PVP missions. A huge Success?

Recommended Posts

Not to call it early, but these PVP missions have been going off. I'm actually surprised how popular they are as I rarely ever NOT see anyone in the zones. Tons of huge fights happening, tons of ships sinking and lots of rewards being dished out.

I must ask does regular pvp even have a chance? These battles consolidate all things PVP without the negatives. No hour long chases, no constant outnumbering for the most part, everyone is in it for the fight and we get great battles because of it. Opinions, on these zones? Do you love them, hate them, do you want to see more? Share below.

edit: sorry I don't know why this is in suggestions

For me the pvp event zones are nothing special. Hardcore moba like it is doesnt appeal to me so for me they are of no use. But like admin said people that are looking for instant action will love them while the others will still sail in ow for the thrill and the unknown.

I still wonder there wasnt a Patrol Zone around Aves/the Antilles.

maybe they calculated chances for zones to drop by player acivity and antilles has lowest player numbers therefore lowest chance to drop?

That's the thing, I'm still sailing ow doing everything a normal PVPer is doing, except I get battles faster and more often and I'm getting rewarded for my damage done so even if I don't win I'm still working towards something.

Besides that it's no different from a regular OW battle, the ROE is just a little different.

Ok the idea seems to have been proven somewhat...   now lets integrate it into the 'war' aka RVR...

The difference to OW between patrol is the Yolo attitude in patrol battles. Thats why I dislike  moba. They are like fleet pratice with reward. Both dont appeal to me. I dont fight for reward i fight for the thrill.

Why not? have these outside all pb's for example..

The current mess is just a meaningless arena match, adding these outside pb's as part of the screen would in some degree increase the war effort and reward

I like it

But I dont think the planned way of limiting ganks is the way to go.

Quote

What we found is that players in patrol zones prefer to join the bigger side which is underlined by the no-exit fight to the death rule. This results in most battles to end up (25)vs(1-5) players. To solve this we will implement the following feature for testing.

  • Patrols will have an individual BR limit - a-la port battle limit.
    • For example: Nassau Patrol: 1200 BR limit
  • Patrol area battle will start as is, if you have 25 players in a pull circle all will be sent to a battle
  • BUT… once battle starts additional players will only be able join the side that has not exceeded the limit.
  • Thus only weaker side will be able to be reinforced, resulting in more interesting diverse experiences, increasing variability of ships.

This way a 4v1 can still be joined by more on the side of 4 guys.

The way it should me in my opinion:

  • First, battle is open for 2 - 3 minutes for anyone to join.
  • After that, a special BR-Rule applies. Players can only join sides until they have reached 1.5 times the BR of the enemy team.
  • This way, if Side A gets more reinforcments, Side B can also get reinforcments over time.

This would also adress the stupid Princes tagging frigates to just run upwind and wait for his half a dozen frigate mates to join in minutes later.

Edit: Omg I'll never understand the Quote feature on this forum. My comment starts @ "The way.."

I agree. People will always join the stronger side or keep looking for an other battle only if they are in a grp that would fill the missing BR they may join.

It may funny if you only could press join and you get randomly assigned (in a balanced way) to a side regardless of your nation.

Why join the ganking or winning side when rewards are based on damage dealt. You are actually limiting your chance of earning a reward. It's beyond me.

As predicted they just turned into gank zones.  Battles that aren’t over until someone loses sounds good on paper, but all it means is hey I got 3 people in battle, let’s call in some friends.

I had fun the first couple of days, but now it’s just meh.  Why bother.  Nothing to spend my marks on and knowing I’m gonna go out there and not find fair/winnable fights just gives me no motivation to care

I enjoyed the PVP event zones of a year ago much better

You keep wanting to do things about RvR you want to know the first step of how you do RvR?   ATTACK PORTS.   When was the last time Brits really attacked a port that wasn't neutral or Polish?

But if your really into RvR than I guess I'll see you at the port battle later this eve?

No you won't, if i am in the area at all it will be for the screen (nvm i won't be coming to the bahamas)  I don't enjoy pb's, too busy avoiding being run into to be effective is my experience.  I want to see a reason for these new patrols apart from 'just a fight' thats wot, nal, wows etc, it doesn't have a place in a game supposedly about conquest.

Thats history. Current game goal is making pvp a valid way to make (your own) progress. What we can start asking is to make the game a 3 way to heaven game. Therefore pvp al a moba, rvr a la meaningful conquest in dynamic campaigns and pve a la crafting. That are 3 ways to progress yourself. 3 Ways that should be equal hard to achieve. (unequal we saw over the past years as pve was more rewarding as pvp)

PvP patrols are trash. They are bite sized, junk food, arena content meant to appease the Legends crowd that aren't getting their game.  They have no place in the OW game and should be replaced by options for more meaningful, player-generated PvP "zones" or missions, ala Raids, Escorts, Hunt and Seek, etc.  PvP zones are just all-day versions of the Events that were shown to reduce open world PvP the last time they were in the game.  They were rehashed because implementing them had already been done.  It's lazy content in other words.

Actually you can press "mission" -> join fleet practice :D so you really dont need to leave port.

PVP zones and OW pvp are the same thing, prove me wrong.

Honestly, I wish they'd appease the "PvP-Only, PvP-Now" crowd by just adding small battles, large battles, and leaderboards that you can access through the in-port user interface and keep the arena stuff completely out of the OW. Make the battles lossless and grant no rewards, and if you want better ships, more crew/rank, and gear to take to your arena content you get to play the real game.

What is the "real game" in your eyes? To me there is no difference between sailing around capitals looking for PVP and sailing around PVP zones looking for PVP. One takes longer and is considered hardcore, the other is easier to find and is considered moba action legends trash. Why is that?

The RoE is completely different. The fact that you have to sail from Tumbado for a couple minutes to get to the PvP zone is essentially irrelevant.

If you've bothered to do any OW hunting, scouting trade routes, haunting bays, running in gank squads, infiltrating forward enemy positions and finding gaps in safe zones to kill people while figuring out ways to escape the coast guard... that's OW PvP.  The PvP zones, events, patrols, whatever the dev's want to call them, is essentially just an inefficient lobby system.
