I'll take a guy who goes out every day in a kayak looking for a fight over all of these other do-nothings who park their 1st rates outside of their capitals and never actually use them or do anything risky what-so-ever.

Now that sounds like NPG

Speak for yourself. I have been in more first rate fights than you have.

If you have been in 1 you have been in more than me in my whole time in this game.  Fact is I have never bothered to sail anything bigger than a Bucentaur and that was once against the NPCs and then I broke it up for the parts.   You make it sound like if someone doesn't sail a 1st rate they aint shit.   Well I hate to break it to you, but some of us dont have to overcompensate for other inadequacies.

I was surprised to see Brits flip another US port and Pirates looked like they might have counter-ground some US contention against another coastal port.

You Pirate and Brit ninnies ever gonna fight each other or you just going around the map until you run out of excuses?

It's like you had one bashup on the weekend and had to go lie down for a week to recover from it.

It s not the frenchies gonna tell others who they have to fight against...

You're probably right, which really says a lot about how useless first rates really are.

The first rate fights I've been in mostly consisted of 4th and 5th rates catching a 1st rate on the high seas and stealing it.

I would bet more 1st rates have been stolen in this game than have ever been sunk. They're more like a trophy than a practical fighting ship.

1st rates can be effective in 1st rate port battles (provided that the captain sailing it knows how to effectively use it).

1st rates can also be effective for grinding hostility to generate port battles, provided that they have smaller ships (frigates and such) as an escort for protection.

And I fully agree that many 1st rates are "stolen" because the captains sailing it uses it stupidly (sailing solo on PVE missions), sailing solo in general, using it for fishing, etc.

It's an attitude problem where too many people are afraid to lose their stuff. It's a vicious circle. They go into battle thinking they're gonna lose, they lose and get demoralized and even more afraid.

You don't get it, do you? That's why eco and loss is so great.

"It gives meaning to fighting"

"RvR wouldn't mean a thing without it"

"It adds depth"

"Attitude problem?! We should just press on disregarding player psychology and rely on dogged faith alone. Anything is possible if you just believe"

"Pfft... Get outta here! There are thousands of players willing to be cannon fodder to power PVEers who can grind out and loot drop the best gear"

I feel sorry for you for never experiencing an epic 25v25 first rate battle they are a real pleasure and awesome battle to hear all the canons go off and the tactics used.

Yes they are slow which requires more tactics than using fast ships.

but honestly why did people bring 4-5 rates to a 1st rate battle? That only hinders your nations performance.

I wouldnt say more tactics, just more patience in those tactics.   Everything is slow and deliberate, you have less room for error due to its lack of mobility, but seeing as you are often facing other slow and lumbering ships that room for error grows exponentially.    I dont think any one ship rating requires more skill to sail than any other.  I do think it takes a different mindset to sail different ships.  And I dont have that kind of patience to sail a slow 1st rate.

Whats funny is that the two groups going back and forth right now are not in the USA anymore. The USA seems kinda quiet right now. Its the rest of us using this thread the most.

Agree.  Most of the drama left until they log in with alts and stir the pot.
