New value for basic skill books you don't care about (progression of usability)

Recommended Posts

Some basic books are interesting in early game to mid game, then you have them all and roll your eyes when you find them again and again in the loot of a defeated ship, or in the shop of some port. I have an idea how you could still make use of them, so they are no garbage to you.

They could add to your existing skills, in small fragments. Just by percentages. Imagine you give those books to your staff, your officers on board or in form of training to your sailors. What makes them increase their skills just like you had yours by the very first skill book of that type.

The minimal effect is added with each skill book to the benefit your first skill book of that name had. Negative effects may get reduced.

Like (examples):

"Pellew's Sights" (original effect: Cannon dispersion per 100m, cannon vertical dispersion per 100m; - 10 %) ####### dispersion - 0,1 % added with one book, makes total - 10.1 %.

"Powder Monkeys 6-7th rates" (original effect: Deck cannon reload time - 10 %) ####### reload time - 0,1 % added with one book, makes total - 10,1 %.

"Service Historique de la Marine" (original effect: Crew damage  receive - 12 %) ####### damage receive - 0,12 % added with one book, makes total - 12,12 %.

"Reinforced Sails 1-3rd rates" (original effect: Sailing crew required + 30 %, sail module base HP + 5 %) ####### as crew required is here meant to be a disadvantage, an advantage by distributing books has to mean: - 0,3 % added to the original, makes now + 29,7 % required, while sail module base HP adds + 0,05 %, totalling + 5,05 %.

"Grog Rations" (original effect: Attack Bonus 3 %, Morale Bonus 2, Accuracy Bonus - 30 %) ####### attack bonus + 0,3 %, morale bonus + 0,2, accuracy bonus + 0,3 % totals in 3,3 %/2,2/- 29,7 %.

So in this idea, we see per book a change by 10 percent to the original value, either way up or down as required. Players would have to "use" the acquired books as they did with their first one - the used second, third, fourth, etc book of same name will show up nowhere afterwards, just influence the numbered effects of the first book installed. So, in this calculation, you would need ten books of the same type to double the original effect of the first book. If this is considered too high, we can reduce the additional bonus with every new book, so first gives 10 %, second only 5 %, third 2 % and fourth 1 %. More books will not have tracable effect. Explain this by imagining you give the second copy to your lieutenant, the third to your ship master, fourth to a mate or midshipman, etc with reduced range for each. Giving a book to each sailor does not work, because for his simple task he does not need more instructions than he already had, or he is illiterate anyway...

Idea gives new life to frequent basic books and less disappointment when looting NPC ships and finding those.

Also prices for them will go up in shops with people offering them by contract.

Not more Mod power. We shoud get back to more basic ships.

That ships that run from basic stats 11.5 knots shoud not run 15 knots anymore. We need Hunter and Brawler.

Like a Class System where the Ships where setup in Real. A Renomee for take Sails and a Indef or any other Frig to take down the Enemy. Like it was when i startet playing.
