Open world UI feedback (2018)

Recommended Posts

List of items that will need improvement:

  • Port Button (shape, transparency, outside decorations)
  • Port Name Text + Font + Location (will test different fonts and text location, so they do not overlap)
  • Compass (please make it a classic looking)
  • Ship name and cargo hold interface (will test few things and post my suggestion)
  • Shallows indicator

I will make a suggestion list with examples soon.

Rather than hovering the mouse over the window for the BR of the ships that are in the battle, they could be displayed over the nations flag. If you dont want to put text over the beatiful drawing you could stretch the window a bit. The same applies for ships in a fleet.

'Combat is too far' takes way too much space. It can be inserted inside the image box as red frame with small text indicating 'combat is too far'. All in one. Green frame battle open.

I think neutral ports look to yellow almost like Spanish ports. Also a way to make the port icons on the map larger would be nice.

I have the feeling everyone has his own expectations how the UI has to look like and I doubt that everyone will be satstified in the end regardless of the effort thats put into. But wouldnt it be a solution to make UI available for modding? So Karl who dislikes the compass can download an UI mod that suits more his expectations (for example)?

Agree on the map icon scale, I think they could be a bit larger without detracting from the beauty of the new map (I really like it despite the misspellings ;) ). 

On another front, I'm hating the mouse-over for info on clan and rank when a ship is selected. Can we have an option to click the info button (ala a checkbox) and have it always displayed for those who want a more cluttered but useful interface, and those who want a more spartan interface can still be satisfied with a mouse-over:

Maybe UI dlcs? As an addition to paint dlcs

Not pay2win and gives devs some more money to work with. There are probably people who would spend quite a bit for a "rare" UI look, just like there are people buying golden iphones for a stupid amount of money.

Not been online to test yet but the pictures look nice. Also glad we finally get the option to change the chars name

At open sea it was a bit of a pain moving upgrades (which were nicked from other players) from the hold to the upgrade hold. Maybe a button that allows you to send upgrades immediately there would be useful? "Right click, send to upgrade hold" kind of thing.

Cannot Attack has a Timer in the right window but ongoing battles do not when "cant join battles" is atcive

What i really dislike is the big and pointless , opaque "picture" of a ship when you click on a fleet in OW .. it blocks a quarter (on low res) of my screen and being opaque i can't see anything behind it .. i would much prefer the old one which was semi-transparent

Like others have said FPS and online needs to be moved to the top as it were

And to be honest i liked the old hold management tooltip much better .. altho the new one looks prettier the old one was far more practical and user-friendly

The compas is ok .. i had an issue with the old one coz the compass itself was quite large but the ship model inside it was way to small and i couldn't accurately see my heading as the nose of the little ship was too far away from the compass edge (i have a problem seeing when things are parallel or not)

Did you try from further away? It says you are too close to the center of the battle which even in the old UI would overwrite the timer, saying you are too close.

What about giving fleets a different picture to make "fleets" more obvious

Bring back the old reinforcement size, its way too small right now. 

 

Scale UI feature needed too.

Took a quick look at the UI this morning before heading out to work. My only complaint which is nothing huge is how the chat looks undeveloped and out of place. Nice to see some scaling options down the road as well. That is all.

 

Additional note: In the map window it would be nice to see the menu and the hover over port window to be worked on as well.
