Make RVR more interesting Maybe

Recommended Posts

1) Hostility needs to take time to build and lower...  Like 20% a day either way Max. I would say you also have to raise and lower it in the ships types NEEDED to attack the Region... None of this using Line ships to set Hostility in the Shallows ect...

2) More then a Single Battle to Decide the Region...  for Global Server I would say 3 spread across the day With 1 of them being a PB the other 2 Open water marked on Map like Wrecks are..... Winner of 2 take sit... EU maybe 2 battles in different parts of the Region . Make one open water one PB....

3) Make ALL  Region Controls Battles Open from 2 hours prior till they end... If a Ship enters but then doesn't move or take damage 15 min into battle it gets booted and someone else can join... Same if someone just drops out for real world reasons before engaging the retreat and leave a Reinforcement can come in. Sure it makes the Screening a LOT harder.. but it also might make the Battles for control actually meaningful and interesting...

1) That would take for ever to flip a port as they can to easly run it down.   Though if they did raids like the old flag system with a small team battle than maybe it can give 20% agro to the winner.

2) That is why it's a big battle and takes a day before it happens.  The small battles are your OW PvP.  If you win them you win the big fight.

3) Actaully like this as it is a better way to do screening.  Make it so you get no battle poiunts until the actual time the port battle starts, but you can enter 2 hours before to work as a screen or advance party.    In real life the screening fleets slowed down or stopped a fleet from taking a port.  IF the fleet was big enough they should been able to just push through and still take the port.  You don't want the other team to get the better position than you need to be there early.  Though with the limited window on EU you will prob never see this as folks don't want to be in a battle for 3-4 hours long.  A epic as it would be though.

1. Yes, it needs to take longer. Too easy to hostility bomb the night prior, and flip the port the next day before most people even get off work and realize the area was even contested.

2. Yes, a single 25v25 is too limited for deciding an entire region. Port flips should be more of a drawn out, multiple battle event, and less of a gimmick.

3. Yes x100 The only requirement should be change the battlegroup mechanic from similar BRs to similar group size, since its unlikely for a nation to field a similarly composed screening fleet, when screenings is more about attrition than outright destroying the enemy (although that could also be a choice :)

One thing to add, a way for attackers to wear the defenders down siege style. Perhaps make each PB 3 consecutive battles, the first 2 allowing any ship size smaller than port req. So for the first battle the attackers can choose to bring a fleet of mortar brigs and 5th rates to destroy forts and weaken the active fleet there. The 2nd battle can be just a small skirmish between whatever ships,, same kind of idea. The 3rd is the grand finale with whoever winning this wins the PB.

Each of these battles takes place the day after each other, at the same time the PB was set for and voila, RVR isn't shit anymore. Entire nations can be involved, less room for abuse, and more options for everyone.

Conflict Zones, like in ED.

Plus region stability like in ED - smuggling drops it, legal trade raises it, presence of enemy shipping, amount trade passing through, demanded goods, overall strength of region - outposts and stationed ships, etc etc etc.

There's a lot of venues to approach RvR other than only the "teleport to port, grab the fleet and fight".

So so reductive for such a expansive game set in this history age :)

This games RVR and its failure is starting to become a hot topic again and more importantly players are waking up to one simple fact, NA's RVR mechanic is flawed and driving players and the devs crazy trying to make it work.

I posted this in another rvr thread so ill post it here too.

the most crippling aspect of this games mmo mechanic is its RVR. If it does not change then this game will die just like pirates of the burning sea , not long after its released. the RVR is also a headache the devs cannot figure out how to balance.

the solution is simple. go to an EVE Online mechanic where you have a high sec with the npc nations that are kind of starter or for player rebuilding, but most important is RVR is between player made nations on 90% of the map, players duke it out for their own nations. Player clans become their own nations independant of npc nations and strike it out on their own (if they choose) in the lawless open world where 90% of ports are up for grabs.  that means players take over the ports and they are theirs not some npc country. such kind of rvr encourages more player involvement and ownership of RVR.

such a mechanic also opens up vast potential for further development in game, such as clans being able to build up ports for specific purposes, players building their own port empires , holding them together, challenging other player empires etc.

one of the things that made eve online so popular with players for 10 years and going strong is that players take and own the systems. the back and forth between players is so dramatic a book was written about it. naval action can have that kind of player creativity and action too but will never have it so long as all players are forced to play for npc countries.

the current npc country RVR is a failed mechanic that the devs cant figure out how to balance, its crippling the games development. why the devs wont even try a player ownership of ports style RVR is either because they cant due to coding or they have it all figured out and just plan to make the game great at launch, or they are just new to MMO's and have no idea how flawed their RVR is for long term play.

I like this direction, but its a massive step. Devs need to find a way to make what we currently have work.

The biggest problem IMO with what we have is the limitations of battles being at max 25v25 compared to EVE's hundreds in a system. How can we make a 25v25 battle limitations scale up to the amount of people who want to be involved?

The only solution I see is multiple battle PBs and how this could work is once a PB is set, everyone on each nation gets a *Call to arms* message which they can either accept or deny.

For every 25 people accept, that's another day the PB goes for.

We could have the EXACT SAME SYSTEM as we do now, only instead of 1 port battle to decide it all, the points for each battle are tallied up, and the side with the most points win the PB.

This could be so easily implemented and would go SOOOO far to improving RVR for everybody.

plz devs

To fill even a 25v25 you need players... players that are willing to do it and put their earnings on the line.

Also we need a revolving world, not three separate ones.

Solo, Group and Open in ED all work towards one single universe. The actions of all affect the common universe.

On #3 nothing is needed, current OW screening/skirmishing has the elasticity it needs to provide battles before the actual PB.

It doesn't. A full fleet of connies isn't able to to make the +/-1.5x BR to be able to tag a full fleet of 1st rates.

so the BR is working again? It wasn't last PB I was at... And actually a full fleet of Connies shouldn't be able to bring a fleet of 1st rates into battle .. The Frigates and 3rd rate screen would intercept them in a real world.. But then in a real world you would have 2 COnnies at most show up and 1 or 2 1st rates a couple 2nd rates and the rest 3rd rates of various sizes.. Aga-Bellona
