An idea on a fun use of the fleet ship mechanic!

Recommended Posts

Think about this...

You sail out of your port of great Willemstad with your three beautiful fir/fir surprises to give some pirates a surprise (giggle). The witty dutchie you are decides to leave two surprises at the west tip of La Tortue. And off you go!

On your sail to the pirate capital you spot; not one.. but 2 pirating constitutions... Oh no! set the handkerchiefs...! The constitutions give chase... and off to your reinforcements you flee... Once you get within their close quarters you merge with them and face off the constitutions in a glorious exchange of iron!

I'm talking about a mechanic that allows you to leave your fleet ship along your travels and it stays there as an AI ship that can be attacked and will defend itself. Which would be limited by your crew limit. Make the combat range of the AI ship and the player controlled ship merge when they touch so that you can use the range of the AI ship to trigger a combat.

This would allow players to make use of the fleet system in every aspect of the game:

- Traders can bring escort fleet battle ships they leave at a distance from their destination to meet up with after their trading is done, or flee to if it all goes south...

- PvPers can set traps or get reinforcements quicker in far away waters.

- PvEers could bring several ships for battles and leave behind what they don't need to guard the area or switch ship after battle. Or have somewhere to flee to.

The ship would remain active if u die away from it until it you can get to it with another ship or it gets destroyed. And hopping between ships when merged should be possible, though merging should only be possible when the 2 ships are really close.
