wows player here.

Recommended Posts

Hi.  I want to apologize in advance for my poor english, is not my native language but i will try my best.

I am a regular wows player but i am getting tired and i decided to search for something new. I tried a few others games : dreadnought, crossout, eve online and i was hoping to join Naval action Legends unfortanely i didn't got luck with that. So i thought maybe Naval Action could be something interesting but i have some questions.

- I run wows in a geforce 940mx ddr5 , 8 gb ram , i5 at 1600 x 900 medium settings 25 - 30 fps . Is this specs enough to run Naval Action ?

- How is the server population?  Can i expect to see a lot activity ?

- I just watch on youtube video that port battles are only for clans. Is the game offering a limited experience for solo players?

- How is the trading experience? How much time you guys spent in sailing from a harbor to another? It is tedious?

- There is something else important about the game i should know?

Thank you for reading.

In my pov you should be able to run NA at 20 fps.

Server population is not at its best. Today we reached 560 players. It should improve with next patches and IF @admin finally made the tweaks we are asking for patrols and rvr.

Port battles involves lots of players per side. It has a clan system to avoid sabotage by enemies using alt accounts.

Trade gives you good money if you are clever at finding a good trading route. Sailing depends on the wind, so you have to plan your route in advance.

NA is unique. You will love it or hate it. But you should try it.

A lot of hopes were dashed, we're in the same boat ;) (if you can manage to think very long term there might still be hope)

Solo play could be called a struggle, but there are quite a few of us who are working tirelessly to make "patrol missions" a good fit for those who like fair-ish and challenging fights as opposed to the open world stars who seem content ganking in packs and bullying people around capitals.

Hey. I alpha tested and have played wows a long time too. I came to NA and now have over 3500 hours - rarely play wows. Up until recently, i was playing on a system older than yours with a gtx 650 - and i was getting 25-45 FPS. There is a solo game. It can be simple or complex, it depends on the time you give it. I have played as a single or one man clan player for almost all the years ive been playing. I can trade, fight on my own, help another clan, build ships - whatever i want. As for sailing and trading...again it depends on your goals as to how tedious it becomes. Trading for money, trading for resources to sell, trading for materials for upgrades or building a fleet of ships. What you should know about playing is this:  Complete the tutorial. Ask for help. Joining a clan can be very helpful. And most importantly...Never forget...ITS JUST A GAME

600 players in the NA open world translates to heavy traffic ship lanes or empty seas with some rare fighting happening? I ask this to get a better picture.

I read about the patrol missions in the foruns. I can play them alone or i need to have teammates?

Good choice in the words.

" ...i was playing on a system older than yours with a gtx 650 - and i was getting 25-45 FPS"

Can you be more specific about your graphics settings you used with the gtx 650. This would help me alot.

Thank you all.

You have some hotspots where you can find players, but this game is not meant to have heavy traffic. Its not about constant action, its more about not knowing what you get into (you could not meet an enemy for 2 hours, you could run into a big fleet or you could catch a lone trader). The map is huge and you need like 4 or 5 hours to travel from one end to the other. However the player numbers are relatively low for quite some time now.

Pretty much yeah, these are big endgame fights which require communication for the most part, thats why a clan is mandatory. The community is very friendly tho.

Honestly, dont buy this game for trading. The economy is fcked up due to inflation and trading mostly with NPCs and not other players. Also the travelling between the ports can be 10 mins or some hours depending on the goods you want to trade. Lots of "afk sailing" while watching youtube on the 2nd screen involved.

 - There is something else important about the game i should know?

1. Fights are not meant to be fair except for portbattles, so most of the times they will be in uneven numbers. This can be good or bad depending on your mindset.

2. UI in ports is ugly atm but they are working on it

3. the devs seem to be focussed on DLCs at the moment and there are a lot of discussions if they are pay2win or not. Small and medium sized shipbattles seem to be dominated by these DLC ships at the moment

4. If you plan to buy it you should take a look at your nation very early (check which clans are there, how you come along with them etc) and decide if you want to stay here for the rest of your playtime. Switching later means deleting your character and starting new or buying a DLC.

5. You need time. This is no jump in and get action game.

Im not playing this game currently so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

If i am not mistaken we had 150 players at night and 300-400 during eu prime time some time ago. Now we have 600. Why everyone has to point out game is dying and that it's getting worse?

If you are just looking for action I can recommend to do the tutorial and the exams. Completing them will give you starting money a 250crew rank (let's you crew a decent sized frigate) and repairs. Furthermore you get a bit used to the combat system.

After that it's really up to you. If you don't like trading and you want to get into instant action I can recommend to buy at least one of the available dlc ships. Those ships can be redeemed in-game once ever day and cost no in-game effort except 3 clicks. Depending on you nation choice you can either patrol your reinforcement area and help players in distress or you can go to the patrol area (don't forget to pick the mission) and fight a la moba game to the death with no option to escape. Here I recommend to look for battles that already started and to join one of sides.

- There is something else important about the game i should know?

The only thing what is important is to look for a  good clan AND JOIN it

and if you don't,  you FAIL big time from the start, so be smart, and patient.

in this game, you need to be taken by the hand, to grow and to become a real skilled captain.

many clans are willing to help you but you need to look for them

Watch youtube and see if you like it

I would echo the responses of some here that you should take the salty vets with a grain of their own salt. You'll note that many of us have 1000's of hours in game and certainly have found a lot to be engaged with. Do know that the learning curve is more of a cliff that needs to be scaled, and while the tutorial is very worthwhile it won't get you up to speed on all of the mechanics and quirks of the game in general.

