Little things you'd like to see

Recommended Posts

1. Rename the "3'rd rate" ...lets say HMS Dragon or something.

2. Rename the "Frigate" Cherubim.

Whats keeping you?!? It cant be that hard of task programming. I dont mind the cutter, the brig or the "Snow". Its not that important. But now that there are other frigates and 3'rd rates it's very confusing in the heat of battle.

I absolutely agree. There is not reason why ships, which are only a small distance away, when the ATTACK happens,

should not be able to join and help their allies.

Another thing I would like to suggest: FREE PORTS should ONLY be allowed for TRADER VESSELS.

That would stop that lurking in and hopping in and out of such ports.

One little thing that I would love to see is the ability to carry cargo in fleet ships that would work as real convoys. Its just doesnt make any sense that it´s not currently possible.

Yes please, and it would be nice to see NPC treasure fleets. How cool would it be to see OW fleets of 5 LGVs, 2 Indiamans escorted by some warships? I'd love trying to capture these with my national brohauns rather than doing missions all the time. Devs would just need to make sure the loot is good and the ships are full.

I'm really looking forward to a new, lovely map that's worthy of the period. I like the really nice script/font for the Region names.

Once the GUI and map are as gorgeous as the combat graphics, this is going to be the best looking game ever.

Custom bells.

Pennants you can earn and customize.

Mark your ports on the map.

A dot for your ship on the map. I would take off lat long and make the dot larger or smaller based on conditions. Night and stormy, big area. Clear calm night, very accurate.

add weights of good to the trader tool so you can work out how much you can carry or how many trips,

Currently trading missions still allowing for goods you cannot carry i.e. danish beer to Gustavia but the weight required well above indiaman, will test a partial delivery to see if it works

Now more than ever Trading Deliveries between your own outposts and the Capitol.

Not only freetowns

Why should NAVAL ACTION give anyone unrealistic, unhistorical advantages ?

Why does NAVAL ACTION work with totally unrealistic and unhistorical advantages or perks?
They ruin any feeling of reality and equal chances for non-PIRATE players, and give PIRATES advantages, which the real pirates never had.

Why should PIRATES have an unreal bonus like their SPEED PERK?
If PIRATES want to sail faster than NATIONS ships, they should use fast, agile ships, like LYNX or PRIVATEER - like they did in real life.

But if they use frigates, why should their frigates be faster than any high-tech NATION's ships, like Great Britain's?
(Oh, and of course, the NATIONs perk "PIRATE HUNTER" should also be dropped !
Why should the NATIONS be able to load faster, because they are fighting PIRATES? Makes no sense at all.).

As it is now, PIRATES come sailing right in front of a NATION's capital with a small fleet of ENDYMIONs or INDIFATGABLES,

since both types are FAST, AND CARRY HUGE GUNS (42pd Carronades - on frigates!).
Since these ships are available, PIRATES can approach almost EVERY other ship, and since no-one can run from them,

due to their SPEED PERK, they don't need cannons - they come with 42pd Carronades, shoot up your crew, and you are done.
You will rarely find them sailing any other ships - the combi of speed AND huge carronades is perfect for them.

Does ANYone among the NA Devs truely believe, that PIRATES could have sailed right in front of PORT ROYAL

and plunder British ships, without getting caught in the act?

And here we come to another unrealistic setting: the immediate closing of battles.
If such a raid would have been tried by PIRATES, the British ships nearby would have come to help, and the PIRATES would have had to run,

or they would have got sunk, or caught and hung. THAT was Pirates' reality - unromanticised!

It must have been real HARD to survive as a Pirate.

As it is now in NAVAL ACTION, PIRATES are now just like any other NATION, plus these advantages.
This has NOTHING to do with Pirate Life. Why have just another NATION, called PIRATES - why not give them a realistic situation?

Why not have PIRATES who really deserve the name, and get their business done under realistic conditions?

THEN you could be REALLY PROUD of being a PIRATE!

