Le Requin Testing and Feedback

Recommended Posts

Damn. Would have liked to test this one but did not get in. In time. Very nice looking ship. Very curious about how this sails. Must be completely and utterly different to the square riggers.

Does it allow either square or triangular rigs to be deployed? Like the one in patick o'briens series.

That was modeled after El Gamo which was a hybrid rig. So some of the larger xebec-frigate could interchange rigs or have elements of both.

Actually it was built by Majorcan builders for the French with Spanish permission, to fight against the British, Sardinian and Genoese corsairs.

Was it a French designer though?

By the way thats how broken "elite pirate rig refit" for the xebec is. And she is not fir/fir.

Elite pirate is wasted on it as it can reach cap with pirate refit. I want to test how if LO/WO one can reach speed cap.

😉 you dont need to test. And what bothers me more than the speed cap is that i am at 85% sail but still doing 15.4

No, the Majorcans established their templates. Boudriot gives this list: 1 master builder and sailmaker, 2 builders, 3 carpenters.

Other cons: should have high crew damage due to low bulwarks and large crew on deck. Even Le Requin as a French design (vs. Algerian etc) should have less strength (side HP) than a comparable sized square rigged ship.

Actually I read back the source for the design: it was concepted by the Majorcan builder Joseph Caubet. Majorcans were the best specialists of xebecs.

At that time France was allied with Tunis and Algiers. The corsairs shouldn't have sailed near the French coasts but they did to hunt other nations. France also had to protect its trade against British and Italian privateers. So the Requin was on coast guard duty. In 1760 she was armed as privateer and in 1761 she captured a snow, a brigantine and two ships, all British. In 1762 as part of a Mediterranean squadron, she was looking for British privateers and Salé Rovers.

The French tactic against the Barbary xebecs was to play on speed and caliber. The Algiers corsairs, focused on boarding, sailed with 400 to 500 men. The French xebecs never fought similarly-sized square-rigged warships. Their main weakness was the necessity to dock when the wind was too strong.

The Maltese built stronger xebecs than the French, but they still didn't fight frigates.

The rigging set up on the Xebec should be much more susceptible to both chain and ball.  A couple well placed shots should disable a lanteen rig as it is not nearly as stout as a square rigger with all its reinforcing stays etc.  As it is right now the Le Requin's sails and rigging seem to hold up even better than most other ships in game.  If I shoot a whole broadside of chain from a bellona onto a le req-- it should blow the rigging right off the xebec.  IMO this is where the Le Requin needs to be nerfed.

Not so.

The rigging on a square ship is made rigid and will not move or give in anyway to shot or shot linked chain and therefore takes more damage.

The lateen rig is much more flexible and forgiving to impact and the sails move with it to create more sliding deflection powers absorbing  and dissipating it's force and so takes less traumatic impact and less damage.

(A bit like a boxer slipping a punch.) It also has much less rigging in which chain can entangle itself and so causes less damage. However it is not as anchored and force generating and so would not be suitable for larger ships such as 4th rates etc.

Mast hits should be the same.

i have the feeling that lateen sails and spankers are still bugged and only dmg to the center is registered

I was thinking on this the other day when we had some one at 65% still out manoverinf and running folks with 80-100% sales.   The 100% doesn’t seem to effect the speed like I would think.  If your at 50% sails and in at 15 Knt ship you should go way slower than 7knts in best wind.  I seen folks keep 8-9 knots with that much sail damage.  The one thing I know they had in common was Spanish rig.  Wonder if sail force is a flare rate off your top speed or it degrades as you loose sails.  I still think you should only repair who’ll in battle sails.  Still annoying folks going full sails while repairing.  That would most likely damage your sails not allow you to repair them.

Before the speed cap me and monkey could do it at 39% sail. ;) Was infuriating for the coast guard.

Yah that means something is wrong, cause you should loose speed and maneuverability if your any where close to half sales or more lost.

When will this Shamec bullshit be stroooongly nerfed?

Will developpers wait all the new players to leave, again?

Always the same error loop:

1- Create a new ship, totally OP.

2- Wait the player base go away.

3- Nerf the OP ship.

4- Makes another OP ship

5- GOTO 1

Calm down. this ship is great.

We need more DLC like this it adds to the game. The herc is OP and is everywhere  but the xebec is ok it has drawbacks,  you just can't change it.......because you can't catch it.

Chill.

It is very simple in Naval Action today. Either you are in a xebec or not.

  1. If you are not in a xebec, your role in game will be limited to be some food for enemy xebecs. You will never win any fight against them. Sometimes you will not lose.
  2. If you are in a xebec, you will choose your fights. As a consequence, you will never lose a fight. Sometimes, you won’t win.

This not due to any player skill, but only due to a stupid modelling by the development team.

Where The Fun?

I can do that in a prince as well. It ain't new.

What is new is that now majority started to use this ship. Before such low br ships were no real ships. A real ship is 3rd up to 1St rate that was the player mentality.

Now xebec is a free ship - click and yolo. Free beer is always good.

And WE asked for it.
