Artillerymen too resilient

Nit-pick time: It seems like artillery crews are way too hardy in melee. More than once, I've charged them with an infantry unit twice or three times their size, and the artillerists stand their ground and rack up kills. I think both times in my most recent battle they were either in woods or a house fortification, so I imagine that's why they are getting such a bonus, but come on, aren't they basically unarmed? They're outnumbered by veteran infantryman killers with bayonet-tipped rifles.

One unit inflicted heavy melee casualties on my infantry unit, routed, then walked away with most of their guns and men while my men stood there and watched because I wasn't micro-managing them. Has anyone else had this happen? Perhaps this should be tweaked a bit?
