Next big patches: Real currency and Open world user interface update

Captains.
Next 2 patches 3 important things await us.

Featured clans and rookie order list

  • In addition to combat tutorials all freshly minted Master and commanders will get a short mission list that they will have to next
  • One of the orders will be to join a clan (this will only be provided to players who are not in a guild).
    • Featured clan list will be added to game and only top clans will be on the list based on pve or pvp or conquest or epic event achievements. 
  • We also request veterans and large clans invite people who passed the final exam to guilds and fleets (you can see their names in chat) he/she is definitely good enough to go straight to pvp. 
     

Open world UI update
Partial UI update will be added to game for testing mostly covering the open world functionality and the map

Real currency and denomination
Current name for in game currency is outdated (it was always only for temp name).
The game will move to a Caribbean currencies of the 18th century

  • New currencies
    • In game gold will be replaced by Real (or Spanish reals)
    • Pieces of eight will be introduced (or 8 Reals Coin or piastr)
    • Double Escudo or Doublooon (or Lous D`Or  or Pistole) will be introduced
    • Silver 8 Reals and gold double escudo will be freely convertible between each other, but they can only be received from the government (as rewards for battles or port battles or from mint)
  • Money will be denominated (huge denomination will be applied reducing prices to the 18th Century Caribbean levels)
  • New building will be introduced - mint. Mint will be required tomake coins and will require victory marks to build
  • Crafting blueprints updated for ships and shipbuilding materials
  • Mission rewards/pve rewards/pvp rewards changed
  • Old legacy coins and ingots removal
    • Current Gold Coins and Silver Coins will be removed from game (you can start dumping them or use for craft if you have huge stocks) and stocks left will be compensated at denominated prices
    • Current gold ingots and silver ingots will be removed from game and mines will be removed (and building costs compensated)

I hate being so jaded but can I ask the obvious question: Why spend time adding multiple currencies with all the complexities of managing them and using them for economic activities rather than spending time on content aimed at keeping people interested in the game (proper pirate mechanics, PvE missions e.g. exploration, player-generated PvP missions e.g. raids, blockades, escorts, etc. etc.)?

I don't understand new currency system at all. Sounds cool and more historical, but it's hard to understand the concept. Please, share more information about the implementation. What will be the conversion ratio? Is it ok to have a  lot of gold now and wait for conversion or better spend/invest it? 

I remember some previous conversions were very unfair, as for Conquest Marks and PvP marks on removal.

that would be louis d'or (no capital).

Here is a French wiki link about all the French money at the time:

Pistole is only the French name of the Spanish gold coin: Doblón which was also called doublon in French.

It seems intriguing to introduce those new things out of the blue while we were mainly expecting a new UI... and since as you told us you only have 2 developers...

You have my attention and cant wait to see the game to have the new ui fully implemented. If done in pieces I can see this helping attract some old and new faces.

Sounds a bit like realmoney for some Reals(gold) Wot style. But i hope that it is only to get more variation in the prices.

and get rid of "inflation effect" with players having 100m gold.

no 

We have no plans to sell in game currency for money. and will never have this feature in game. You can hold up to this in the future.

No. We are focused on the priorities and normalizing the economy is part of it. We have full clarity now on things needed for release and this plan is set.
Also please NO backseating.
This is a topic about whats coming and if you have suggestions on something else post this in the suggestions forum. This topic is for asking questions on issues mentioned in the post.

This concerns you too @Wraith. No backseating in patch discussions!.

Not really sure that was back seating...it was a valid question I think in regards to the priority of development.  I mean it's stuff no one has requested vs stuff everyone seems to be requesting.  

An issue most of us are very interested in.

Please talk about 3 issues in the topic.
If you have ideas - there is a suggestions section. We have not asked your opinion on priorities in this topic. There are /were and will be multiple other topics on this (as we asked about priorities since 2013).
Thus No backseating.

How will the mission PvE/PvP reward look like?  

And will this changed apply to OW hunting too, PvE/PvP also cause of the word mission?

Might be time to introduce treasure fleets for all nations.

for example the French pay chests have to be escorted from Esteros to New Orleans, if they arrive safely the escorting Players receive a reward. If the fleet is attacked and captured the attackers receive the booty, could generate a lot of PVP, with different nations trying to get the treasure fleet, do you attack the fleet, or the attackers when the fleet is captured.

With 11 nations on the map, These fleets could appear at regular  intervals but from and to random ports, and it is up to the Nation to provide an escort, the other nations could get wind of the fleet by capturing OW AI fleets of that Nation and reading the logs.

 Hope this is the sort of Thing you are thinking about.

Is there some sort of differentiation intended between clan / guild / fleet or are these interchangeable labels?
