Alternative to victory marks for 1st nation

Recommended Posts

Newest patch introduced some controversial changes to VIctory Marks. I propose to analyze why it was introduced, and suggest a better solution.

Problems we had with an old system:

  • RvR was not meaningful after some time and as such it didn't generate content
  • large nations stayed large, as coalitions couldn't form against them, or were unsuccesful
  • even if nation tried to do RvR, enemy often denied them a fight by giving up ports

Issues of a system introduced  by patch:

  • large nations will become undefeatable once noone but them has 1st rates
  • only large nations will be promoted, which means that either everyone will have alt in Sweden, or everyone will move to largest nations
  • small nations will start to loose players, as they will be denied access to 1st rates and a lot of content (eg. epic events)

New system should archieve:

  • promote RvR for all nations, regardless of their size
  • avoid abuses

Proposed solution:

Nations could have karma based on activity of a given nation, which would give them victory marks, regardless of their size and based on their activity. Example below:

  • In every nation every week you get 1 Victory Mark for every 20 Karma a nation received. Used Karma would be substracted from nation's pool
  • You loose Karma for:
    • not showing in PB -3 for 3 weeks
    • abandoning a port -3 for 3 weeks
  • You gain Karma for:
    • +2 - fighting in PB where at least 500 BR sank on any side
    • +2 - fighting in Hostility mission where at least 500 BR sank on any side
    • +1 - raising hostility on a port (which was owned by nation during hostility generation)
    • +1 - capturing a port (which was owned by nation during hostility generation)
    • +X - controlling a key location

This way nations that give content to other nations would be promoted. Port swapping would be avoided by requrement of a BR loss. Small nations could still gain Karma, just over the larger period of time.

Example:

1. Nation A is under attack. It doesn't defend, denying enemy a fight. They loose 18 Karma for giving up. For 3 weeks they have -18 Karma. After 3 weeks, if their Karma is below 0, it gets +18 points, until it reaches 0. In this case, nation goes to 0 again.

2. Nation B is under attack. They defend, but loose 2 ports. They get 4 Karma for fighting in 2 battles. They unsuccessfully make one counter-attack, and get additional +1 for hostility generation and +2 for fighting in a PB. By end of the week they have 7 Karma. Since it's not enough to get marks, their Karma goes to the next week

3. Nation C is attacking 2 ports and they capture them with a fight. They get +8 Karma -> 2* ( 2 for battle, 1 for hostility, 1 for capturing ). Since they don't have enough Karma, it moves to the next week.

For this system to work, every nation should get access to some 1st rates regardless of Victory Marks - eg. to Victory ship. All others could be for Victory Marks.

Participants could also get some additional Karma for participating, giving them bonus for activity.

The victory marks for participating in the PB are a good option. There are many PBs where you do not need 1. rates. For example, welcome to the Bahamas. Your system of karma makes the zerg even more powerful.

p.s.

Killing people and capturing cities can improve karma?

Right now crushing nations and capturing cities wins you VM. With Karma you get VM not only for capturing cities (which gives you little karma), but also just for participating in battles. Victorious side gets only a little more karma than the defending side. You don't need to kill people, you only need someone to die in PB (it can be someone from your side). This part is only to avoid exploits.

I don't understand why you think it would empower zerg nations. Can you explain?

Btw, the main advantage of this Karma system is that you can punish nations for giving up without a fight. If not for this system, it could be enough to give some VM's to participants of a battle (regardless whether victorious or lost) when someone sank within this battle.

With marks for participants though permits should cost more than just 1 mark, as you shouldn't get a 1st rate for every battle you participated in. Also, some 1st rates should be accessible without VM's.

... no one, should get a reward if he not participate ... so get rid of the nations ... just for the flag, only players who participiate at raising hostility or portbattle should be rewarded nobody else. So if Clan a has 30 Member but only 10 participate and 3 other clans join from same nation fill up hostility or port battle only the active Player should be rewarded. Instantly! and not once per week. All  players succesfull attack or defend a port get a vic mark after battle. all players rising hostilit gain von victory mark after 100% is reached. Its very simply and i think more ppl would take part in rvr. you dint just get a reward for being member of the most holding port nation without doing anything for it.

Other point is no alt farmings victory marks becouse u have to be in battle.

And of course no victory reward for fighting npc ports.

Unless you are going to start introducing real nations (access to unique sets of ships to build, able to capture foreign ships, among other mechanics), then do away them them altogether. There is functionally no difference between nations other than this broken RvR system. Let clans become the nations and add a real and meaningful diplomacy system.
