First here is a video about 27ship that I sunk or captured. Those ships were sailed by players that were active looking for pvp fights.

To most used books belong the the 3 encyclopedias. What is the reason for this?

The gunnery encyclopedia is crafted out of 4 different books. Book of five rings obvious out of 5 books and last but not least the art of ship handling is made out of 2 books. Each encyclopedia uses currently 1 slot . So its actuall possible to use a ship with (4+5+2) + 2 = 13 slots in total.

I propse to change  encyclopedias to use 2 (ship handling and gunnery) and book of 5 rings = 3 knowledge slots. That would even out the field even with no access to those books.

Nah. These books are the heart of progression and offer up primarily PvE'ers a significant source of income. They aren't that OP in the end and are infrequently used in those combinations.  If you take these away or make them less useful then all it does is remove one more reason for the try-hards and the PvE'ers to be in the game, and right now we need all the players and content we can get.

So suddenly pve is endgame?

To some it might be, this is a sand box you can't say what one does is not what another.  I play all parts of the game, but some folks might want to play mainly all trade/PvE while others just only PvP.   It 's the lovely thing about a sandbox game.  We make our own end game content for the most part.

I think the point is that chasing these elite, combo books are a bit of a luxury for both PvE'ers and PvP'ers, when all other needs are met. You either need a fair number of PvP marks, cash, or a lot of time burning through AI of one stripe or another to put these together, and they currently constitute one of the last things that vets pull together for themselves after they are max rank.

After that, it's just more PvP, more grind, more AI, more trade, or RvR.. whatever fun you're making for yourself.  it's the last piece of the provided content and our point is that it shouldn't be.  But to remove it will just hasten the descent to boredom that the lack of content and the lack of tools for players to generate it for themselves in a game with only a few hundred players has created.  :(

This will simply nullify the very reason these books are there.

And, well, PVE is actually endgame when max level player spend quite some time engaging in it to get high-end gear.

Why does it nullify?

I see that for art of ship handling. But it's still a 2 slot win for gunnery and 2 slot win for five rings?

NA players are cuddled by the game. Looks like some players don't stand up when it's not a 8 slot advantage and they would have to face even odds.

Imported ship are broken but mods are fiiiiiiinnne. Sure. Let's dream on.

Upgrades and books are being revamped. This change will get in with the port UI update.

  • All books and Upgrades will be split into logical groups, based on their use.
  • Player will only be able to install / use 1 upgrade from the group.
  • Bonuses will be readjusted and harmonized

"Harmonized" is a soft way to say nerfed? We have about 10-15 or more books that are useless not to forget about it.

I hope the perk and point system got a revamp to in the new port UI update, because of its an integral part of the whole picture of a build

One group of upgrades give too much bonuses to the base stat
Another group of upgrades give meaningless bonuses to the base stat.

Harmonization will do the following
Abstract example (numbers are for the illustration purposes only).
If you can buff reload by 30% you should be able to buff penetration by 30% as well, to give a meaningful choice between reload and penetration.
If you can buff repairs by 30% you should be able to buff HP or Thickness by 30% instead.

This is very good to hear, and to be so soon! You guys must be really pushing hard to get the game balanced and presentable. Can't wait for eco and UI, I know I'm just gonna love NA when it gets this facelift.

At the "same time" or do you mean it like "either" but have somewhat the same effect?

Hard choices in upgrades and setup. If you want to upgrade guns you have to pick one, reload or ammo or sights etc, but all of those choices will be good (given you get the right upgrades from drops or from admiralty).

No, not really. Reload buffs don't have nearly the effect of penning buffs. Reload and dps are not nearly as important as damage per broadside. A ship with 30% more pen will always win I'm sure of that.

That being said I get what @z4ys is getting at here and to a certain extent he is right but book of 5 rings is useless now basically since crew nerf and DD. No worth 2 slots a definitely not 3. Gunnerys reload buff and accuracy buff are the only relevant parts of the mod and pellews plus powder monkeys would be better so gunnery would be useless. Art of ship needs a small speed nerf imo but that is it

I'm hoping some of the perks (Fleet 1 and prepared) will be automatic (so that we can choose others). This would have a greater impact on which mods you choose.

Me too, at the expense of main ship crew count without chance of requesting a resupply by air bridge... -.-

Sounds like you could more easily balance this way, choosing between something like 15% reload, 10% pen, or 30% accuracy, give or take depending on the tier of upgrade.

Will the number of upgrade slots be the same? Assuming you have 3 categories, guns hull and sails. What will the other two slots be?

Fleet 1, prepared, and control within a small distance :)

because the three uber books grant (in one knowledge slot) all the advantages that the single books used to craft the uber book would award if they would be learnt one by one and then used slot by slot. So their real (and only) advantage is that you can have two, four or five bonuses using just one slot.

Edit: Never mind, it was just for the speed turn one (which BTW is the most important one)

just for sake of curiosity: will this revamp mean that players will loose all the already learnt knowledges (and have then to buy/drop once more all the books)?

Isn't the whole point of getting those books to get a sense of progression? It's something to aim for so those people that can be arsed to get them should have an advantage.

Why 3 slots instead of 1 for 5rings wouldn't t be an advantage anymore when the book is made out 5 books?

It's still 2 books/slots less.

I know some NA players don't start to move when reward is not a million. But why is a 2 slot advantage not enough?
