for SOLs upkeep, after game release and wipe we will end up with Caribbean full of 1st rates and SOLs everywhere again. 

I think you do not understand me

Do not ask developers to change something, if you can change it yourself.

If the player does not want safe zones, then do not swim in them.

If a player does not want pirates to have a level 3 shipyard, then he does not build them

Simple.

For not being able to sail SOLs you get other privileges not available to us nations; primarily I think of the grand idea of hideouts hidden on the map where to operate from. This is so sexy even I am considering becoming a pirate if that would exist...

This is for nation's to do not pirates.

In real life a group of pirates held Nassau for a short period of time.

Teach blockaded Charleston for a few days and this led to him being hunted down and killed.

You like RVR. That cool but it's not piracy.

This is the most stupid thing in the game. Pirates rolling around in SOL.

Pirates should be hard coded to 5th rate or less. Therefore no alt abuse.

Pirates in SOL is total nonsense. Again, lots of nations to choose from if you want SOL join one of them.

We want proper pirate mechanics.

Atm all we have is a huge amount of ALTS who sit outside Mortimer guiding their mains from other nations onto the pirate noobs and farming PVP marks.

We don't want a pirate NATION we just want pirate mechanics.

About shipyards, I like it in theory, but your suggestion is stupid. People will use alts to make SOLs, buy SOLs etc. If you want to implement that idea, you need to ban possibility to sail SOLs for pirates. Is it going to be better for the game? Well, I see no grest benefits by doing this, but pirate "nation" might be more immersive and realistic. correct, no more sailing something more than 5th rates for rats, or maybe can cap and sail 1-3rd rates but undercrewed and with more malus...usually there weren't so many rats to crew a 3rd rate.

Pirates were never better than navy sailors, at best they were on par (often former navy/merchant sailors).

But let them have the increased chance of an extra trim in freeports like we (Nation players) have in capturable nation ports.

Well, only a quick thought, but you could limit the rank and with this the max Crew size of pirates. That would limit the use of bigger ships and the capabilities of RVR for the pirates. As compensation give them outlaw battle again and you have a new interesting hardcore "nation".

Oh, and no safezones, of course!

I don't think you can have it both ways on this point.  Either they can raid/loot and take what they want or they cant raid.  Its unreasonable to have a raiding function, but you are limited in what you can take.
