Which nation to join on Euro?

I play global where currently player population is getting smaller and smaller. (No, it has nothing to do with night flips.) Anyway, until at least the time comes that this game recovers, I'd like to give the Euro server a try as well. I'd love to hear Euro players descriptions of your nations, their overall character and play style, big rivalries, clans, help for newbs, sharing of crafting and duties, organization, alliances, etc.

I am based on US west coast but play at varied hours of the day so would be around in Euro mornings and evenings. Ping seems to not be a problem. I enjoy all aspects of this game but try to keep crafting and trading to a minimum -- not because actually doing it is a grind -- I don't mind the sailing and gathering -- but because the actual interface to do it is clunky and takes too much non game effort. I don't have a lot of PVP experience but want to gain more. I like it. I prefer to sail with a few friends rather than solo hunting. I will fight a port battle but haven't seen much of a point lately. Basically, I like the game and have my fingers crossed that we can sail through these doldrums. I'm a level 50 crafter and on the Euro server would be at the rank below Rear Admiral. I'm not the sort that gloats or "roleplays" being a dick about victories nor do I point fingers at who destroyed the game and server. On Global I am Dutch so am used to our socialist democracy.

Please, if possible, refrain from trash talking others and making accusations. I think there are many players in my position on global willing to give Euro a try and if this thread just fills with salt, it won't help balance your server's pop one bit.

Thanks.

Danes, Brits and Swedes have best position so you can cover most parts of the map with outposts.

Dont join Spain everyone who was there said its terrible because people hate each other.

Dutch, US and French are pretty low pop and at the edge of the map, I wouldnt join there. Also a lot of people in France have porblems with English or refuse to speak English.

Pirates are decent but they dont have much ports atm and a lot of people go infront of MT for PvP so its kinda hard.

That said havent played for 2 weeks but I suppose not much has changed about it.

As you don't appear to put too high a priority on RvR I'd say you would be perfectly fine joining just about any nation on Euro. You could probably drop a pin randomly on the map and see where it falls.

I am sure you would find good friends in Spain. RvR there could be difficult, but there is great potential for every other playstyle.

The US is on the rise. They have a safe corner and some active groups from what I know, and new players and clans who have joined, so you won't feel like the only new guy.

France gets you close to the PvP-action and fruitful hunting grounds in the Lesser Antilles. There's a language barrier, but you shouldn't have a problem to find a group who also speaks English. Ask King of Crowns how he likes it, as he also just came over from Global, though he might be more of a solo player than how you describe yourself. For solo hunters at least, France offers a lot of opportunities, especially when it comes to catching fat and overconfident Scandinavian traders.

Dutch are quite possibly one of the most interesting choices. Although they suffer a bit from long distances within their core territories, they have shown great courage and spirit in RvR lately.

With Brits you the variety is great as the player numbers are great. You will surely find a group that suits you. And there can be safety in numbers.

Join Swedes if you like tight organisation, RvR, Group-PvP, and want the safety of numerical superiority.

In Danmark we are a small nation, but with big ambitions and achievements. Diversity is a key word, and my clan, RDNN has players from all over the world and all continents. We have developed good cooperation in spite of many different languages and cultures coming together. By having a common national Teamspeak and working together towards common goals.

My recommendation to you would maybe be USA or Dutch, but you would of course be very welcome to join us in Danmark-Norge and for instance RDNN:

Near Roseau.

Despite what is often said, french community is a nice one that is curious and happy to welcome new captain specially thoses who may break this nation focus language. We already welcome Wo clan with the best we can to make them confortable even if they lost their ship in the screen today.
Edr will help you and your teamate to setu your eco and will craft you ships at start if you need it. We are not a society that wnt to recruit english player but we will not let you fall and support you the best way we can.

We can provide you free channels on TS for you and your clan and help you in ressources and doublons. We have been away from fight for a long time. a time needed to setup a new community that is less focusing on itself and more open to new players.

We would be happy to welcome vets or even new players to renforce our english speaking squadrons and make french a more easy area to welcome new players.

Choosing french is not choosing an easy nation but is finding somewhere where you will be valuable for who you are as a player, not as part on a zerg.

See you soon ;-à)

If you believe in a salt free zone with PvP on a daily basis and occasional RvR, a winning mentality but not a win at all costs, then the EU Dutch is welcoming to fine captains.

Be warned though a sense of humour is essential.

Look me up or any of my clan mates if you need any help settling in sir.

Danes & Brits are nice nations -- join Brits if u want bigger player number (they are central so expect fights every evening without sailing out too far) or Danes if you want to collect resources quickly (outposts close to capital possible) and quick raid runs (swedes are very near ...); these are the two nations I sailed for now ...

According to next upgrades, clans will become an important role in NA (war between clans within the same faction to get/own/hold ports).

The larger will be the clan the more potential action & wealth, so make a wise choice before joining a clan.

but in term of faction choice, (knowing that activity will rise again after summer truce), if you look for the most "organized group", then my recommandation is:

1 - Sweeds

2 - Danes

3 - Brits

4 - Dutch

5 - USA

6 - French

7 - Spanish

8 - Pirates

Consider the fact that admin wants to make Swedish and Danish nations hardcore.

All ports will be split into capturable and non-capturable - the amount of ports will represent gameplay difficulty on these original difficulty levels

  • Spain easy
  • Britain easy
  • USA easy
  • France medium
  • Netherlands medium
  • Pirates hard
  • Denmark hard (only 3 uncapturable ports)
  • Sweden very very very hard (only 1 uncapturable port)

indeed !
