If I'm not mistaken there were some of old Age of Sail 2 SGS friends in potbs beta, Charles Caldwell and Llewellyn Jones. Wish they were in Naval Action aswell.

Yes, such a great group of people, I do think of them often and wonder how many of them will find this as we have.

Well I am well and truly here and have already preordered. I've also put in motion the rebuilding of the SeaLords website.

A call to arms has gone out to all the old SeaLords and I know many of the old members have preordered as well.... its going to be good!

The SGS will always hold a very special place in my heart. The Officers and crews were the pinnacle of professionalism and virtue, and were a credit to PotBS and gaming in general. I would still deem it a great honour to sail alongside those old friends again.

Had a great weekend sailing with a lot of my old CRIMSON BLADE Mates from PotBS. It was good to see Crimson Blade members with such a strong presence on-line sailing this weekend.

We are glad to have new members join our happy clan. TeamSpeak use is a must to sail with us. Feel free to contact myself our only of the following Admirals: Leviathan, Chilly Willy, Nemesis, Shark or Gold Skull.

Hey guys.  I'm a long time World of Tanks player and I've always been associated with a clan. I've seen signatures on some profiles that suggests that they are a part of this game too.  My question is:  How many clans are there right now and what sort of benefits do you get by playing them? I ask this because without the ability to platoon (or squadron) what do you see as the advantage(s)?

Your post did spark a question for me. I really do wonder what benefit clans will have have over the solo player if any.

I know the developers have mentioned that we can join a national navy such as British or US. By doing so you have a certain quota to fullfill or orders to execute to help the cause so to speak. I wonder how many of these tasks will be done randomly with other members of the same nation instead of fighting with your specific clan only. For example, you may be called to intercept an opposing nations fleet -- the question is will you be able to group with your clan or will you be thrust in with a mixed group of other nationals to complete it?

So many things we don't know yet.

This is a great statement!!

Why does there need to be clans in a game that's gonna have Nations??

My observation of clans in games is that they're all about power and monopolistic control of large parts of the game. Theyre all about having the biggest and the most. All you Jack Aubrey's out there are gonna have a tough time being the single frigate on a mission when you're getting swarmed by vics and santis cause you've sailed into an area of the sandbox that's "owned" by such and such clan. Overall my experience with clans in games has been negative.

I do not think that Nelson would've had his success at Trafalgar with clans within the Royal Navy. Imagine his fleet is composed of largely two or threes clans and the largest clan decides to hang back so the other clans get chopped up in the battle giving the large clan a window to take control of moar areas from their now weakened rival clans.

They will game the system to get the goodies and keep the individual down.

dont see it as clan see it as an Squadron or flotilla and our open world in the end will be far to big that a single clan can controll large parts of it.

and if an ,,clan,, has more than 200 activ players you can call them basicly a new player driven nation.

But who is their allegiance going to be too?? Their clan or their Nation??? Eve and WOT both have clans with alliances controlling large parts (most profitable sections) of their maps...

I'm not against squadrons (platoons) getting together to accomplish missions but I think it should be limited... say 5-6 ships. Like the US Navys battles against the Barbary pirates. But.... they should be performing National missions, not owning or controlling areas for themselves. That would be more like the feudal system of the middle ages with lords controlling lands and owing allegiance to their king... until they decide to overthrow him... Is that what people are wanting??? A feudal system?? Or are you a Captain in service to your Country performing missions in the National interests??

The large fleet actions would be when wars are declared between two Nations led by the highest ranked player on each side. But everyone fighting for their Nation. What if clan members are on both sides??? Serious trickery and backstabbing could occur...

Another thing I'd like to see would be teamspeak channels set up for each Nation where all the sailors from that Nation could hang out and talk joke and such with subrooms on that channel for the fleet actions and squadron actions and platooning and such.

the allready existing NA groups have a Teamspeak for themself allready no need for it.

and you seem very biased from other games.

we have no idea what the devs will come up in the end no need to spread hate speches agains people forming themself together.

if people are not allowed to band themself together and patroling the boarders to enemy waters or escorting the nations convoys i see no reason to even bother playing NA anymore.

acording to your few post you are sugesting the removal of basic social features of any other game.

again you are going way over the top just because there will be a group of 20 people controlling the region around Havana wont mean thay they give a dame about what their nations order them they are effectivly saveing the Crowns intresst of protecting the resources of the Collonies against the enemy.

people on the forum these days should stop being biased to expecting the worstcase-scenario.

old testers and Society leaders of diffrent ingame nations have allready come together as the A.U.S.L. to ensure the future enjoyment for the Players regardless of what nation they are serving and save guarding the forums.

no need to worry the game wont end up like this:

Maybe YOU didn't understand my post.

First of all, as YOU said, clans will have their own channel. Not EVERYONE will be in a clan. MY request for common National channels ingame or on teamspeak was so that EVERYONE could enjoy the social aspect of the game more, be it bantering, setting up platoons/squadrons/teams for and during missions, training, teaching, and whatever else happens with voice comms in game. This actually increases the "basic social features" for EVERYONE not just the fortunate few in clans, such as YOURSELF.

Secondly, I never said people shouldn't/couldn't band together for patrolling or escorting. I was for that feature and I said as much. I said it should be limited. Large fleet actions should be led by the most experienced Captain/Admiral for that nation... not the biggest clan.

And while you accuse me of being "biased" and spreading hate speech without even knowing a single thing about me. All I can say is shame on you sir... All I've done is call some questions up on how past history has shown clans to truly be in other games to ensure that history does not repeat itself in this game. You can brush it off with simple statements and cartoons all you want but the fact is that clans are made so its members have an advantage in the game. Its what they do. Give me one example of when they have not done so...
