Fun PVE for everyone?!

Recommended Posts

Why good pve content is needed?

To have something to do while the game has low numbers (holidays, before and after maintenance, at night...). When there are no players, content in NA is not enough.

For cater all those players with little time either those who only want to see a beatiful ship of the age of sail into action (historians, modelers...)

Because a sandbox/mm game needs to offer a bit of everything to keep their players interested in the long term.

What pve content do I propose?

-Challenges from the tutorial: move them also to the missions tab.

-Exploration: get rewarded by visiting ports and discovering places like guacata, salamanca, lake maracaibo, the bay of cartagena, secret island...

-Trading: every port should spawn random ressources/missions/... so it will promote moving around looking for opportunities.

-Sealed bottles: improve their rewards. Not worth at the moment.

-A new feature: the lookout. Activated with a button like fishing, the lookout will look for events in the open world (a shoal of fish, a fire at the horizon, a strange ship, a wreck, a ship beached in the coast...)

-Epic individual ships: same as epic events but only spawn one ship.

-Fleet convoys of indiamans: scorted by some warships, capturing them will give a good amount of already crafted materials to build your favorite ships.

-Crafting: some slice bars is a boring activity. Building a ship could be far more interesting and visually appealing.

Discuss.

Fixes:

Fleet variety: We still dont see ships like bucentaure, ocean, rattle, niagara, hermione, wasa in the fleet composition of missions and ow fleets.

AI of npc ships: they beached themselves quite easily.

Saludos

The PVE is completely forgotten, and no attention is paid to it. It is a platform with enormous potential that with very little dedication, the public that does PVE and DOES NOT LIKE AND DOES NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING OF PVP could have a wonderful game. Things that could be done to erase the pirate nation for the players and leave it for NPC and these that attack the ships that they consider. Let the nations go to war randomly. That there is a more dynamic and interesting trade. Make the construction of boats and weapons more interesting. etc. But after 1,300 hours of waiting my patience is reaching the limit and like many others I think more and more that the PVE will never become an appreciable reality, everything that is done in this game is directed to the PVP, making my confidence disappear day a day. regards

PvE is braindead grinding ONLY at this point.

It aint fun, it is completely repeating and I personally stopped to do it at all, i am grinding my slots in PvP.

Poor souls who cannot do that.... I do understand why PvE players rate this game very poorly, not much has changed there since EA Steam launch.

I am not going into the epic missions, as i focus on single player content in this post.
Also, with all due respect, just pumping base values to make it "epic" is in my eyes not the proper, good game design i am looking for in NA.

---------------------------------------------------

Lets be constructive:

Bring different type of missions, some easier then current missions for the soft hearted and some harder for diehards.

Easy setting (lower kill reward):
- No boarding attempts.
- No single shooting your stern.
- Less ships in Fleet Mission.

Diehard setting (higher kill reward):
- Bring in repairs for AI ships (one of each type) for the harder missions.
- Make them chain if you drive away.
- Make them go for leaks if you show your belly.
- Make them single shooting your masts with charged shots.
- Give em Poods.
- More ships in Fleet Mission.

Mission types:
- Patrol mission as the Devs want it for PvP, but for PvE hunting OW fleets.
- Attack a convoy type, sink a specific ship.
- Boarding mission, board a ship bring it home, sink the rest.
- And yes, please bring the something similar to the exams into mission play.

All to be seen as IMHO - i am not really PvE player - this is more what a PvP player would wish to see in PvE.

It is in NA for so far, but it can be improved!

I hope devs just want to finish mechanics and UI first, before they commit themselves to create diverse PvE content that is fun!

Btw. @Intrepido and @sveno:

I like your ideas!

I would like to have PvE storm challenges and convoi missions in which AI attacks you added!

I like PvE as I am doing it on the PvE server. With the idea I proposed some time ago, about NPC ships attacking you at certain conditions and when you chose so in the options menu, it would be even better.

Basically I like all ideas of this thread.

It’s a good idea for the PVE server, but I’d hate to see that on the PVP one since the last thing I want is for my chase to be interrupted by AI.

Refresh the map once a week with "discorevies" placed in different remote areas : (those discoveries are not displayed publicly)

- Sunk wrecks ==> give coffres

- Beach or coast wrecks ==> give documents such as "purchase deliveries", to bring to a defined port and get for free goods or ships note.

- Floatting wrecks (epidemic) ==> give cannons, repairs if war ship or goods if trader, with possibility to get the ship itself into fleet.

- Floatting wrecks (pirate trap) ==> direct boarding, option fight or escape, if win same rewards as above + marks

- Small coast villages ==> can trade:  rare goods, rare knowledges, permits, blueprints & repairs at low prices.

Many ideas could be found and would boost the PVE/sailing.

You've touched on a subject that has been pretty much forgotten by the development team of this game.  Good MMOs live and die by how well their PVE content is done, which I guess explains why NA has sold 110k+ copies of the game and it's main server barely cracks 600 players during prime time.  Simply put, this game lacks variety of content and does not keep it's PVE/Casual players engaged.  While I can appreciate changes to the PVP system and new PVP missions are a good step, we need to be honest here and realize that MAYBE 20-30% of the population actively goes out and hunts for PVP.  Probably less.  Your average casual player gets off of work, only has a couple hours to play in the evening after the family goes to sleep and he logs on....bangs out a couple of missions before he has to log off again.  He does not have time to go out and hunt for a couple of hours.  Not every player in this game is Moscalb.  We need to stop developing it as such.