From my previous posts you must have seen: I am a BIG fan of NAVAL ACTION.

So, this is not meant to be a frustration-rant.

This is written with all my hope and best wishes, that NAVAL ACTION could and should become a REALLY great game!

In my previous post I wrote about unfair advantages for the PIRATES, which I'd like to see removed.

But there might also be advantages one could give them, which are more historically accurate.

For example, there might be corrupt Province Gouvernors, who deal with the PIRATES.

They buy their loot, and they allow them to hide in their harbour(s).

PIRATE ships approaching that port, would change flag into that NATION's flag.

They could not be attacked, NOR attack anyone after that!

After leaving port, after a certain distance, they would show PIRATE flag again -

and would now be possible to hunt, and could now defend or attack.

A NATION should be able to correct that corruption situation, once they know where it happens -

for example by bringing "Troops" to such ports from their Capital.

Once the necessary number of Troops arrived, that port is closed again for Pirates.

The Troops could be for a limited period of time.

After that, the PIRATES might try it again.

They would have to "bribe" the Governor. They would need to reach the harbour or the Regional Capital

with a special "bribing ship", with a certain amount of GOLD.

The number of "bribed regions" might have to be kept limited.

Just a thought - I guess you could make something of it?

I absolutely agree. There is not reason why ships, which are only a small distance away, when the ATTACK happens,

I think the two circels is a great thing. The smal circel prohibits the cheezy gamey defensive countertagging by being so small that ships that are irrelevant are not able to be tagged.

The big circle includes ships that are within sight of the battle when it happned are included but can chose to leave if they wish. You need to remember that the timescales are very different betwene the timeaccelerated ow and the battle instances. Allso there were no cell phones or radios back in the day. Taken together, that means a battle is something that should only include ships that are within sight of the battle when it starts.

Another thing I would like to suggest: FREE PORTS should ONLY be allowed for TRADER VESSELS.

That would stop that lurking in and hopping in and out of such ports.

Unfortunately that would mean that the chance of pvp would be drastically reduced. Fewer players would have warships available in in fewer parts of the map. NOT GOOD!!!

The big circle includes ships that are within sight of the battle...

No, it doesn't. I was well in sight and close enough to have joined in a real life battle - but wasn't allowed to enter in NA.

The two-circle system is not a bad idea, indeed. But the larger circle should be a lot larger.

Fewer players would have warships available in in fewer parts of the map.

That is not correct. Players can now have outposts in ANY port of an Allied NATION. More than enough choice.

I made a post the other day as a full suggestion about breaking up numbers to make a difference from 10000000 and 10 000 000. Also could we see a system that when we are destroying an outpost it tells you which one?

Currently there are safeguards but a small missed click can mean the difference from destroying your main hub and an unimportant place you used to trade once.

So instead of saying: Are you sure you want to destroy this outpost?

it should say something like: Are you sure you want to destroy your outpost at Nassau

Your last post might contradict your earlier one...

I am all for customized paint jobs, even if there would be a pre-selected choice of colours only;

to avoid "pink ships with torquoise decorations".

Why should all captains of Nations be commissioned Post squadrons ? Why should all captains of Nations actually be commissioned a station at the helm of a first rate !?

By God sir, You shall serve aboard a sloop-of-war until you have proven yourself worthy of a commission on a warship.

With the new Delivery Missions, I'd like there to be an option to add Player-Constructed Delivery Missions.  I want to be able to create a delivery contract to deliver, say 175 Grand Pianos, from somewhere in Cuba to one of my outposts in the south.

It costs me gold but saves me time, and another player can take advantage of it for the gold.  The game could set limits on what I can charge for the contract, based upon distance sailed and value of the item(s).  So when you go to Delivery Orders, you would be able to choose either Player Deliveries or Admiralty Deliveries.

I'd like to be able to buy ships for my fleet in a port that I don't have an outpost at.  Currently, without selling the main ship or creating an outpost we can't purchase new ships.