Good luck, and do ask about clans when you get into the game, you'll find plenty of people to help.  And if you jump into the Pirate "nation" don't hesitate to drop a note in Nation chat as there will be plenty of us around to help you get up to speed and give you good advice!

I agree.  I've been keeping notes on the numbers of player's for a couple years.  We have about 100 (avg) more now than we used to have on both PvP servers combined.

Because basically nothing changes, and developers are polishing surface, instead of solving current issues, they create new ones by themselves, nolens volens.....(our beloved Requin)

Things that should be already in the game, are not in game, features over a year old, still not working, no depth in game, low content, looks like nobody cares about so many good suggestions posted here by many "testers/players",and so on......

Massive exodus of "old guard players", which were carrying and organising whole nations/clans, and i guess they won`t come back.

Pure boredom after a while, nothing much to do when you login.

But hey, " 5 men 10 opinions".....An old slavic saying.

I do them all alone and have had quite a few good duels and small fights. I expect to die every time because, like I mentioned, the OW heroes tend to come in groups and steamroll the patrol zones. We're trying to "fix" that.

I'll assume based on your comment about your English that you are not American.  So just for reference, in the Steam chart above, the 4 or 5 hour span there at or around 500 concurrent players is basically European prime time, and the 4 or 5 hour span at or around 250 players is US prime time.  Just to give you an idea of player diversity.

If i buy a premium ship i can sink once every 24 hours? Can i capture a premium ship?  If i lose a cargo ship. I will lose all the cargo but the ship will respawn in the harbor? How it works?

Ok this is important. Months ago i tried to play EVE online. I studied many guide videos on youtube and decided to focus on hacking in wormholes. I made something like 150 million in a few days but in the end i was just a lonely player out there trying to avoid any contact  in low sec.  I don't feel comfortable in speaking english so i had no desire in joining a clan which force me to speak and so i quit.  There was some portuguese, brazilians  ( my native language )clans but they request i had much more experience before joining them. In short i lost interest in a week. I am telling this because i want to know if i can join someone in the harbor to do something without be part of clan.  For example if both ships are in the same nation they can't attack each other right? So i can invite/join someone to do some pve or escorting a trade ship, etc without the need to use a mic to comunicate?

That is great. Could be a lot of fun.

We once "had" a mechanic that when you attacked someone of your own nation you turned pirate but this mechanic was taken out because of player mistakes.

Every nation (pirates are a nation as well) can visit avaiable for all ports (that are ports captured by a nation but set to be open for access for any nation) Freetwons are non capturable and are by nature open for access  to any nation.

You can play NA as solo player. But everything is way slower. As team you can get access to everything faster. Access you gain faster as team are crafting and pvp.

RvR (port battles) are impssible as solo player against other players. In order to join a portbattle you have to be in a clan because rvr is clan based only clans that are on the port battle list can send player into the port. What you can do is join  screening ( aka denying enemy to enter the portbattle) without being in a clan. Just read the nation chat, study the portbattle information on the map and be at the right time at the right place.

What can happen is that those players still want to communicate and therefore use discord or ts, because in big battles com is key.

For casualy hunting AI you dont need voice. just ask in nation chat if someone want to join you.

Thank you, i have a few more questions to understand.

"We once "had" a mechanic that when you attacked someone of your own nation you turned pirate but this mechanic was taken out because of player mistakes."

So you can attack ships, board and steel the cargo from ships in your nation?

Do i need to purchase a letter of marque to be a corsair or i just can sail to another nation waters and attack them?

There is a permanent war between nations? There are peace times ? In peace times i can sail to trade to another faction harbors without the fear of being attack by that nation ships?

No that isnt possible anymore you only can attack other nations. All what players of your nation can do to you is flame you in chat and when they shot in a battle at you its considered friendly fire and can be punished when reported.

Its a sandbox. All what you can think about is possible. So when you want to be a privateer act by your own rules.

The game is clear. Is it red (enemy) you can attack it. thats the only rule

If you dont belong to a clan you make your own rules. You can get in contact with the enemy and negotiate about peace that all is by trust to the other side because there is currently no game mechanic. Game is simply. other nations are your enemy. diplomacy is player driven and only due to trust.

Trader ships like "trader brig" "indiaman" "trader snow" "trader cutter" "trader lynx" and "Lgv" have a special rule they can act as smuggler and can enter any port even if it belongs to the enemy.

No problems . I have problems with devs selling OP premium ships to make more money. This happens a lot in wows.  This happens in NA?

They recently released 2 premium ships which are broken at the moment (Hercules and Xebec). If you read a bit in the forum you will also see a lot of discussions about these ships. However they stated that they will rebalance all other ships in the same shipclass to match them. Problem is there is no date when this will happen since they also work on UI and economy rebalance. Could be a month, could be half a year.

I have not heard of this clan, maybe @Lars Kjaer  @staun knows them.

There used to be a zone for new players which got removed. Instead every nation has a protected area where its hard to attack you. Thats the best place to do your first steps after the tutorial.

There used to be a zone for new players which got removed. Instead every nation has a protected area where its hard to attack you. Thats the best place to do your first steps after the tutorial.

"However they stated that they will rebalance all other ships in the same shipclass to match them"

Ok so they follow the same WG policy. Premium ships can't be nerf. And there is no public server here for CC players test them first before release to the public. Of course this last part to WG is not important they only use the CC to increase the hype and then sell them broken anyway to make money.  The difference is WG have non interest in fixing the ships  in the tech tree . I just saw the Xebec and there is no oars? Beautiful ship.

Anyway i already bought the game and i am doing the tutorial missions atm. What is the benefits in sailing the protected area?

If you get attacked by players you can click a button and get AI reinforcements to match the attacking force.