This type of player has been sorely forgotten and these types of players are the bread and butter of MMOs.  We have no bread and butter.

Mission variety is key.  Escort/Delivery/Trade/Bounty missions.  Something please.  The same old tired AI are beyond stale.

Functional economy.  Ours is not.  I don't know the answer here.

Functional crafting.  This system is a joke compared to other games.  Crafters should be forced into specializations or skill trees.  One craft should not be able to craft EVERYTHING in this game.  Frigate experts, SOL experts...cannons only.  You get the idea.  This would create a need for other players to combine their efforts in clans rather than just have 1 dude and an alt handle it.

With a more engaging and stable PVE system, people will continue the play the game beyond the 1 month post patch mark.

It's cool that we're focusing so much of our efforts into RVR and PVP, but really it won't matter if people quite the game and get bored.  Sharks need prey and if you only cater to the population of the sharks, you'll run out of fish.

-------------

Another note.  We gotta get rid of all these nations.  11 nations for a player base that doesn't crack 700 people on average.  This. is. absurd.  The game is so diluted at this point it's not even funny.

Maybe @admin reads this.

PvE is trash.

It even has got its own server, where about 20% of all players feel save from PvP:)

But of course there should be more PvE and solo content implemented asap.

Yet a few other ideas to start with:

========================================================================

Missions

========================================================================

Combining the tutorial with a mission-/quest-line that sends players from a remote start position to his nations capital and offer missions into the world from there, once the tutorial is finished and the Master & Commander Rank is gained.

- seek and destroy (similar to the current Combat Orders)

- delivery of passengers, orders, goods,... (given to the player) to another port (with requirements to the ship, the captain the fleet, eg. have a freighter or passenger cabin). Higher ranked missions could start a battle encounter...

- (on PvP Server) Bounties on Ships (or Captains) depending on their hostility

- economic missions: Deliver certain goods somewhere or support the current town with them.

- exploration missions. Find certain landmarks, events, towns, treasures, sorts of fish...

- escort missions: get a ship to fleet and encounter one or more battle encounters

========================================================================

Open World

========================================================================

- Having AI fleets to attack under certain circumstances (based on hostility or some sorts of blockades) (yes I see your point Percival, I also don't like the police interrupting my bank robberies^^)

- make trading (1), crafting (2), travelling (3) more interesting and rewarding.

- (1) tune the existing economy. Make small towns have small demands too, have them offering some specials (permits, skill books, marks, ...)

- (2) the system could be expanded by a "skill-tree" e.g. dividing into ships (>agile/fast/armor/stronger masts/... > with better boni), materials (consuming less lh, less resources, ... > allowing better > special components)  and guns (mediums>longs>carros>unicorns, or even adding boni to them (acc/dmg/rld/...). This could be very promising.

- (3) Fill the world world with the variety, danger and beauty it offers. Implement points of interest at historical and random locations. Reward their discovery

- have a bit higher spawn rate on NPC fleets or add new "lines"

...

So, please Developers: be fast with Legends for Otto. But for the rest of us, please bring PvE content.

it's about 100 players simultaneously online.  That's the ones that don't share your point of view at all and accept to miss parts of the game to avoid PvP at all. There also are lots of player who would like to have the "full game", but don't like to come across people who immediately kill them and leave the entire game instead of giving it another try on PvE server.

As @Coraline Vodka stated, the more players, the better. And if they like PvE more, they won't join a (team-)deathmatch game.

Guys

We are not electronic arts and are not going to bullshit you with promises.
Here is a truth

  • Initially there were no bots in game even; they were added only to test combat model faster.
  • We do not understand why we are held to a high standard on PVE content as we never promised amazing pve content. We always advertised focusing on amazing combat, amazing sailing, beautiful ships but never on PVE. Initial version of the game were pvp only and bots were always considered to be just food to quickly test your ship and sail to pvp. This focus was lost somewhere on the way …
  • We opened PVE server purely because pve players asked us to open it saying that "we want a separate pve server and nothing more". When we announced a pve server we took a huge rep hit in the community because initially we said we are pvp only. We kept this promise to pve players, opened pve server as we always keep our promises to players. But if it was not for this promise PVE server would already be closed.
  • Additional PVE content is possible only if the game becomes popular, because only then we can hire more people to focus on pve

Current focus is on tutorial, UI and localization, that will greatly improve the game and new player experience..
We don't have extra people and no additional content is possible anywhere else, except for those three things.

PVE discussions can be closed and reopened when ui localization gets in game, until then you will have to wait. And please judge us on our promises, not PVE desires, attacking us for bad pve you are bashing us for something we did not promise.

no - you are mistaken. There are multiple examples of successful games where there is no pve whatsoever (and of course there are also great games with no pvp whatsoever).

Latest example is PUBG. What will lead to more players is even clearER messaging. As we cannot do multiple things with 2 programmers.

I understand your reasons and agree with your priorities. But let me mention: almost no one expects PVE in a arena game like PUBG, but in a Open world game every one expects a world full of life ... if you cant provide life by other players, provide simulated life ...

Your opinion. I think he's actually right. I dont know any sandbox MMO game without PvE content but I didnt played many. Can you name some?

Also, I'm not bashing on you but with the world growing bigger such as yours, PvE content should grow also for the times when PvP becomes rare and people search for another activities. If you would bring something interesting PvE wise to buid/rebuild players assets after a loss, that would help the game a lot. Otherwise I dont see a reason to keep this beautifull world so big and with 11 nations.
