National Traits

reason is to give different nations their own identity.

Examples:

Great Britain - Reload and Crew Morale bonus.

French - Rigging and Penetration bonus.

Spanish - Damage and Hold bonus.

Pirates - 6th and 5th rates crew morale and boarding bonuses or maybe raiding bonus.

Denmark/Norway - Fishing (lol) and lineship bonus?

Dutch - Trading bonus with other nations and speed bonuses.

Swedish - Carpenting bonus and building bonuses.

Russia - Rum bonus (stronk vodka) and crew resistance bonus.

Prussia - turning and yard bonuses or something.

US - 100% damage and morale bonus on 4th of July

 

Just playing around with thoughts giving each nation an identity. Could also make it an In Port / OW bonus and one Battle bonus.

Unbalanced. Only few nations designed to dominate and the rest are garbage.

To make Nations unique Developer must introduce refits for already existing ships. Repaint them for each Nation. Each nations should share same qualities, but different looking ships, so capturing one will be a great achievement. You can not give one nation reload and another nation cargo space, instead give one nation a better looking ship and make other nations hunt for it. 

Captain skill tree, achievements tree, Reputation tree all these will make one Nation better based on how many complete them and unlock something that will make them better. This gives equal opportunity for all.

ex. 500 US captains have everything unlocked and all achievements and bonuses open vs Britain only 200. Now we have 500 vs 200 , but 300 more can work harder and achieve same numbers. 

This is how you make Nations unique. @admin

giving a nation one bonus and an other nation an other bonus doesnt make one of the nation OP it just builds up for different setups instead of all building teak white oak ships with the same mods, same knowledges. There are several successful mmo games that have various bonuses based on races or factions. I would honestly think NA would benefit from it because it gives the character a personality and background

Instead of maybe nation bonus maybe nation crafted ships bonus would work better, but than I would love to see regional bonus brought back kinda.

I do love the idea of nations having specialty cosmetics or some kinda boon that doesnt affect balance but I don't know what that would look like. Perhaps a ship refit specific to each nation so you need to trade with other nation's to get the refits you want?

but then again if it swings that way its not unique for 1 nation

If only one nation can have it and its a good buff like speed. Then that nation becomes op. Even a 1%speed buff would be massive if only french got it and no one else could.

its not op, you just need to keep it in mind if you face someone you know might be faster like you do today if you have navy hull and the one you fight has copper plating. There could be other traits, it was just a few examples. But there is a reason not all ar playing the same race or same class in other mmo, because people have their own prefferences.

It would also open up for different builds on ships and resources and materials would also be needed at various places of the map where they are more worth for others

The issue is that no matter how well it might be attempted to be balanced, having nation specific anything can quickly (and inadvertently) create a "this nation/ship/skill combo is the fad of the minute".  Then as a Developer, you spend all of your time chasing the latest OP FOTM and constantly getting bad blood with players for nerfs to their favorite combo, as well as bad blood from those that have underpowered combos.  It's just not worth it IMO.

Need a nation without any bonuses, i'll join and prove that these bonuses do not affect anything. 😃
