Chance of crafting a special ship

Recommended Posts

I have a feeling that chances of crafting a special trim got reduced in last patch. Crafted 6 or 7 ships in the last few days and noone had a special. Maybe i just had no luck, but i fear the feature i love just got nerfed to please the small but loud lobby who dont like this feature. Lets talk about reasonable chances for "special". I understand that it has to be rare enough to not make people trow away normal ships, but on the other hand if they are too rare, only the richest people will sail them what in fact would mean to restrict this feature to wealthy Power(PvP)players.

To call some numbers:

i think the chance for a special trim should be around 1/3

chance for 4/5 slots should be 1/10 and chance of 5/5 should be 1/100.

That means the chance for a 5/5 with a special trim would be 1:300 what seems enough to prevent crafting ships until you have the best. And be aware that there is still a big chance you have a special trim that not really fits to the purpose you want.

Maybe the chances should be even better ...

Lets discuss ...

No, it is just very heavy RNG. Right after this change was added, I crafted 15 ships without getting anything special.

A clan mate yesterday crafted a 4/5/fast trinc followed by 3/5/very fast. It is just luck.

Same seems to apply to captured NPC Vessels. The first days it seemed to be interesting ones, offering different woods, plankings and the "city-boni" as well as eventually more slots. The last days I captured a lot of ships just to find them all be planked as Crew Space with the rest below average (gray, green or blue, 1-3 perma slots).

RNG doesn't seem to work all too well:)

Imho, the chance to craft superior ship should remain low. In this way expectation but also frustration will stay low. Most importantly, rng feature encourage crafting and therefore economy. This also provides a bit of a kick for dedicated crafters.

Nothing got nerfed it's just the RGN gods hating you. I have one purple ship that is 4/5 with a perk so far and have gotten two 4/5 blue ships.  Every thing else is blue with perks or nothing at all just normal builds. I don't even try to build for the perks/bonsu I build what I need and if I get lucky I get lucky.   To many folks are crafting to get that one golden ship and they are just bruing through mats.  WHich if fine if your going to put all them ships up for dirt cheap and not over charge the crap out of them. I know a clan mate that made over a dozen cerberus to get something with the fast perk on it and he put all them up for dirt cheap to help lower level players get into ships.

Yes, increasing with shipyard size which I imagine having more specialists and machinery for crafting better ships (not only bigger ones).

RNG in crafting is a cancer. Keep it extremely minimal otherwise what little balance you have in crafting disappears. Be careful what you ask for, in other words...

well the biggest issue I have with rng is that the odds are hidden and can be adjusted down to the nation, player, ship level or by any other metric by the devs at any time.  Not such a big deal when no real money is involved.
