I'd like to know why Caguairan wood can't be used for planks

It is so strong wood, like the Live Oak. It would be a nonsense. Strong wood behind lighter wood.

So Caguairan frames as well :)

The choice of wood for shipbuilding is basic to the game. Is there an official source for all the latest statistics on framing and planking that players can rely on to be complete and up to date?

I am getting different results from different sources. Different numbers, different qualities (is "Mast Thickness" a factor? Does planking still affect Ship Speed?). Like Longshot in the post above, I can't access the resource that barberouge quoted.

It would be helpful to include the date of last update and patch/version number of the game in the source... assuming there is one.

The shipbuilder chooses the frames wood and the planking wood. Fir and Oak are produced by player buildings  (Trader Tool 'P') and the other woods are available from NPCs (Trader Tool 'A') with contracts possible.

The system is revamped from the initial testbed iterations:

  • stats changed based on gameplay
  • stat specificities emphasized
  • crew resistances increased because the values are rounded
  • white oak becomes a rare wood
  • distribution changed based on gameplay
  • most often, 2 ports per supplying region
  • smuggler contracts disabled

The stats affected in shipbuilding are:

  • Structure HPs
  • Armor HPs
  • Thickness
  • Leaks resistance
  • Crew resistance
  • Fire spread resistance
  • Speed
  • Acceleration
  • Turn

Also the vessels lose thickness when damaged, depending on the frames wood category.

The woods are (per wood category)

  • Light
    • Fir
    • Bermuda Cedar (rare)
  • Medium
    • Mahogany
    • Oak
    • Sabicu
    • White Oak (rare)
  • Heavy
    • Teak (rare)
  • Very Heavy
    • Caguairan (rare, frames only)
    • Live Oak (rare, frames only)

Shipbuilding tooltips will be added at a later stage but until then here is a simulator for PvPers and crafters:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1swZ70gctKcZTHYrDJfqtyZf24vhByZt4F-3TphCYgN4/edit#gid=1055841935

To be able to change the inputs:

  • if you have a google account, select 'File' then 'Make a copy'
  • to use it with another program, select 'File' then 'Download as'

"

  • Heavy * Teak (rare)"  Q is this right? Teak is a heavy wood more so than White oak, Because I become faster with teak and slower with white oak. And why has some woods been remover if anything you should add some of the woods you left out. like the wood for the mast they often would go to south America (Brazil) and spend weeks to find a good tree for a log.. I I can find out the tree type if you want to add it to the updates.
