Remove ability to attack within 15 minutes of server maintenance

Recommended Posts

The attack button should be disabled for all ships on the server within 15 minutes of server close so that people can’t take advantage of slower traders, etc coming into port because of the mx requirement to log out, etc.

I was tagged at 7 minutes to server close last night and it basically ruined my night because we aren’t supposed to be starting new battles, were supposed to be finishing the battles we are in and then logging off.  I suffered 3 mil in lost ships and goods.  The worst is he didn’t even target me, he just went after the PVE traders in my fleet.  So tagged all in the last 15 minutes to sink two AI traders and be awarded no PVP points.  That’s abusing the system and it should be stopped by turning off the attack button before server maintenance shut downs.

anyone have any thoughts?

you can also call it a weakness in the system because traders use that window for easy transport for easy money or easy transport, this is also wrong

think about it this way, expect to get attacked no matter the time or location, and use an escort

What it sounds like is you took a risk and sailed high value goods because it was right before maintenance. Someone caught you and even though maintenance was just minutes away, they managed to sink your AI fleets before time ran out. To my mind that is the system working perfectly, and a good job to the player who caught you.

Actually more like was 3/4 of way thru sail when mx was called.  Did not use it advantage or even think about it.  I was rushing to port, caught in headwind tacking, and in this case he had exited a battle that was already supposed to be ending.  So he just was taking advantage of his location.  It’s not like I got to run, it was a port battle at the mouth of CT while MX was called and he excited the battle only to tag me 30 seconds later.  That’s an exploit.  He would not of actually of had the opportunity to tag me if not for that battle and him exiting 500m at my stern.   It was absolutely predatory but not in the sport of the game.  There is a thing as fair chase or sport.  7 mins to server shut down is not it.

If you got attacked at any other point of the day the end result would have been the same/ worse. The server shut down lets anyone for the most part be very safe because they only have to survive till shut down where they would normally die.

You are free to complete all trade runs 30 minutes before server shut down but that’s not what you want, is it?

If you’re on the water, you should be fair game. If you survive until shut down, you will be on open water at the same location when you relog.

I did survive as I had the weather gage and sailed up wind, so that’s why he took it out on my poor Indiamen trying to make an escape as AI traders.  Long story short the whole thing shouldn’t of happened.  He shouldn’t tag PVP end of night and only sink someone’s PVE ships.  Maybe if he wanted live bait he should of stuck with me and not pick on my slow and unmanuverable undermanned AI ships.

Clearly all who are against THE LAST 15 MINUTES BEING ATTACK FREE are those who wish for easy targets.   I never said the first 15 minutes couldn’t allow it.  Just the very last bit to allow everyone both trader and PVP a player a chance to exit the game without creating artificial situations that would not of existed sans maintenance.

You clearly want to trade safe on a certain time of day, this is not how a pvp server works

I'm a trader, not a hunter.  To bad about your loss, but that's part of the danger of the PvP server.

Sounds like you should fly a smuggler flag and head into the nearest port immediately when you see the server maintenance warning.  To do otherwise may be risky.   Or plan your voyage to arrive at your destination earlier.

It's your choice.  We won't improve the game by adding more restrictions to everyone else just to keep you safe.

Reading comprehension helps gentlemen.  All of this “you want a safer game” blah blah blah couldn’t be further from the truth.  In fact I won the battle, he punked out going after the AI traders.  Maybe if he wanted PVE he shouldn’t of tagged me PVP?

I also don’t think I need to have this feature, it would be a nice to have and has nothing to do with safety, in fact quite the contrary.  It has to do with fairness.  When the server message comes up it changes everyone’s gameplay, it’s an artificial environment at that point and some think it would be more fair to discourage attacks within the last few minutes.

Just as many of you have said, “well you just want free trading at a certain time of day.”  That makes no sense.  I spend all that time trading during normal PVP times, so suddenly I need the last 15 minutes free?  No no no.  This is to stop weaker hunters who exploit the fact it’s shutting down.  In fact in reverse you could say that some hunters can’t find targets without waiting until server shut downs, but we know that is not true right?

I can see some are becoming hostile about it, it’s a good suggestion, I wish to bow out of the subject and not debate if I’m looking for safety, or an easier game, or any other nonsensical responses to a simple suggestion.  If the developers use the suggestion, great, if not, I’ll keep the weather gage and sail upwind.  Thanks for everyone’s time.

So the player tagged you and attempted to sink you.

Realizing he could not, he went for one of your fleets instead? I don't see anything wrong here.

Both trading and pvp should be open right up until downtime. One could say if you want to avoid pvp before downtime, do not sail out of a port.

Very interesting thread, both sides. I will say I really never thought about it before. I too play as an American and merchant capt. Simply because of real life timing I have also had a trade run ending just before server maintenance. I've always thought that it is one of the worst times for trying to enter a major port, too many enemys lurking around the mouth of the harbor wanting to catch captains just like me. I have often had that little voice in my head, "Just a little bit further and I'm home safe.", listening to it has gotten me in trouble more than once. My answer has been to head back out to sea till I'm just out of sight of land and log out, that way I can usually finish my run before I go to work or when I come home at a time more advantageous to me. I also some times change course and head to another port that is less watched by the hunters. No matter how I feel or what I think I am simply prey for them and they want to wreck my day. It's my job as a merchant capt. to not let them. CT is always dangerous. You should have seen it a year or so ago when pirates and a bunch of other factions, based out of the freeports of that time, skulked around hunting all the time. I do see what the OP is saying but I really don't have an answer except to think like a clubber and adjust your sailing accordingly. If they move the attack time the hunters will simply adjust to it. If you are sailing an Indiaman or an LGV have a human manned warship meet you to escort you in. It works every time.

I hope this has been helpful.

Stay safe and fair sailing all.
