well just sailed a indiaman , but they are bad sailers 45 degrees upwind and death in the water :(

it needs 2 extra slots,-  and better gunnery--(24pounders)

if this is not the case ,you won't see them in AI form 

never.... 

they are just to easy to kill in a AI battle 

 

Also the indiaman is the biggest underestimated and nerved  ship in this game

no!,.. no nead

read mine to and have your answer:

that's why you don't see them in battle as AI

thats why you dont see them

They are fine ships and AI can use them too. They do require escort. Only a silly sailor would sail alone. Indiaman with 2 Essex would be ideal npc fleet.

Indiamen carry twice the cargo of any other trader.  That means very useful to player traders.  An AI Indiaman would be a great find for a player to attack and "get rich quick"  Make it hard to board and/or kill, giving some challenge and dropping nice loot....Maybe ransom some important passengers.

i agree, it is a misplaced ship

(defs need to look at it again,. i honestly think because it is not only a trader ,but also a war ship [5 slotsinstyead of 3] )

actually it is not word carrying that class name 

its halve a class

hauler- used as a burner,-  and warship.

They simply could buff it's armor and guns when Ai is alive, but reset it's stats to default when killed and available for capture.

well they can make some content for the indiaman

a "special " (somewhere on the ow map sailing around )

where you have a fleet of sol and frigates and indiaman combined in a ow fleet sailing somewhere

and where  you can sink that fleet ,and as a bonus a indiaman with goodies !

Sometimes it’s easier to capture the bigger ones... then hunt the smaller ones...

If they buff the Indiaman i will legitimately use it as a pvp ship. I mean you can carry way more repairs and hide in every port with smuggler flag.

Indiaman is a merchant vessel and should stay that way.  AI Indiamen would be fun and maybe have lots of goodies.  Now what you are talking about is more of a Q Ship.  These ships had the same armour and speed deficiencies as a regular merch, but were heavily armed with large crews.  A very unpleasant surprise for some overconfident commerce raider.

I could see them maybe making a refit version like the LVG with less cargo space but put more guns on it and such.  For most of my hauling any way I would be happy with just the same crago  space as an LVG/Trade Brig and more armor and guns for hauling goods in more dangerous waters.

The same happens with Bucentaure, Ocean, Trincomalee, Endymion, Indefatigable, Hermione... We have the same NPCs for almost 2 years now. Must be hard to code more ow fleet variety.

This OW AI fleets are some of the missing content. Indiamans, traders escorted by strong battle ships. We have seen the behaviour of AI in tutorial so they can make battle ships stay close to traders, so you can not seperate and pick one at a time.

As Devs keep denying and behaving blind, this game still has enormous PVE coop plus PVP generating chance. Just send spawn, those ai fleets, announce them on screen, British fleet arriving X town, abeam Y town. So chance to intercept by other nations for good rewards, chance for Brits to be rewarded by Queen, and PVP marks and loot all around.
