I'm probably wrong, but you may be sailing too close to ports. If in enemy waters in a battle-built ship, stay away from coasts, hunt farther out. :)

Tell that to the swedes I was stalking and the polish that were escorting them. Like they needed it,.

Look at the rewards, you dont need to farm anymore. Just find an enemy and try to max damage.

So i risk a Teak/Teak Renomee with 4 or 5 perma upgrade slots, with Copper Plating, Gazelle, Elite French Rig, etc.. and some bonus Trim.... for a Random Ship Note

Nice deal :D loooolllll, everything in this game focuses on maximizing ships efficiency, so a brand new blank ship wont reduce "ship preservance".

the thing that always bothered me about pvp, back to wow days...  is that pvp usually means player A gets in battle with something he expects to put up a fight (an npc) then gets stabbed in the back by a leet pvp'n chest beater...

I think the only real pvp in the gaming world comes in the arena games and will never be much of a thing in mmo's which offer pve and rpg elements.

Just use a AI shop ship to get in those brawls: dirty cheap fun + marks.

A good change, I suggest that damage giving meaningful rewards gets extended to normal PVP.

To sustain PvP one needs a resource flow to buy ship/mods and some kind of incentive to engage in it, even if one loses. Also a mechanism to prevent a snowball from turning into an avalanche would be nice, the inverse of the present PVP reward system.

At the moment PvP is self perpetuating and self reinforcing for the gankers who have org mates and stacked builds that limit losses, but the 70%-80% fodder needs to be supplied with the means to sustain and advance in PvP stack building as well or else it becomes a pure tax on casuals and they leave the game.

Most importantly there needs to be meaningful reward for inflicting damage. Right now, with the gang bang speed meta, most fights are decided before the first shot is fired. Engagements are only sought when having an overwhelming advantage and the losing side often might as well save time and surrender. Sticking around for a few hundred XP is not worth the time.

Allow casuals to build up resources before engaging in PVP. The safe zones do that fairly well IMO for newbs, but it could extended for the intermediate and advanced levels by allowing players to run OW NPC traders on their own account. This would mean the outpost limit would need to be extended, but IMO would provide much meaningful gameplay, give new meaning to free ports, allow things like trade routes and focus everybody more on the combat side of things.

Please consider imposing anti-ganking measures. PB's might offer a model. Fighting a roughly comparable but superior ship is one thing, fighting 3-4 is another. Extend the OW Battle timer but impose a BR limit on OW battles like with Port Battles. Make it attacked BR + 50% or something, with a minimum of the attacking ship being able to join. Defenders can join to attacker BR+50%, then more attackers can join as well etc..

Big groups would still have an advantage, heavies will still want to sail in groups as defence against frigate ganking and group battles would still be encouraged, while the raiding groups have an incentive to have several ships with BR spreads instead of only 1-2 meta builds. But fighters willing to take on superior opponents (in BR terms) get rewarded and everybody has at least more of a chance of something of fair fight than with the current system.

And nobody forces you to do PvE with missions. PvE aspect is only the side part of PvP mission. You do 5000k dmg in PvP and if you dont find any, you still can sink few AI's for the PvE reward so you wont feel like you lost time. If you dont want to do that then no problem. Sail back to port or try to find PvP somwhere else.

Well, you do have to PvE to unlock upgrades and get books.  So unless you want to sail very disadvantaged, you need to do a lot of PvE.

Hello Captains

We already announced the changes that will improve the hostility missions and victory mark distribution in game, giving everyone equal footing. Individual port ownership will grant you victory marks and even owning one port will make your conquest efforts count. You will no longer be limited by your nation capabilities and your small clan can influence the conquest, and get rewarded even if you are the only clan in your nation.

Now it is time to improve pvp itself.

In one patch a new type of mission will be added to the game. This mission will completely change the mechanics and motivation behind progression and will route the player to one of the most fun and varied activity in the game.

PvP missions will reward player based on the damage he was able to inflict on enemy shipping. PvP missions will reward the player with ships, repairs and small amount of pvp marks. The goal is to remove gear fear from pvp and motivate fighting, not ship preservance.

Example of the mission for the light frigates

La Mona Naval Patrol

  • Captain: Your task is to inflict as much damage as possible on the enemy players shipping in the designated areas of the Caribbean. Running is discouraged, preservation of your vessel is not important! Assigned ships Cerberus, Renomme, Surprise.
  • Goal: Inflict 5000 damage on enemy shipping in the area.
  • Rewards: Random light frigate note, 30 rig repairs, 30 hull repairs, 250 rum, 5 pvp marks, combat ready upgrade, some money for fitting and guns.

The player will have to arrive to the designated area, damage enemy ships and probably sink as a result, but he will learn something. Of course due to 2.5x pvp xp bonuses he will be leveling up faster and such navy patrols will help him recover losses.

This feature will be further underlined by the fact that tutorial master exam will award the player with the M&C rank making him immediately useful + such missions will route him to the most fun activity in game.

Discuss.

Oh.

So you did Listen for a Change.

Too bad I didnt pay attention for the last Month.

Well no matter. Its better to be Late than to miss it out entirely.

I Greatly Approve of this Idea.

This will Finally Give new Players some Options to actually Learn PvP and Participate in PvP without just constantly being Smashed down by older Players and never getting any Foot in the Door of the Game.

I really Hope this System will be Increased and Supported Further.

Greetz.

Suggestion...

To prevent these missions becoming feeding ground for the farmers...

Remove all rewards for players in the battles who do not have the mission and stop rewarding those who have already reached the damage threshhold just not turned in the mission yet

Why the heck can any silly BASIC CUTTER take part in PATROL events???
Can they earn PvP MARKS with that (never tried yet) - without risking anything?

Ofc they can. But they can only join when the battle started between player and AI. If the battle started as a player vs player they cant

FUN PVP FOR EVERYONE in DLC NASSAU PATROL IN YOUR OP DLC SHIP, omg very very fun, keep giving us the fun !!!

Feels great getting ganked 2 vs 10 DLC ships( yes, ten morons from different nation who does not have balls to make even a bit fair fight, 6 spanish + 4 russian)

So this FUN is ENOUGH for me, ............ the patrol zones ( you can fill in the blanks with your imagination,  may be it is love, may be it is peace, who f... knows ?)

aside from DLC shits, thx for not adjusting the GANKING CANCER in the zones, also ....

Maybe make battles 1v1 or equal BR vs equal BR.

Since it’s limit to three ships I would limit it to 6vs6 fights.  The other thing could be any missions taken in the zone is a FFA fight anything go but I would still limit it to something around 12 players tops.

A long time ago, I left pvp because of the ganking, I now have another toon on pvp and I notice that nothing has improved, until such time as those who participate in such boring antics stop, new players won't join, regardless of the trite attempts at making it more interesting. I don't know the solution to the gankers, but what I would like to see is maybe a small line of code inserted into the game that would neutralise damage when its 3+ players upwards picking on 1 player.

In fact, after some use, these patrol areas became no fun areas. Dedicated to ganking organized clans vs those who try do proceed as above written, and to Le Broken Shamec/Hercs for shallow water patrol.

Well tried, but fail.
