The Lost Vikings

As many in Global Chat noticed last night, there is some action happening down in the normally quiet waters around Cumana between the Danes and the Dutch. Your valiant Dutch nationals first noticed these lost Vikings on Saturday night (CST) as two Captains in an Endymion and a Bellona were attempting to capture three Dutch Indiaman at the port of Macanao. After a long chase, the Bellona was captured though the Endymion evaded capture and escaped back to a camp near Nuevo Barcelona.

I received news on Sunday morning (CST) that the dastardly Danes had sunk/captured two more ships including a first rate while I slept and I noticed that hostilities around Nuevo Barcelona were up to about 25%. Patrols throughout the day caught no sign of the foreign invaders, though later that night we ran into them again.

To calm the hostilities around Nuevo Barcelona, Dutch Admiralty engaged a fleet of Captains to secure the port. As the final Captains were travelling to the area, they ran alongside a Danish L'Hermoine and "escorted" it back to its camp while not attacking. During this escort, a Dutch Captain that had been presumed lost at sea appeared in a small unrated vessel and attacked the Hermoine even though the three first rates surrounding it had chosen honor instead of the easy prize. A signal flare went up at some point, and the Danish Captains were roused.

A small patrol consisting of a Bucentaure, a L'Hermoine, and an Indefatigable left the Port of Nuevo Barcelona shortly thereafter and our lost at sea Captain engaged. Seeing the strength of the Danish ships, we determined that this was not a "Lost" group of Vikings, but an invasion fleet. A string of battles followed with losses for each side. As far as this Captain knows, the Danes have lost around 12 ships including the Bucentaure and L'Hermoine though the Dutch had a Santisima Trinidad captured. The Captain escaped and reports that around 7 Danes commandeered ships from the Port of Nuevo Barcelona and loaded them with conscripted Mercenaries trying to capture a prize and begin rebuilding their fleet. That rebuilding began with the capture of the Santisima.

Waking up this morning the port of Nuevo Barcelona is under siege and we expect it to fall into Danish hands later this evening. 

The Dutch Nation will continue to defend the territory it claims and put an end to the Viking nuisance.

Our Danish friends continue their rather awkward attempts at immigration to the Dutch nation. All they need to do is apply to our Foreign Alien Office in Willemstad and we will provide you with the necessary documents as well as a handy time zone chart which will assist you in setting your watches and avoid those nasty mistimed port battles set exactly at server maintenance.

On the immigration forms please don’t forget to note the Bellona you took off one of our captains. This fact could hurt your approval chances but lying on your application is even worse. We will take in to account your generous sacrifice of a Victory and Wasa.

And to the poor American captain who apparently lost his way in our waters last night, here’s a tip: north (that’s your home) is up on your map, south is down.
