Is it possible to instance... ?

... a full region ?

Asking if technically it is possible.

Multiple instances of a entire region to accommodate several maximum numbers of entities in real time environments.

We have no plans to change the tech in this game to incorporate other types of world slicing

I mean any region, with the maximum entities in play AI and PChar ( groups stay together) and once it hits the top it creates another copy for more slots, and so on.

If it is possible considering how NA is built and considering the upgrade to 5.

Possible, but the more players, the more problems we will get. Battle instance has limited size (it only renders terrain and land to certain point, then it's just a sea). Port Battles 25v25 cause a huge lag and FPS drop.

I  think what duke is talking about is, say there are 50 people in a group, they tag another group of 50. 2 battles are created 25v25 in the same place, that perhaps can be tied together somehow to compensate for the limitations of only being able to hold a single group of 50 in a single instance.

Something like this could allow a theoretically unlimited amount of players to be apart of any single battle/pb, while not all being in the same 25v25 instance

No, although I may be wrong, but I think he is asking if it is possible to instead of battle instances, have battles on the open world, have regions be the instance. That would be nice.

Correct. Regions are instanced and replicated as needed.

OK so regions would be a permanent battle instance, 99% of the game happens.

Open waters (everywhere that's not a region) is basically for fast travel around the map.

HOLY FUDGING BALLS. This absolutely needs to happen. EVERYTHING that OW touches TAINTS the saving grace of this game which is the battle instance.

PVP-we're still trying to figure out how to stop revenge fleets, balance OW speeds for different ships, figure out the best tagging solutions.

RVR- Battle screen abuse, screening abuse,  invisibility and timers.

Really,  if we could just make the OW a means to travel, and have everything else in regional battle instances would be amazing and would immediately resolve most of the game mechanic issues NA has currently and other features that would require more dealing with the BS that is OW would fall into place like clockwork.

The only thing is, devs would absolutely have to figure out how to expand the instance to more than 50 max. 

But just imagine for a second....you undock from your capital, in front of you you see dozens of BEAUTIFUL looking traders, fleets of patrol frigates, flags waving, no arcadey immersion breaking speeds......Then off in the horizon you see white sails closing in.... OUT OF NO WHERE A PIRATE SHIP COMES AND FIRESHIPS THE CRAP OUT OF A GROUP OF TRADERS. EVERYONE MANUAL SAILS THE IN THE OTHER DIRECTION,  A SMALL PATROL GROUP GETS WIND OF THE CHAOS AND RUSHES TO FACE THE PIRATES. 

Slowly but surely the two forces meet, you and your tiny little trade cutter have made it far away enough to be out of the danger, but in the far distance behind you, you see faint flashes of light, and the delayed roar of cannon fire. In front of you, the flickering light of the town over, you rig up those dank side sails the french ship had in master and commander and make for the town.

Imagine how blown a new player would be? How epic port battles would be.RAIDING! 

 

Devs.............please.

maybe with unity 5. I think that admin said at some point that it wouldnt be technical not possible.. Like a game without instances.

If only.

Would be fun to try it out in a bit of a roleplaying manner - joining a battle instance with 25 players a side - maybe even an outlaw instance - in a variety of traders, frigates, sloops, maybe a SOL too, and then sail around pretend-trading, patrolling, docking e.t.c.

All we need is a battle instance that is open for several hours, not much else really.

At present, is there a cut-off distance inside the battle instance where it stops drawing land masses? If not, you could be, say, 50 players sailing around the Antilles only.

So you want to sail huge distances in battlespeed? chase some ship you see on the horizon for hours etc.?

And then there are other battles. You see a trader on the horizon after sailing 5 hours between mortimer town and la mona. He sees you too because for some reason he is not afk. Then the truely stunning chase begins. After 2 more hours you have him. you open his heck to start graping, he catches fire and explodes. What a stunning 7 hour playtime you hqd there :P

I imagined this too quite some time ago. You just start from scratch again and face different problems.
